My name…? It’s… Vincent. Vincent Benton. Woah!

You got into a bad car accident and have been in a coma for the past 4 months.

When we took you off life support I was so scared you weren’t going to make it, but you’re awake! I’m so glad!

Jamie and I just talked for a good long time. Apparently I’ve made a dramatic recovery and only need to spend a couple more days in the hospital. My memories feel so hazy, though… I feel like I was dreaming for a long time. I felt like I was in some kind of anime. Probably because of all the ones I was watching before the accident. I had to fight my way through my anime life… but I wasn’t alone. There was some snarky dog and a teenage boy. I dunno, though. Part of me wishes I could remember, but I don’t know why I’m so focused on remembering a dream. The day before my release, Jamie had something important to tell me.

You can move in with me. I made it as a writer and you can actually narrate them. I showed the producers and director your demo and they want you to start as soon as possible.

…I… what?

You’re moving in with me! I mean, I already have all your stuff. Your landlord kicked you out of your old place, so you don’t have much of a choice.

Heh… hahahaha. Okay, sure.

“You’re gonna do great, Narrator-sama!” Just don’t screw it up.

My name… it’s Narrator. That’s what Tsungeal’s been calling me all along. I don’t buy any of this id and superego crap.

Why would we both be lying to you? Even superego has admitted to all of this.

You’re great at playing mind games, Nibey. And Tsungeal’s not the brightest kid, so I figure you’re confusing him again.

“Narrator-sama, please! You have to… where’d the light go?”

He made his choice, so the chance has gone.

Where do you think you’re going?

Episode 31: Was it really the truth?

Even if you win… I won’t be gone. I am a part of your mind. I will stay.

If all of this is true, then that makes sense. You’ll definitely be weaker, though.

Heh heh… I’m already as weak as I was. Urrrraaaahhh… I give up. You win, superego and ego.

“You’re really just gonna stop.”

I’ve reverted back to this form. I won’t be able to change into any demons anytime soon.Now, there is something that must be done before you return to your body.

Again with this coma nonsense. I need more time to find out if it’s true or not.

You don’t have much time. They’ve recently taken you off life support to see if you’ll make it on your own. If you don’t return soon then you’ll die and everything will fade away.

“That might be my fault… one of the few times you listened to me was when I thought it would be rude to use up hospital resources for something like this. You said it around your brother and friends quite a few times... sorry...”

...Yeah, this is all just too weird to me.

Normally I’d like to just let time go by, but you have to make the choice now. Through this light you won’t be part of this world any more. You’ll live and return to your real life. All you have to do is speak your name. The light will shine brightly and take you back to your life.

Episode 30: Clashing Polarities

What the…? This dark energy… it’s coming from all over the place.

“Narrator-sama, get back! What he said about me… it’s right. He’s changed my memories from the start so I’d think I’m just a high school boy. Back then he was just some orange blob, but I guess he has multiple forms.”

Well, what is he, then?

I am your id. You would only listen to me, so I gained a lot of power in this realm of your subconscious. I’ve sent all these demons out to get you!

If you’re part of me, then why would you want me dead?!

I said I'm your id. Your bestial instincts and pleasure seeking. You want to die. It’s the ultimate release from the pain of your brother gone and life in shambles.

“This is why Nibey and I have boy and girl parts. We’re ideals from opposing ends. We’re not supposed to identify as one single gender.”

…what, so you’re both like Ardhavani from hindu myth or something?

You’re taking this a bit too well, human.

I’m not convinced what you’ve said about me being in a coma is true. I’m also not entirely sure about all this id and superego talk. There are just too many things going on that I don’t know what to believe.

“Narrator-sama…”

But one thing I know is true. You’re the source of the demons. If I stop you, the demons won’t come after me anymore. Let’s end this, Nibey.

Episode 29: Truth Revealed

“Narrator-sama, we’re almost done! Just use one of your special attacks to finish this!”

If you defeat us it will only bring greater pain and sorrow onto you.

I don’t care about that! I just want all of you gone before you come and attack me first. If I have to withstand pain and sorrow, then I’ll just deal with it. SUNDERING LIGHT OF INFERNAL POWER!

“<coughing> wow, I think that was a bit too strong. Oh, they’ve been completely obliterated.”

Good riddance, too.

“Seriously, though, you blew a hole into the roof and stairs popped out.”

I’m pretty sure they were just blocking the stairs before. …hey, where’d Nibey go?

“I bet he went ahead of us. Let’s get a move on.”

