7.  Netlix & Hazard Suit? or Flint Water Crisis
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in Chapter 34 of the Book Titus and Violet decide to go to the beach. When you think of beaches you think of white sandy beaches, and clear pretty water, correct ? This is not the case for our futuristic lovebirds. They have to suit up in industrial Hazardous safe suits just to sit and look at the water. Yes I said it correctly just to gaze at the the water they have to be in special gear. The water is so contaminated you can not even step foot in the water. This to me like similar to the ongoing water crisis with Flint, Michigan residents of Flint can not bathe drink or prepare any food with the water coming out the facets. According to my source cnn.com these are the top things we should know about Flint's crisis that has been going on for about 4 years at this point: n order to reduce the water fund shortfall, the city announced that a new pipeline would be built to deliver water from Lake Huron to Flint. In 2014, while it was under construction, the city turned to the Flint River as a water source. Soon after the switch, residents said the water started to look, smell and taste funny.
Tests in 2015 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Virginia Tech indicated dangerous levels of lead in the water at residents' homes.
Lead consumption can affect the heart, kidneys and nerves. Health effects of lead exposure in children include impaired cognition, behavioral disorders, hearing problems and delayed puberty.
A class-action lawsuit charged that the state wasn't treating the water with an anti-corrosive agent, in violation of federal law. As a result, the water was eroding the iron water mains, turning the water brown. Additionally, about half of the service lines to homes in Flint are made of lead and because the water wasn't properly treated, lead began leaching into the water supply, in addition to the iron. Even though and Feed they are just adapting to the madness in subtle ways we are as well, 4 years of doing everything with bottled water or boiling it first is adjusting.

6. Feed Yo Face, Get it? Barrel of Cinnamon Rolls (Feed) and  Super Size Me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the novel in a few places they mention food and how much food means to them in this futuristic society. Like todays society they are fascinated with who can get the supersized food and market it the best the best point of comparison is comparing the Cinnamon roll place to a super sized fast food menu. In the novel Titus had actually ordered a "Bun in a Barrow" which is literally a Barrel full of cinnamon rolls, this displays extreme consumption of food something our society has already been warned about. Already in America in 2018 when it comes to labeling sizes of drinks and products we have the most skewed system of doing so for example at some fast food restaurants a "small" cup portion size is really equivalent to a medium or large in other countries. Being able to make things bigger and better in the United States has always been a trend. According to multiple news outlets the powerhouse McDonalds actually only took their supersized option off after multiple lawsuits had been filed. Also the novel talks about processed foods and they have meat farms, we have meat farms to but this is literally meat being grown out the ground to be consumed by humans. We are not that far as a society from being on the same level as them, major chicken companies Tyson chicken among other family household names poison the chickens to speed up the rate of growth. Steroid Hormone Implants Used for Growth in Food-Producing Animals. Since the 1950s, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a number of steroid hormone drugs for use in beef cattle and sheep, including natural estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and their synthetic

Microchipping and The Feed
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is the actual feed when I thought about thus I thought about dogs who have microchips in them. These microchips give a good bit of information just like the feed does. Scientist actual want to create a human microchip that tells us all of our medical information, to cut down on confusion at hospitals, so they would already know our blood types and things of that nature. The RFID chip isn’t the only technology being used. Grindhouse Wetware, a biohacking start-up in Pittsburgh, is experimenting with powered implants: The RFID chip is powered by the device it interacts with, like the card scanner on your office door, while the implants are powered internally by a battery. Cofounder Tim Cannon inserted a monitor slightly smaller than a stack of credit cards into his forearm that would read his temperature and, through Bluetooth, transmit that information to his Android. The monitor, called Circadia, can be used to control a Bluetooth thermostat or to call an ambulance if Cannon’s temperature spikes or drops too suddenly. “This was to prove that we could design and implant a subdermal device in the body for nonmedical purposes,” says Ryan O’Shea, a spokesperson for Grindhouse Wetware. “We’re looking at what abilities humans could have evolved to have biologically but didn’t,” he says, pausing. “Like bioluminescence.”

