Text to speech software can be enormously helpful for anyone who's visually impaired, or has a condition like dyslexia that makes reading on screens tricky. It can also help overcome language barriers for people who read a language but don't speak it, or are in the process of learning.
Text to speech software is also ideal if you want to listen to a document while doing something else, if you find it easier to retain information you've heard, or if you want to sense-check something you've written.
Mac Pdf Text To Speech
Here's our pick of the best free text to speech software for reading either individual paragraphs or whole documents aloud.
1. Balabolka
Save text as a spoken audio file, with customizable voices
Lots of voices to choose from
There are a couple of ways to use Balabolka's free text to speech software: you can either copy and paste text into the program, or you can open a number of supported file formats (including DOC, PDF, and HTML) in the program directly. In terms of output you can use SAPI 4 complete with eight different voices to choose from, SAPI 5 with two, or the Microsoft Speech Platform if you download and install the necessary files. Whichever route you choose, you can adjust the speech, pitch and volume of playback to create custom voice.
In addition to reading words aloud, this free text to speech software can also save narrations as audio files in a range of formats including MP3 and WAV. For lengthy documents you can create bookmarks to make it easy to jump back to a specific location and there are excellent tools on hand to help you to customize the pronunciation of words to your liking.
With all these features to make life easier when reading text on a screen isn't an option, Balabolka is best free text to speech software around.
2. Natural Reader
Free text to speech software with its own web browser
Choice of interfaces
Natural Reader is a free text to speech tool that can be used in a couple of ways. The first option is to load documents into its library and have them read aloud from there. This is a neat way to manage multiple files, and the number of supported file types is impressive, including ebook formats. There's also OCR, which enables you to load up a photo or scan of text, and have it read to you.
The second option takes the form of a floating toolbar. In this mode, you can highlight text in any application and use the toolbar controls to start and customize text to speech. This means you can very easily use the feature in your web browser, word processor and a range of other programs. There's also a built-in browser to convert web content to speech more easily.
3. Panopretor Basic
Easy text to speech conversion, with WAV and MP3 output
Exports in WAV and MP3 formats
As the name suggests, Panopreter Basic delivers free text to speech conversion without frills. It accepts plain and rich text files, web pages and Microsoft Word documents as input, and exports the resulting sound in both WAV and MP3 format (the two files are saved in the same location, with the same name).
Free Speech To Text For Mac
The default settings work well for quick tasks, but spend a little time exploring Panopreter Basic's Settings menu and you'll find options to change the language, destination of saved audio files, and set custom interface colors. The software can even play a piece of music once it's finished reading â a nice touch you won't find in other free text-to-speech software.
If you need something more advanced, a premium version of Panopreter is available for US$29.95 (about ÂŁ20, AU$40). This edition offers several additional features including toolbars for Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer, the ability to highlight the section of text currently being read, and extra voices.
4. WordTalk
An extension that adds text to speech to your word processor
Customizable voices
Developed by the University of Edinburgh, WordTalk is a toolbar add-on for Word that brings customizable text to speech to Microsoft Word. It works with all editions of Word and is accessible via the toolbar or ribbon, depending on which version you're using.
The toolbar itself is certainly not the most attractive you'll ever see, appearing to have been designed by a child. Nor are all of the buttons' functions very clear, but thankfully there's a help file on hand to help.
There's no getting away from the fact that WordTalk is fairly basic, but it does support SAPI 4 and SAPI 5 voices, and these can be tweaked to your liking. The ability to just read aloud individual words, sentences or paragraphs is a particularly nice touch. You also have the option of saving narrations, and there are a number of keyboard shortcuts that allow for quick and easy access to frequently used options.
5. Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader
A great choice for converting text from websites to speech
Fonts For Microsoft Word

Good file format support
Activate Speech To Text Word
Despite its basic looks, Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader has more to offer than you might first think. You can open numerous file formats directly in the program, or just copy and paste text.
Alternatively, as long as you have the program running and the relevant option enables, Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader can read aloud any text you copy to the clipboard â great if you want to convert words from websites to speech â as well as dialog boxes that pop up. Zabaware Text-to-Speech Reader can also convert text files to WAV format.
Unfortunately the selection of voices is limited, and the only settings you can customize are volume and speed unless you burrow deep into settings to fiddle with pronunciations. Additional voices are available for a US$25 fee (about ÂŁ20, AU$30), which seems rather steep, holding it back from a higher place in our list.

