Reminder: When we recheck your pet’s ears, even if it’s the 5-6th time cause the infection is stubborn, it is not pointless. No i didn’t have an owner decline a cytology for the pet with brown discharge coming from the ear what are talking about. (p.s. if it gets to that point send off a culture and sensitivity pleasepleaseplease)

#i posted this to the wrong blog but i am too lazy to delete and manually retype my tags #and if you want to minimise the amount of times we need to recheck your pet's ears #please follow the ordination in regards to esr cleaning and medication #once every three days is not comparable to twice a day and i am not surprised the yeast is still there #veterinary

Uh oh nearly got bitten in the face by a German shepherd mix at work.

It’s scary how quickly it can go, I didn’t see it coming and only drew my head back at my coworker’s shout (felt the snout collide with my forehead as I drew back).

I feel shitty about having only passively noticed the dog’s signals and putting myself in danger when I know better.

So anyway. Always have the owner hold a big dog’s head for you.

#need these right now #veterinary medicine #had a really good on-call weekend and then one really bad experience made everything feel terrible #really sick kitten that got left with me and just progressively declined over the course of the day until I had to put my foot down #and recommend euthanasia #note: we are not an animal hospital #we don't have an ICU or even stationary care #it was just me and this kitten #and it sucked #vetblr

I am feeling positive tonight so here are a few others lovely things to happen at work this week:

Owner coming in to pick up her dog's urn saying they are so happy they came to us and that we are the best vet clinic in town, possibly the country (😭)

My boss told me about a rabbit patient I had in a while ago that I kept for four hours on a heat pad and IV fluids before he could go on to an exotics specialty clinic (I was convinced he was going to die) (he is also the first rabbit that I successfully placed an iv on): the exotics specialist said "he shouldn't have been alive when he came in" BUT HE IS ALIVE AND WELL TODAY!!

#vet med #vetblr #kind of need a little positivity after a few rough weeks including having to put down a feline patient that I was head over heels for #if anyone has any other recent happy stories i would love to hear it!

I think it is the best feeling in the world to have a pet come in to your clinic and just handle it like you usually would and then the owner tells you that the pet is usually really nervous at the vet and they've never seen him this calm before

#i am however terrible at knowing what to say in response when people compliment my bedside manners haha #this is for little A who visited us today and ended up coming up to be pet and the end of the visit #while i was telling his owner that the bloodwork looked perfect #vetblr #veterinary medicine

The good news is that I should be safe from feline viral rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia, and calicivirus for a year.

You have to remove an animal from a room. Your equipment is a long stick, a bucket and a hoodie.

#also i am swedish and we have one kind of snake and it is small and onlu mildly poisonous #even if the bat isn't rabid it feels like a much bigger disease vector than this small chill snake

obviously people steal things from other people it's one of the oldest tricks in the book but it still always surprises me to learn that people plagiarise because my introduction to the concept was basically being told that if i ever plagiarised anything i would be executed by firing squad and my head would be removed and displayed on a spike outside the walls of the hallowed academic institution i was attending as a warning to others

#still bitter about that time in high school when I quoted one of the Eragon books and cited it #and it got flagged in the plagiarism checker because someone else had posted it somewhere onine without credit #crazy also that people get away with it?