3.Clouds and Clouds™
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the novel Feed the clouds are actually Trademarked I found this very weird and ironic because as I stated earlier this book was written in 2002 almost 5-6 year before the first iPhone ever released. This is were things get really freaky for me. How did M.T Anderson predict clouds would be trademarked. There isn't really any significant correlation between Apple's "the cloud" and the clouds in the sky run by corporations, but in my opinion the clouds are more than likely used like blimps for advertisement.. this is how apple defines the cloud Cloud is a suite of free cloud-based services from Apple that helps users store and synchronize digital content across computers and numerous iOS-supported devices such as iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. iCloud serves as the successor to Apple's MobileMe service and is included free as part of Apple's iOS 5, which first became available in October 2011. The service provides users with an initial 5-GB of iCloud storage for free, with additional storage capacity available for purchase on a monthly basis.
iCloud enables automatic synchronization across computers and iOS devices of e-mail mailboxes and messages, calendars, documents, photos, iTunes music and more. Apple also includes an iCloud Backup service that will automatically back up all iOS device data to the cloud, further facilitating synchronization across iOS devices without the need to connect to a PC or Mac via USB and use iTunes for synchronization. The only correlation I see is human spending but I still find it weird.

2. Marketing Schemes (Tide Super Bowl Ad and Coco Cola Feed Add)
In the novel Feed in chapter 31, the young group of teens are excited because Coca Cola is running a promotion that if you talk about Coke with your friends so much they will give you a free six pack. The kids think it is a great ideal to “get over on the major company and get free stuff out of them. so the teens talk about Coke their love of Coke, praising Coke for some of their most precious childhood memories. "Ironically” talking about Coke so much they get thirsty and go by Coke. This is ironically similar to the 2018 Super Ad constructed by Tide detergent. the commercial mocked and recreated typical commercials for other products, but the spoiler would be ‘Nope its still a Tide commercial", This tactic put in the consumers head that even when the Tide commercial was over you still are going to associate every commercial you watch with Tide. According to the Washington Post no other company did it as well as Tide, whose series of ads throughout this year’s matchup managed to be surprising and memorable, and made many people forget that people were poisoning themselves with the “Tide pod challenge.”
Tide’s commercials managed to look simultaneously like a bro-ed out beer ad, an all-American truck ad, a low-budget insurance ad and even an Amazon Alexa ad. What makes them a Tide ad? The clean clothing that everyone wears, according to star David Harbour of “Stranger Things.” “So, does this make every Super Bowl ad a Tide ad?” he asks. And by halfway through the game, he had us believing it.
With every shot of a car driving along a mountainside road, or a cowboy in the sunset, we kept thinking: Will this turn out to be another Tide ad? For a half-second, we cheered the return of Old Spice — until we realized it was a Tide ad. A third-quarter spot with a Clydesdale in a field turned out to be a Tide ad. A geriatric tennis player who we thought would be shilling arthritis medication was in a Tide ad (those bright tennis whites should have been a giveaway). That weirdly sexual uncanny valley Mr. Clean commercial — one of the worst ads of last year’s game? A Tide ad. Even the voice-overs that brought people back into the game after breaks kept the joke going. “Brought to you by Tide. And Tide. And Tide. And Tide.”

1. Charter Schools and Schools™
n the Novel they mention how back in the day the schools are ran by the government and the teens consider that to be old fashioned, but just how old fashioned is it? A big trend we have seen in the United States recently are Charter schools and charter schools are privately owned free institutions. According to to the official charter school website, Charter schools are define as public schools operating under an independent contract or “charter” with an authorizing agency—typically a non-profit organization, government agency or university. The charter provides the school with operational autonomy to pursue specific educational objectives regarding curriculum, staff, and budget. It also holds them accountable to the same (often higher) standards of their district public school peers. The ideal of Charter schools were first introduced in 1991-1992, Now in 2018 there are over 6,000 charter schools in the United States. Charter Schools are almost the same compared to SchoolTM, because charter schools pick their own curriculum and they also choose what the children learn, for example some teach lifestyle skills and some teach prayers, which has been banned in public schools for a while now.