Right.

“Wow, look at that big light! Oh, look, there’s Nibey!”

That is pretty intense. Hey, Nibey, you know random crap and won’t tell us why. Any idea what this light is?

This light is your way out of this world, Narrator.

“Ohh, is that where the truth is? We have to go out to another world?”

It is where the truth lies, but only Narrator can pass through there. As he is the only one of any of us who is a real person.

Uhh …wanna elaborate on that a little more? ‘Cause I feel like you could just be talking metaphors right now.

There is no metaphor. Think back on that car accident that you oh so miraculously walked away from without a scratch. You’ve said yourself that it was impossible for you to have not been hurt by that. That’s because in reality you were knocked unconscious. At this moment, the real you is laying in a hospital bed in a coma. You were on the verge of death until you began to absorb shadows. As for those shadows, they are the embodiment of the medicine being used to keep you alive. It’s why only you can absorb them to get stronger.

I… almost died? Wait, but if I’ve been absorbing shadows and there’s this light, then that means I should be strong enough to live, right? …If I’m a real person, what does that make you and Tsungeal?

I’m glad you decided to ask that. Tsungeal is the embodiment of your superego. Always trying to do the right thing and help people. He’s gotten stronger as you’ve believed in him and done more of what’s ‘right’. As for me… well, let me show you what I truly look like.

"Took you both long enough..."

Suited Masquerade?! How're you okay?! I saw you get gored to death by that demon.

"Something really seems off... I don't know what it is, but we can't trust him, Narrator-sama."

"The boy is right for once. He is beginning to fill his role more properly."

"My role?"

"I was not slain. I had gained demonic powers! And I also learned the truth of everything. Why you shouldn't get to the top, 'Narrator.' Is that even your real name? Well, I suppose I will keep calling you that since this will all end soon enough."

What truth are you talking about?

"It doesn't matter. Behold!"

...what? Are those the higher ups?! What're they still doing here!?

"Narrator-sama, please stay back! I feel horrible power coming from them."

"Correct once again. They have been attacked by demons. All that is needed is a catalyst and they shall merge into one powerful demon. I am that catalyst."

"I'm sure you would like that to happen."

"Nibey, why do you want some big, horrible demon?!"

Episode 27: Repression

“<panting> Wow… how many shadows and demons does that make?”

I lost track after 20 each… they sure aren’t making this easy…

Are you kidding? With all the shadows I’ve absorbed I basically have max stats right now. We’ve done amazingly!

Yes, you truly have. Perhaps you deserve a reward.

Yeah, a reward would be good. Wouldn’t a shot of whiskey be great right now?

“Oh come on, Narrator-sama. Finding out what’s happening up here will be reward enough. And I think we’re almost at the top.”

Yeah, you’re right. We’re so close I can feel it. Considering this whole tower is based off that one building we’re right by the end... It’s still so weird how familiar this all is…

“You mean like that building where you narrated my life?”

Not just that, but something’s been nagging at the back of my mind for awhile now. It’s gotten more and more intense as we’ve fought our way higher up. Almost like I’ve forgotten something really important.

“Well, I’m sure you’ll remember soon.”

Episode 26: Obligatory huge tower dungeon

“Right! Let’s get moving!”

Hmm... I can’t help but feel like I’ve been here before. It’s all so familiar.

“Really, Narrator-sama? What about it feels familiar?”

I dunno… the tiles look destroyed and the walls… I can’t place it… Wait a minute, that painting!

This doodle of the man with a devil and angel pulling at him? What trash. Whoever drew this should have their sketchpad taken away.

Not the point, Nibey! This building is where I’d go to narrate your anime life, Tsungeal.

“My anime life? Wait, so this is where it all happened?”

Yeah. I guess it makes sense that this is where the shadows and demons are. This is where we met, which is what drove you to make that wish. But if that’s true… I wonder what ever happened to the higher ups. They said they basically lived here.

Perhaps the demons got rid of them. Or worse.

“Worse? What would be worse than that?”

The future of My Anime Life

It's been a couple weeks since the last update.

Right now I dunno exactly when the next update will be. The four of you don't seem interested enough to ask why I haven't updated in a couple weeks, so that affects the motivation. Although I do know I want to finish this by the end of my semester.

A problem is what happens after the onsen episode. I'm trying to plan out how long the last chain of events take, which entails basically writing all the last episodes.