Mac Text Editor For Large Files
Active10 months ago
What are your recommendation for opening large text files on OS X? I found both BBEdit and Textmate to be struggling in this department.
If you prefer text editors with GUIs, Vim and gEdit are both good options and are available. Vim is essentially the graphical version of Vi. For help editing text files in Vi or Vim, see our Beginnerâs Guide. You can even use TextMate as your text editor in the terminal with the command mate. If you're looking for a WYSISYG editor, TextMateâand this entire categoryâis not for you. BBEdit is pretty much the standard for opening large text files on a Mac. I've opened some good-sized files with it, and BBEdit didn't even break a sweat. How large of a file are you talking about?

I'm using HexFiend to work with a 60 GB text file and it works great (apparently it can handle files as large as 118 GB).

I found MacVim pretty good at opening large files.
There's even a plugin to speed it up, if the file is really large.
(If you don't want to compile it yourself, you can download a DMG to install it pre-built.)

BBEdit is pretty much the standard for opening large text files on a Mac. I've opened some good-sized files with it, and BBEdit didn't even break a sweat.
How large of a file are you talking about? And how much RAM does your Mac have (both installed and free)?
Edited to addâŚ
Bare Bones released BBEdit 9.6 today, and according to the Release Notes1 (under Changes):
It is now possible to open files significantly larger than before; the ceiling isn't unlimited, but it is no longer limited by the previously extant constraints in the OS.
Sounds to me like it's worth upgrading (free for anyone with BBEdit 9.x) and trying again.
1 If you've never read a Bare Bones release notice before, you should. Even if you have no interest in BBEdit. Even if you have no interest in Bare Bones. Even if you have no interest in text editors in general. They're that good. Yes, really. Iä! Iä! Pnoies fhtagn!

TextWrangler is a great tool for opening editing and saving large files. I wouldn't recommend if for copying and pasting large amounts of content though. Use it if you don't want to have to deal with the vi interface/commands. Like Loic mentioned, MacVim is a great app if you're more familar with vi.
chrislarsonchrislarson
If you are reading the file only, use the 'less' command. You can navigate and search through the file like vi, but much faster and without the nasty 'line too long' type problems. For working with big production logs, this is an invaluable tool.
Brad Schneider
If you are dealing with files over 2 GBs I recommend 010 Editor. It won't load the entire file in memory which means you can use it to open files larger than your available RAM and opening times will be much shorter (took about 20 seconds to open a 7GB file).

For me, where BBEdit choked on 750MB, UltraEdit (not free) worked satisfactorily fast.
MastaBabaMastaBaba
My first choice is SlickEdit. It looks a bit old fashioned, but I have seen no other editor that deals with large files (even GBs of text) that fast, and still giving a ton of features.

How Do You Curve Text In Cricut Design Space
I'm trying to create some documents and am in need of adding some curved text (similar to WordArt) in Pages. Is there some key combination that will allow me to modify (click/drag) the Text Box containing my text to create a curve. I found the rotate commands but nothing for my current need. I have previously done this by using Word, creating the necessary text in WordArt and then copying it to my Pages document. This works but is archaic, believing that Pages should be robust enough to perform this function as well, given it's claim to being a Word Processing/Page Layout product. This process doesn't allow me much flexibility in modifying the text or the curvature after the fact. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Enhanced Dictation is available in OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later. With Enhanced Dictation:
You can dictate continuously.
You can dictate without being connected to the Internet.
Your words might convert to text more quickly.
You can use dictation commands to tell your Mac what to do.
Without Enhanced Dictation, your spoken words and certain other data are sent to Apple to be converted into text and help your Mac understand what you mean. How To Add Text To A Picture In Word Mac

