Barbie and the Rockers was a 1980s doll line released as a competitor to Jem and the Holograms.
The doll line had a tie-in Barbie movie as well - Barbie and the Rockers: Out of this World.
The band consisted of frontwoman Barbie, along with pals Dana, Dee Dee, Diva and Derek. It’s a shame Derek had few if any other appearances as he kind of slayed?

In a follow up release the following year, Ken was added to the line as well.
The line didn’t just include the dolls, but also a variety of playsets including recording studios and rock stages.

The doll line was relatively short lived but has had a few throwbacks over the years, including a Target exclusive run in 2017. However I simply cannot make this post and not talk about the convention-exclusive “reunion tour” Barbie and the Rockers doll from the 2010 National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention.

Isn’t she incredible?!

Fearidescent line of Monster High finally showing up in Malaysia. I am still searching for Cleo though. Saving the unboxing for my doll forum's deboxing weekend in September. Will post the girlies I got (I couldn't buy all of them of course) out of their boxes then!

Just discovered that #RainbowHighDolls can wear selected Blythe clothing and BJD shoes. Their waists are larger than Blythe of course so bottoms need to be elastic to fit. Still, I appreciate getting more use out of doll clothing for various dolls.

I much prefer this version of Margot in doll form compared to the gingham dress... so adorable! FYI - this was purchased in Malaysia. AFAIK, not released in the US yet.

Also got a free tumbler gift from Mattel Malaysia. It's pretty good quality. Too bad we didn't have any novelty popcorn holders. Win some, lose some!

MINT NFT | Mattel Creations
So the Barbie x Balmain NFTs have breached the 1k bid mark.
From what little I know abt art NFTs, this seems like a lower end of the price spectrum but there are still 2 days left.
Personally I would not buy NFTs and I don't think it should be a 'thing' in the doll world but I still am impressed with Mattel taking the risk and trying a new trend. One they my know very little about.
A business willing to move with the times will be a business that survives time. Mattel didn't get to 75 years by playing safe or being conservative. So for me, no to NFTs but hell yes to innovating.

I came across this post and gosh I feel I have to address it. I see significant differences in the face (frm the forehead, nose bridge, nose and lips!) and body. It floors me anyone could believe the dream fairy is a recast of that Angell studio doll. But maybe it's because I am of Chinese heritage so I see differences in Sino features better than someone who is not. Strikes me as a case of 'own race face bias' that think all Asian faces look the same. It would be unfortunate if the large number of non-Asian BJD pro artists decided to shout recast every time own race bias kicked in.
https://m.facebook.com/inessanchezv#!/inessanchezv/albums/10215483852543955/
I finally found a review of the Fortune Days 62cm body! And the bad news is that the reviewer states
“there is now reasonable doubt that this doll has been copied from Angell Studio’s 62cm line, the head being LiuRushi. No definitive proof, obviously, so buy at your own risk.”
So here are a couple photo collages I put together to see how similar they are.
Left: Angell Studio, Right: Fortune Days

I am still processing this and in a bit of shock and denial. I guess right now I think there is some doubt that the body is recast, since every joint is hinge instead of ball and even the silhouette is different with narrower hips and smooshed boobs. BUT it’s a bit close.
And the head is WAY TOO DAMN CLOSE. I know I’m face blind but that looks like the same head with maaaybe minimal changes.
Left: Angel Studio, Right: Fortune Days

So I haven’t decided what to do yet. I haven’t found anyone talking about this except that single reviewer so far, so I don’t know if anyone contacted Angell Studio to ask.
I feel sick.

This world is cruel with some people. She never had a childhood and her emotion of getting a doll which her friends at work gave her says it all.

#ResinsoulBJDs & my love for the unusual.
I am new to BJDs. Barbie & #fashiondolls are and will always be my main doll squeeze but I've recently fallen in love with Resinsoul BJDs and I am seeing how unfriendly the BJD hobby can be.
I don't buy Resinsouls because they are cheap. I mean yea, it's nice to be able to buy a doll outright instead of taking a sell-your-kidney layaway but other BJDs (and dolls) are cheap too, but I don't find myself interested.
I like the Resinsoul size, body, and the quirky faces. They are not perfectly symmetrical, nor the picture of either a perfect Adonis or Anime cutie. They are weird and I love it. I honestly can't abide the anime faces most BJDs have. I am Asian but it's not my aesthetic.
But I've seen how 'pro-artist' people in my country treat those who own Resinsouls. It's like we're not part of the hobby. They are super interested in my Iplehouse girl or my Maskcatdoll but the Resinsoul? Ugh - might as well be buying a recast.
But it's OK. I collect dolls for me. And I love me some #Resinsoul.
