Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans, Michael Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie ! Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places across Earth and the Universe.

I understand the whole "Toph could beat Ozai/the entire Fire Nation" jokes are just for the funnies and they're not hurting anyone but at some point it feels like Toph's character gets lost in this weird mythos we've built around her character. Sometimes looking at the fandom it feels like she's less of a character and more an idea(?) idk

Does Sirius have mommy issues or daddy issues?
Tumblr media
Wellllllll, I think both parents do a lot of damage to Sirius. Here are my headcanons for each parent:
Orion is cold and unemotional and has a biting wit. Rarely cracks a smile. Ignores his children. Mostly.
Walburga is loud and sees everything. Constantly aware of Sirius. Always telling him how to sit, eat, dress, etc.
As a child, Sirius craves the attention of each parent, and he hates that about himself. He tries to get his father's approval by using the same dry humor Mr. Black favors (which is RARELY noticed), and he gets his mother's attention by acting inappropriately (putting up posters of bikini-clad Muggles, wearing the "wrong thing", etc).
I really like the idea that he loves his parents so much that although Mr. and Mrs. Potter treat him "like a second son," he doesn't think of James's parents as his own.
Not everyone who has shitty parents is looking to each older adult as a surrogate parent, and Sirius strikes me as the "fuck it, I don't need parents. I can take care of myself." The decision to emancipate himself is him deciding that he won't care about his family anymore. He doesn't need their approval--he has himself and his friends. That's all he needs.
BUT. That's why I have two HCs for OotP -- one, Sirius wears his father's clothes, and two, when he's alone, Sirius sits on the floor and drinks while his mother's portait yells at him.

reminder that it's sirius who lily canonically sent a letter to when she was in hiding. it's sirius who lily called padfoot. it's sirius who was the godfather of her son. it's sirius who she trusted her child's life to. it's sirius who she wanted as secret-keeper. not remus "number one james fan" lupin. if either of the two was lily's best friend, it was most definitely sirius.

"Zutara was created by fans. It was created by girls imagining something better for a female character they loved, and by extension, themselves"
This is the first time I came across a Zutara fan who has the self-awareness to openly admit the very obvious self-insert side of her ship.
Zutara talk I came across always revolved around how much of a great Fire Lady Katara would be, the power she would held over the Fire Nation people and how superior she would be to Azula (and Mai, the nemesis when not shipped with someone else) etc.
That's why I disagree with your last sentence @kidcaroline, the screen hit it right (quite obvious as a Zutarian herself), this ship is for girls who greedily craved "better" for their self-insert. Being a privilege queen in a castle with the dark prince is more thrilling than playing mom with a bald monk. Who is going to wash their feet ?
Tumblr media
🤮
-this post is written by a grown ass woman who still can't get over her childhood crush on zuko (16 in the series, mind you)
-this post is the epitome of self insert. Read Zuko x Reader and leave Katara alone omg
-zuko is not a dreamy charming boy in canon, but a loser
-lying about aang and katara and acting as if he's 5 and she’s 30 will not make your crack ship better. It's still a dumb crack ship
-this ship started with the pirate scene where Katara was an hostage, tied up to a tree and her mother's necklace was used for extortion. This ship is for the girls who want better for ZUKO. Not Katara
Anyway she loves Aang. Stay salty ❤

Interesting moment:
Zuko hires an assassin to kill Aang. Then he tries to get Aang to kill Ozai. In both cases, he tries to do dirty and dangerous work with someone else's hands. You can also remember how he hired pirates in the first season. And then he betrayed them, creating problems for himself out of nothing.
Iroh sends Zuko and Katara to fight Azula, which in the context of two against an entire enemy capital is pure suicide. He also sends Aang to fight Ozai, justifying it by saying that his fight with his own brother will look bad, apparently Azula and Zuko are strangers to each other in his opinion. That is, Iroh also willingly uses other people for dirty and dangerous work.
Ozai used Ursa to get rid of Azulon, and most of the achievements in the Earth Kingdom are provided by Azula's work. That is, Ozai may also not be without a desire to rake in the heat with other people's hands.
But when it comes to Azula. In fact, in all her operations, she always fought in the front lines. I can't remember a single episode when she dumped the dirty and dangerous work on someone else. Moreover, we can recall that Mai, who refused to fight the Avatar and his team who attacked the drill, did not receive even a verbal reprimand from Azula. The princess simply ignored it and rushed to solve the problem herself. In my opinion, this is a very characteristic difference between Azula and the rest of her family.