And then another couple of problems. I work until closing, usually. And I usually would record the night before posting. I'm too tired lately to record at that time. Not to mention my own personal problems going on that no one knows/cares about.

I suppose this basically comes down to "I need time to sort stuff out."

We’re going to a hot spring bath house? Really?

“Yeah, it’s super relaxing. I think we’ll feel a whole lot better after resting here for a bit.”

<they enter and Narrator gets to the bath first>

Wow… this is amazing. Strange since no one’s here to maintain it, but whatever. Aahh…

It’s like you can feel all your trouble melting away, isn’t it?

Basically. Why don’t you get in and give it a shot?

I have the body of a puppy. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it, since I would have to keep myself above water.

Oh, that makes sense.

Do you feel as though you could stay here forever?

Oh don’t even start that again. After this we’re going to the tower. Stop trying to stop us.

I wonder what’s taking Tsungeal so long.

“Really, Nibey? You have both things, too? …Hey, Narrator-sama, what about you?”

Nah, I’ve definitely got only male parts. But see that? You and Nibey both have that in common. You don’t need to feel alone about it and I don’t think it’s anything bad, so don’t worry that I’ll leave you on your own because of that.

“Th-thank you. Thank you both so much. This is the best day ever.”

Episode 24: Repressed Memories

Is this actually the where Tsungeal lives or do you just wanna keep me far from the tower? I’ll lead you off a cliff if you don’t shut up about that. This is it. Doors wide open… I wonder who else might be there. He lives alone. What? But he’s just a kid. Why is he alone? Ask him yourself. This is none of my business. You’re such an asshole.

“<panic breathing>” Tsungeal…? Are you okay? “No, don’t come near me. You’ll just leave me once you find your brother, so we shouldn’t actually get attached to each other.” Where did that come from? “What do you care!? I’m just some kid freaking out, right? That’s what you always think of me!” Yeah, I won’t deny that. Especially now, because it’s the truth. Now tell me what’s going on. “I… no, I can’t…” Come on, tell me. I won’t judge you or make fun of you. You’re not one to help people, usually. That’s true. I usually walk away and open up a six pack. Like I said before, though, I plan on changing my way of life. “You really wanna know…?” I’m standing here waiting for you to talk, so yes.

“Okay… well, for a long time I figured I was just alone. I didn’t remember anything from before a few years ago. Then Nibey reminded me of everything I had forgotten. My… My parents abandoned me when I was a baby. They dropped me off in this house with this guy named Yosuke, but he preferred to go by Steve. Then when I turned 13… he left me, too. He said he didn’t want to take care of someone like me.” A person like you? What does that even mean? “I know what he meant and I guess I understand since I don’t see anyone else with my… things. But… first my parents leave me because of that and then Yosuke goes away, too. I… I can’t trust anyone to stay with me. I can’t do it! It all hurts so much that I just shouldn’t bother being around anyone anymore!” Tsungeal, calm down. I’m not leaving. I had the option to leave back when you fought that one demon, but I chose to stay with you and help you fight off demons and shadows. “You… you did?” Yes. I’m walking this path to ruin with you. And if I really wanted you gone then I wouldn’t have come here after you, would I? “I… I guess you’re right… Thanks, Narrator-sama. I think I feel a little better now. Can we go somewhere before we continue, though?” Sure, where is it? “Here, follow me!”

Episode 23: Oh God!

“Owww… what happened…? Oh, Narrator-sama! I-I, uhh…” Don’t worry Tsungeal, I get how you feel and it’s okay. “Sh-shut up!” There’s no point in denying it. That demon was in no position to lie. “O-Okay, then I guess you could say I like you a little… well, I guess you could say I like you a lot, heh heh… b-but don’t think that makes you so special, okay?!” Of course it doesn’t. Why don’t you stop blushing so we can head inside. “I-I’m not blushing! I’m not, okay!? Jeez…”

Will you two quit making out? In case you can’t tell there’s a shadow coming out of the building. Oh, so there is. I’ll take care of it, that way I’ll for sure absorb it’s energy. Nibey, keep an eye on Tsungeal.

A minute later.

Well, that was good. Didn’t hurt when it’s energy flowed into me this time. …Is everything okay, you two? “No! Don’t come near me! I don’t want to see anyone anymore!” Wait, Tsungeal? …Nibey, what did you do? Nothing. I just had idle conversation about his past. Ugh… knowing you, you probably brought up some horrible memories of his. Why don’t you go after him, then? I will. And after we take care of what you did we’re coming back here. So don’t think I’ll forget about what I’m trying to do. Persistent moron.

