Another fic with Flint cause I love him so much

I hope you like it!

The Galleon was full that night.

No doubt Max would be very happy with the profits you were making that night.

Captain Vane's ship and Captain Flint's ship had arrived that morning on the shores of Nassau, after several months at sea.

You knew Captain Vane. He was kind to you and always made sure to leave you a substantial tip after you left your drinks on the table he always sat at.

That place was a brothel, that was a fact, the scantily clad women walking around the place were proof of that, but that didn't mean everyone who worked there was a whore.

Like you, for example.

You were a teenager when you arrived in Nassau, and as soon as Max saw you she knew you could make a lot of money working for her.

In her words, "you didn't go unnoticed" and you had a "peculiar appearance" you didn't know what she meant by that, but if she said it, it must be true.

You talked to her, told her that you respected the other girls' work but that you didn't want to… well, you didn't want to do the same thing as her. Surprisingly, she understood you.

Any other girl would have forced you to work the same as the others without distinction, but she saw something in you that made her change her mind about you.

And that's how you started as a waitress.

It was a good job, and Max paid you well. Occasionally a drunk man (or several) would try to coax you into sitting down and having a drink with them, but you always refused and tilted your head in a disinterested gesture. Some understood, and others didn't.

Like that day.

You were as always, serving drinks at the tables. It was easy, since most of what they ordered was beer or wine, so you didn't have to go to the cellar for other bottles.

You approached one of the tables and left the jug with the wine in the center of it. The men around it looked up at you, looking at you lasciviously. You were used to being looked at like that, you were a woman working in a brothel after all, but their looks in particular made you feel uncomfortable, as if you were nothing more than a bag of meat created to satisfy their desires.

-Why don't you sit with us, honey? –one of them asked, patting his knees- I'm sure you'd enjoy it very much

-I'm sorry, but I can't fraternize with the clients –you murmured, sketching a false smile- establishment policy

-Fraternize, did you say? –another questioned, laughing out loud while the others joined him- I thought I was already too old for anything to surprise me, and you just appear, a whore with manners –he laughed looking at his friends- Who would have told me?

Suddenly the edge of a sword rested on the man's neck, trapping him from behind.

You looked up to see the man with the sword, he was too focused on the other, so you allowed yourself to observe him closely.

He wore a long black leather coat accompanied by a shirt and black pants. The hilt of his sword was worn from use. His hair, halfway between blonde and dark, was tied back in a small ponytail, letting several strands fall down in a messy manner.

He looked up at you when he noticed your scrutiny. His green eyes rested firmly on yours, as if he wanted to transmit tranquility to you just by looking at you.

You had to admit that he had succeeded.

You didn't know who he was or where he had come from, but the fact that he had intervened to defend you was enough for you.

You didn't think you could have taken on those men alone if they had tried to confront you.

"Take it back," he murmured simply

"Excuse me?" -the man asked, trying to turn around to look at him, but he stopped him by holding him tightly against his chest- Why should I listen to you?

-I wouldn't like to stain the edge of my sword-he observed-I just sharpened it, you know?

-You think you're very funny, don't you?-asked another of the men, who stood up to help his friend-

-Not at all, I'm just being honest-he answered calmly-if you take one more step, I'll stain the floor with the blood of this man you call friend-he made a gesture with his head towards him-and you will be the only one responsible for it-

-Okay-the man he had held against him agreed-What do you want?

-You already know what I want-he growled close to her ear-take back what you said, and apologize to her-

He remained silent for a few moments, as if he was thinking about what he was going to do. “As if I had many options” you thought, watching as the green-eyed man pressed the edge of the sword against the other's throat.

-Okay, okay! –the man exclaimed- I take it back! And I'm sorry –he finished, but the blond man slid the sword over his jugular, forcing him to add- we will never set foot in this place again, neither me nor any of my men, I swear –he added-

Finally the green eyed man let go of him and they left without saying a word, fleeing as if they were rats instead of men.

The brothel had fallen silent at such a display. You felt the gazes of your companions on you and everyone in general on the man in front of you.

The latter observed the people, who automatically returned to what they were doing before that happened. He stared at you, his eyes reflecting the concern he felt for you.

"Are you okay?" he asked

You nodded without being able to speak. He was kind, attentive and had such a masculine and husky voice… and of course his pair of expressive green eyes that… were looking at you waiting for an answer. You quickly pulled yourself together before saying:

-Yes –you murmured- thanks

-Don't give them to me –he smiled looking towards the place where the men had left- he shouldn't have spoken to you like that –he said thinking out loud- now he won't do it again-

He looked at you for a few moments with curiosity as you did to him. You took a deep breath and after mustering up your courage you spoke again.

-Who are you? –you said- I don't think we've met

-If I did I'm sure I'd remember you –he whispered, looking around your face before focusing on your eyes again, you blushed at his flattery, which made him sketch a kind and amused smile in equal parts- Captain James Flint, of the Walrus –he introduced himself-

You froze when you heard him.

So that was the famous Captain Flint that everyone knew except you

Until now

-Captain Flint? –you asked- The one who went looking for the gold of the Urca de Lima and came back to tell about it? –you asked fascinated- That Captain Flint?

-Unless you know someone else –he smiled, you imitated his gesture-

-I don't know anyone –you confessed looking at him carefully- I won't ask you if you found him because I know you can't tell me, but if so, congratulations

-I appreciate it –he whispered- I can tell you the story, if you want –he sat down at the table and gestured to the seat in front of him-

You looked away for a moment towards the top of the stairs, where Max had been watching you since the incident.

You didn't want to break the rules and sit at the table with a client without her knowing, so you sought her approval first before doing so.

A simple nod and a half smile were the confirmation you needed.

You nervously sat down at the table with the captain, under the watchful eye of Max who smiled before taking care of the rest of his chores.

Flint had never fraternized with any of the girls there, but you were the exception.

He told you the story of how they left Nassau in search of the Urca de Lima, going through storms and waves so big they seemed to cover the sky. When he finished he watched you waiting for your reaction.

-And the gold? Did you get it? –you asked intrigued-

He smiled, and resting his elbows on the table he answered:

-That's a story for another day