Random headcanon
In general, when people first meet Zuko and Azula, they like Zuko much better. They project whatever they want to see onto him, while Azula is a lot off-putting, to say the least.
But over the long term, they generally find themselves liking Azula much better. Why? They find that Zuko is willing to betray and screw them over at the slightest opportunity for no reason whatsoever, while Azula behaves consistently and rationally, actually does what she's supposed to, and, surprisingly, mostly remains true to her word. Not to mention they find her "off-putting" nature is a side effect of her being awesome, capable, and a girl.
The only real exceptions to this trend are Iroh and Ursa, who among other things are massive misogynists who are eternally pissed about Azula overshadowing their golden boy. Essentially everyone else went through the cycle of liking Zuko and disliking Azula, before realizing that Zuko is a loser and Azula is awesome.
The only thing different about Mai is she finds Zuko being a pathetic loser kind of attractive.

Ser Davos could have been a second son of King Vorian sent by the Dayne to fight for their new queen in order to prove their new loyalty after they had been defeated and their fallen king sent to the wall. Young Davos might have proposed himself, or it might even have been required by Queen Nymeria herself for the defeated to send troop and help in their campaign (not unlike the way Aegon and his sisters carried their conquest).
During the campaign against the Yronwood, young Ser Davos would have made a name for himself earning the right to wield Dawn as his father would have done before him; and through time, respect and love might have blossomed between the queen and her best knight.
It seems to me more likely than a scenario where Lord Vorian would have foolishly rebelled against Nymeria (the queen that had just defeated him) to be defeated a second time, be spared a second time, and then be sent to the Wall with some sort of honorific (is it really ?) royal title given to him... (the man is somehow rewarded for betraying his queen ?!)
This scenario seems too farfetched to me, especially when there is a much less convulated way to make it work.
In your essay on Dorne, you suggest that Vorian Dayne came after Davos Dayne. Which is a big surprise 1- Vorian would be far more plausible as the king who was eventually defeated and sent to the Wall, with Davos succeeding him as leader of the Dayne household. 2-If Vorian was sent to the Wall for leading a failed rebellion after the consolidation of the Martell as rulers of Dorne, it seems to me very unlikely that he would be sent with the status of king
Here’s my logic:
We know that during Nymeria’s first marriage, the Daynes were allies of Mors Martell during his nine-year campaign against the Yronwoods. Sending Vorian Dayne to the Wall in this early phase wouldn’t make much sense.
After Mors Martell’s death, which came before Nymeria’s eventual victory against the Yronwoods, Nymeria married twice, first to the Ullers and second to Ser Davos Dayne, who was the Sword of the Morning but not Lord of Starfall.
Davos Dayne’s son with Nymeria was passed over as Nymeria’s heir - which would break the First Men and Andal rules of succession that the Daynes would have followed - in favor of her oldest daughter with Mors Martell, following the new Rhoynar customs. In dynastic politics terms, this is a huge blow to House Dayne, rendering the marriage alliance useless.
Vorian Dayne, who was Lord of Starfall but not Sword of the Morning, was sent to the Wall at some point by Nymeria - why would the two come to conflict when their Houses had been allies in the war against the Yronwoods? Well, Nymeria’s decision to name her oldest daughter over her oldest son would be a clear casus belli.
My belief is that King Vorian Dayne was the older brother of Ser Davos, in one of those periods in which Dawn had been given to a non-ruler of Starfall (as was the case with Ser Arthur Dayne), that he allied with Nymeria against the Yronwoods, confirmed that alliance by marrying his highly symbolic younger brother to Nymeria, rebelled when his nephew was disinherited, was defeated, and was sent to the Wall as a King in part to smooth over ongoing tensions within the court at Starfall, as I can’t imagine it would have been easy for Ser Davos or his son during the rebellion.
The problem with your scenario is that, if Davos had succeeded Vorian, he would have been Lord Davos Dayne rather than Ser Davos Dayne when he married Nymeria.