“Stay away from my Narrator-sama!” Hey, Tsungeal. Waa, where are you taking me? Did you notice where it is? “We’re going to be together forever!” Yes, well, where’s the demon? “You don’t need demons! You don’t need Nibey! You only need me!” Let go! “Ohh, did I hurt you? I’m so sorry, Narrator-sama. I just can’t stand the thought of you with someone else!” With someone else…? Episode 21: Statue Mayhem

“Wooow, this tower’s huge!” It really is. I can’t even see the top of it from here. Ugh, what an overused concept.  Don’t villains get bored of making these huge towers? I’m surprised you haven’t made a reference to phalluses with this building. It’s too easy and overused to say they’re compensating. Besides, I don’t care.

“Hey, what’s that in front of the doors?” Tsungeal, don’t run ahead, it might be a demon. “Oh come on, it’s just some cheap statue. Hellooo? See, no response!” You’re too reckless, kid. Hey! Why are you putting your hand in the mouth?! “There might be something useful in here!” Or you’ll get your arm cut off. Now you stop that! “Wait! I think I feel a lever!” Wait, don’t pu… you’ve already pulled it, haven’t you? “Yep yep! It’s not doing anything, though. Hrmm super lame…”

Hey, Tsungeal, you should move away from the statue now. “How come? …Woah, what’s that weird purple fog? It’s kinda pretty!” Don’t call something that could be dangerous pretty! “Ohhh, I think it likes me wooooah!!” Close your mouth and cover your nose! “<coughing> uuuugh, what was that? Episode 20: Crash

“Okay, where’s that tower…?” I hope you’re not asking me. Why are you following us anyway if you don’t want us to go there? When you both decide to give up and just fight to survive until you die I want to be there to say that I told you it would happen. “Nibey, you’re so mean to us now. You were so nice to me when we first met.” Yeah, ‘cause he wanted you to sell your soul, I bet. Always the cynic. I don’t see you saying otherwise. Because there is no point in you two hearing the truth. You will not understand. “Well, whatever. We’ll find the tower and fix all of this stuff! Right, Narrator-sama? …Narrator-sama?”

Why have you stopped by this tree stump? Is it a metaphor for your life and dreams? … “N-Narrator-sama? What’s wrong?” I still can’t figure it out… back then when I had my last car accident. I hit this tree and it was completely uprooted. Now the stump is here… “This is where your car got totaled?” Yeah… by all logic I should’ve died, but I walked out of it and continued my life just fine. I don’t understand… luck alone couldn’t have made me survive. Perhaps it wasn’t as bad as you remember, since you were inebriated. Well… I can’t rule out that possibility. I usually remember things pretty well. Especially me crashing into a tree. I can’t shake the feeling that something intense happened… but I digress. We should really get moving. “Hey, Narrator-sama! Look way over there!” Huh? …A tower. We found it! Let��s go, Tsungeal!

What's all this around me? Darkness? But I see myself and floating, obscure objects around me. Is this a dream? ...Yeah, feels like a dream. What's that in the distance? Some kind of yellow light. As I move closer to it I feel some sense of familiarity. Like I'm having a reunion with someone I thought had long gone. It feels powerful whatever it is. When I finally get there I hear the same deep voice that I've been hearing, "Welcome back my friend." This... this is my friend. I know this being. I hear moans and cries of anguish, but for some reason it's not terrifying. Sounds of people's lives ending and I'm not phased. Maybe because I'm with my friend I haven't been with in a long time. ...who is this friend, again? What is it's name? It's been so long that I only recognize the feeling I'm getting.

Are you two just going to aimlessly wander around the town until you find the tower? Yeah, unless you suddenly feel like telling us where it is. Not going to happen. The old man has gone. He cried bloody tears and faded away. He looked terrified and sad. I should be glad to be rid of him, but I feel like my problems aren't leaving. I occasionally hear the same voice as I did when the officer died. Something about it is so familiar. Like a friend that I haven't spoken with in a decade. I try to talk back to the voice, but it never responds to me. More people have been dying lately. Some people thing there's a new plague, but nothing is being found as the cause of death. I've noticed a lot of them are people who bullied me when I was younger. Some of them are completely unrelated to my life. Does this voice have anything to do with it? Or did the old man leave my mind to torture more souls until they die? Or worse... could I somehow be responsible for these deaths? If the old man could manipulate my body, I can't rule out that possibility.
