Conversation
Jean Valjean isn't as hard-hearted sob he'd like to think
VALJEAN: ARGH! I AM A HARDENED CRIMINAL! I HATE THE WORLD! THE WORLD THAT ALWAYS HATED ME! TAKE AN EYE FOR AN EYE! TURN YOU'RE HEART INTO STONE!
FANTINE: I'm a sick prostitute with a daughter. You've met me once, briefly.
VALJEAN: What a poor innocent soul who I harshly mistreated! I will carry you to hospital, pay for your medical care and promise to protect your daughter after your eventual death!
COSETTE: I am the young girl you only chose to protect through obligation.
VALJEAN: Let me sing a brand new song for you about how much you've changed my life and taught me how to love in the last half hour, you special sparkly child!
MARIUS: I am the rebellious and fool-hearty young man who has only met your daughter once and now I have fallen madly in love with her. You've never actually spoken to me.
VALJEAN: You're like the son I might have known if God had granted me a son! I shall wade through neck deep crap for you and your miraculous love! NECK! DEEP! CRAP!

âMovies are my religion and God is my patron. Iâm lucky enough to be in the position where I donât make movies to pay for my pool. When I make a movie, I want it to be everything to me; like I would die for it.â âQuentin Tarantino

âThe world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.â

I just watched The Dreamers
What an amazing and beautiful film.
I now intend to watch every film paid homage to in the film:
Bande Ă part Isabelle, Theo, and Matthew race through the Louvre, attempting to break the record depicted in Bande Ă part of 9 minutes, 43 seconds.
Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne Isabelle quotes a famous line from this film, telling Matthew âThere is no such thing as love, only proofs of loveâ.
Shock Corridor Film Matthew watches at the CinémathÚque Française at the beginning of the movie.
Pierrot le fou Music from the film appears
The 400 Blows The main title music by Jean Constantin appears; Jean-Pierre Léaud, who plays the protagonist Antoine Doinel in The 400 Blows, appears as himself.
Persona Matthew has a picture of Liv Ullman and Bibi Andersson from Persona in his apartment
La Chinoise A poster of the film hangs on a wall in the twinsâ apartment.
Blow-Up A picture of David Hemmings in the role of the photographer hangs on the wall of the twinsâ apartment.
Blonde Venus Isabelle reenacts scene in sexy white painting clothes.
Freaks After Isabelle, Theo, and Matthew run through the Louvre, Isabelle and Theo signify their acceptance of Matthew by chanting, âWe accept him, one of us,â in a reflection of the wedding reception in Freaks.
LâAge dâOr Matthew sucks the toe of Isabelle, imitating Lya Lys in Luis Buñuelâs controversial film.
Follow the Fleet The music from Fred Astaireâs song âLetâs Face the Music and Danceâ plays when Matthew visits Theoâs room
Scarface Theo reenacts the death of the character Tony Camonte played by Paul Muni, challenging Isabelle to name the film.
Queen Christina Isabelle reenacts the scene in which Greta Garboâs character Queen Christina âmemorizes the room,â in Matthewâs bedroom, the first night he sleeps over.
Top Hat Isabelle challenges Matthew to name a scene in which a tap dancer wakes a woman in the apartment below, then Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are seen.
Ă bout de souffle Isabelle imitates Jean Sebergâs Patricia the first night Matthew stays with her and Theo. Isabelle claims her first words in English were âNew York Herald Tribuneâ, a conscious reference to the French New Wave film âBreathlessâ, in which the heroine Patricia yells the same thing. The reference is accompanied by a segment of said film. Matthew imitates Jean-Paul Belmondoâs character by rubbing his lips with his thumb in front of the mirror (something which Jean-Paul does to imitate Humphrey Bogart).
Sunset Boulevard Isabelle puts on sunglasses and a head wrap giving an emotionless gaze, imitating Gloria Swansonâs Norma Desmond character in the scene where William Holdenâs Joe Gillis character has entered the run-down mansion and is made to read a script that Desmond has been writing for her planned comeback.
Mouchette After Isabelle realizes her mother has seen her sleeping naked with her brother she tries to kill the three of them with natural gas. When she closes her eyes images of the suicide of Mouchette from Robert Bressonâs film appear.