Bulma: “It’s just not the same without him, is it?”
Chi-Chi: “Gosh, you really care for Goku. Hey! I know! How about we trade mates? Vegeta for Goku! Vegeta’s not as sweet, but he’s certainly more dependable. I think it evens out.”
(Everyone laughs)
Bulma: “Hmmm!” >:(
Yamcha: “Hey! I’m available ladies! What do you say, huh?”
Chi-Chi: “We’re talking an even trade! We don’t want a downgrade.”
(everybody laughs)
Agh, this is episode has to be my favourite xD

▲ Dragon Ball
YAMCHA HATE IS IDIOTIC AND NEEDS TO STOP FOREVER! HE’S A GOOD PERSON AND NEVER CHEATED ON BULMA WHY IS THIS EVEN A THING UGH!
I love VegBul with all my soul but I’ve grown to despise the fandom. I can’t read any fanfics anymore without getting angry because the oocness, the Yamcha bashing, and in recent years-FOR SOME REASON-the bizarre hatred they throw on Gochi. They have this superiority complex like their ship is the best and all others are inferior. It’s sad if I want good VegBul I look for it in fics where they are shipmates with the other canon ships because VegBul centered fanfics have gone down the toilet.
Piccolo is more green uncle imho. I don’t see him as surrogate dad for Gohan. Gohan of course respects him, but he’s in Gohan’s life about as much as Krillin has been most of the time. This is not to discount the very important bond they formed, it what sparked the big change in Piccolo.
Vegeta I love this prince but ugh no he’s not a better dad than Goku. He doesn’t start being an actual decent father until halfway through Buu Saga and on. Goku contrast has always been extremely affectionate and while he’s DEFINITELY NOT a perfect husband or father and does his best to provide them the only ways he knows how WITH his limited skill sets being raised in the woods with no education and when he’s not you know DEAD. Dying =/= abandoning your family. If that was the case I didn’t see any of you hate on Grandpa Gohan and claim he was being selfish and abandoning Goku when the suggestion of using the wish to bring him back to life, he denied and wanted to remain dead because he’s at peace and feels his time should stay finished among the living.
I…really can’t stand Vegeta/Goku, or Trunks/Goten, or Trunks/Mai, or Trunks/Pan. Majorly not a fan of any of those ships.
THE HATE CHICHI GETS IS ALSO EXTREMELY RIDICULOUS, I will fight for my ox-princess.
I hate Dragonball Minus and the Bardine ship. I actually like the concept of Gine as a character, hate her with Bardock-the two make no sense as a couple and serves to gut Bardock’s character and make him a boring Jor-El clone. I don’t care what anyone says, it creates nothing but more plot holes and contradiction with canon and as far as I’m concerned I don’t consider it canon.
I love Masako as a voice actress but think it’s ridiculous she still voices adult Goku and Gohan. When they’re adults they should not still sound like 12 year old boys. When they were kids it was a perfect fit with her voice. But as adults it really is distracting and ruined any tension from a lot of scenes for me. And I hate to say that because I do truly respect and admire her.

Yamcha: *Is terrified of attractive women who aren’t Bulma for pretty much his whole life*
Bulma: Yamcha cheated on me!
Fandom: Yes. Yamcha is such a playboy. He would definitely cheat on Bulma. This is In Character™. What a douche.
