i starting think about this post as I was falling asleep last nite and had to find it again today b/c I love it and my sleepy brain developed a related theory. The executives are whatever ruby is! The executives seem like they've been programmed to do being the best possible businessmen regardless of morals. Ruby starts out seemingly programmed to do being the best get away car regardless of morals only changing as it builds relationships with the aurinkos.

My only working theory right now is that the Dokana Group is the remnants of Martian survivors. Because, why the hell else would they want Juno? No offense to our beloved disaster detective, but he is just a lady. But people have been way more interested in him ever since he imbibed Ancient Martian fluid. And now Juno has some kind of Ancient Martian code in him they want/need.

It would also explain how weird the Associates are. If you'll remember all the way back to S1's climactic finale (and hasn't Juno come such a long way since then 😊) the Martians were supposed to all be genetically identical. Basically one organism with many bodies. Maybe they weren't quite as unified as Juno theorized though. Maybe there were some slightly different Martians that escaped the first gene bomb way back in the past. Or maybe a certain sect edited their genetic code just enough that the blast didn't affect them. (Although I'd bet it was meant as "cleansing" in that case). It would explain why they all are the same.

Anyways, I've been rotating this last set of episodes in my head a lot. I can't believe it's almost over.

Everything s5 top is wonky that I can't tell if we're supposed to slip as a romantic rival for Juno. In my mind obviously not because if he wakes up he'll be like mentally 16 still right? We can't be expecting that Nureyev is tryna date someone with the emotional maturity and life experience of a literal child right? But then I see a lot of the fandom- and sometimes canon- engage with it like they are romantic rivals. Am I missing something? Am I holding kabert to unrealistic expectations of making sense?

Do we think if dokana had gotten to a young juno after benten's death that he would have gotten sucked in like Nureyev or melee? He's such a sucker generally that I feel like the answer is yes.

I feel like his being able to see how absurd the quest to bring someone you love back from the dead is because he had over 2 decades to process his grief and sense of guilt.

By engaging with the dokana group's scam Nureyev has gotten to avoid experiencing grief and processing his guilt. This in turn seems to dig him even deeper into engaging with their scam.

I heard this interview with Ken Burns once where he talked about all of this amazing footage he gets for his films that he doesn't end up being able to use because it wouldn't fit well in the narrative. He talks about crying over having to cut things he loved, but how he does it anyways because he owes it to his audience to give them something cohesive.

I wish the penumbra creators felt like they owed their audience something cohesive. After years of listening I feel so sad about what a half-assed job they have done of tying up loose ends and how much in juno steel especially has been retconned. It's just so deeply unsatisfying and I feel like the people who have stuck with the story deserve better.

My prediction for terrible waste part 2 is that both slip and melee(?)'s dad aren't with the revivified workers that were just released. They're part of the "very special project". I think dokana will try to use them for the special skills they both had- we know the executives wanted slip's formulas and that melee's dad was an engineer.

i don't really think we'll get to see the aurinkos all together again (unless kabert goes for a really corny epilogue) BUT my dream for the next juno episode is that to get revenge on the dokana group they call the family in for reinforcements.

i don't want to go back to Hyperion City. The plotlines suck there. Except the last few episodes of season 3. They don't suck.

been sitting with the new Juno episode and need to put this hot take out to no one; I stand by Nureyev's actions. Like Juno just created this crazy ultimatum of Nureyev having to agree to involve Juno in his life right now or it means he doesn't love Juno and never ever gets to see him again???

And like isn't it kinda valid to be like no Juno, you can't be involved because you're kinda super reckless and mess stuff up a lot???

I dunno. I woulda sent that lady to jail too.

There might only be like 4 Juno steel stories left after this one- there were only 7 last season! I feel like they've still got a lotta explaining to do! Like who the hell is Rita really?! And where the hell did the ruby come from?! And what's been happening on Mars while we've been gone?!

And also we're running out of time to see the rest of the aurinkos again!

And I just don't feel like they're heading in the direction of these things! I'm worried it's just gonna be a bunch of cat-and-mouse detective stories which is cute but we're on a deadline!

I'm feeling so nervous! That probably a normal way to feel right?! Are we all panicking about this???

i want Juno and Nureyev back together as much as the next gay and I'm down to spend the entire last season listening Juno and Rita and Ruby do bonkers things to try and make it happen. HOWEVER, Juno being like "oh Nureyev just sent me to jail because he loves me and thinks I'm so smart and totally knew I could get out" has " he's totally gonna leave his wife for me" vibes and it's troubling

hello! i have been listening to the penumbra podcast with my mother for a while now, but school has started so we've fallen out of sync. i just finished season three while she is about 3/4 through season two. because of this, i have to wait for her to catch up. don't feel obligated to at all, but do you have any non-spoilery fics you could recommend? i don't really care about which plotline or whatever but i will request for no smut. thank you!

I actually haven't read much penumbra fic, I very rarely read fic for things that aren't finished yet. I read one mechs/penumbra crossover because I was intrigued but that's spoilery for s4, so. If anyone else has suggestions, through them in a reblog and I'll reblog them here