The second key for me was to use Wordâs Picture toolbar instead of the Format Picture dialog. The toolbar may already be docked. The toolbar may already be docked. If not, you can reach it by right-clicking a picture. Learn how to add words to pictures with Movavi Photo Editor. All you need to do is download Photo Editor for Windows or Mac, install the software, and follow the instructions below. To add words to a picture, open the Text panel and click the blue Add Text button. Now type whatever you want inside the broken white line frame.
If you donât write all the time, then you probably donât need a full-featured word processor, such as Microsoft Word () or Apple Pages (). But you still may want a flexible tool for handling text that lets you compose rĂŠsumĂŠs and recipes, letters and flyers. You know what? You already have one: Appleâs TextEdit.
This text app comes as part of OS X, and can meet many of your writing needs. It doesnât offer advanced page layout features such as columns and image wrap, but it does provide most of the fundamentals. Simplicity comes with benefits, too. TextEdit is sleek and fast. It takes a half-second to launch, and it doesnât lag even if you have a document containing hundreds of pages. On top of that, TextEdit can save documents to Appleâs iCloud, so if you have a desktop Mac and a laptop, you can work on your documents at home and know theyâll still be at hand when youâre on the road.
Still need convincing? Here are six TextEdit tips that show off what this free, easy-to-use program can do.
1. Get better zoom
TextEdit offers a zoom feature with two sizes: tiny and huge. Not very practical when you want to write something and see other windows on your Mac. You can access it from the View menu: Actual size is the size of the page set in File > Page Setup. You can also choose to Zoom In (Command-Shift-. [period]) or Zoom out (Command-Shift-, [comma]), but unlike most word processors, you canât pick a zoom percentage.
Thereâs a top-secret gesture, however, that lets you fine-tune TextEditâs zoom. Just pinch on a trackpad, either inward or outward, to zoom in smaller increments. (Sorry, thereâs no way to do this with a mouse.) With a bit of practice, youâll find the right size, and it will be a lot easier to work with your TextEdit documents.
2. Make quick lists
If you need to make a listâa to-do list, or an outlineâyou can choose from a number of list styles from the Format > List menu. You can also choose list styles from the List bullets and numbering button in the toolbar. (Note: You need to be in Rich Text mode to make lists. If you donât see a toolbar with formatting buttons, choose Format > Make Rich Text, or press Command-T.)
But if you just want a simple list that uses hyphens, or if you want to do some quick brainstorming and then format your list later, hereâs a tip that will save you a lot of time. Press Option-Tab, either at the beginning of a line, or at any location in a paragraph, and that text will change to an indented list paragraph preceded by a hyphen. When youâve finished brainstorming, select all your list items, then choose Format > List to choose another type of bullet or numbering.
3. Add active links
If youâre writing a document that has links to webpages in it, itâs often best that these links be active; when the reader clicks them, you want the webpage to open in a browser. But, if you paste a link in TextEdit, it wonât be active.
Mac TextEdit Tips and Tricks All Kind of Formatting, Adding Tables, Adding Lists When TextEdit is active, there will be the associated bar: A screenshot is worth of thousands words. Best text editor for mac 2017. Although this guide, Mac TextEdit Tips and Tricks is intended for the basic users, advanced users might find some forgotten or less known features. So, there are actually quite good number of features. Most websites usually divide each in to many articles to increase the number of articles.
To make an active link, paste the link and click or select it. Then right-click or control-click and choose Make Link. TextEdit will know that youâve clicked a link, and will convert it into a blue, underlined, active link.
This works for links in any of the following formats: macworld.com, www.macworld.com, or http://www.macworld.com.
If you need to change a link, just right-click or Control-click it, choose Edit Link, and make your changes.
You can also make a link from any text. Select one or more words, choose Edit > Add Link, then type or paste the URL that the link will go to, and click OK.
4. Save TextEdit documents in Word format
TextEdit can read and write Word documents; sort of. Word text box. Youâll be able to edit Word documents without any complex formatting, but conditional formatting, such as text boxes, columns or image wrapping will be lost. However, you can save your TextEdit documents so people using Wordâfor example, on a PCâcan read them.
There are two ways to do this. If your document is in Rich Text Format, then itâs an RTF document, which Word, or just about any other word processor, can read. But you can also save a file in a specific Word format. Choose Save, then, from the Save dialog box, click the File Format menu and choose one of the Word formats. If youâre not sure which to choose, Word 97âas old as it isâis probably the safest.
If youâve already saved an RTF document, youâll need to duplicate it before changing the format. Choose File > Duplicate, and then File > Save and choose the format.
5. Embed files
TextEditâs default RTF format is a special file format called Rich Text Format Directory, which is a bundle, or a type of folder that can contain text and files. That means you can add photos, videos, music files, and even applications.
Letâs say youâre creating a document with a recipe. You might want to add photos youâve taken to remind you of what the final dish should look like. Just drag a photo into your TextEdit document, where youâd like it to be. When you do this, TextEdit will ask if you want to convert the file to RTFD format; accept this change.
Unlike in most word processors, you wonât be able to tweak your image: You canât crop it, resize it, rotate it, or apply shadows or borders. So if you want to do any of these, you need to do so before adding the photo.
But you can also add videos, music files, and more. Just drag any file into a TextEdit document. Bear in mind that any item you add to a TextEdit file makes the file larger, so if you want to send it by email, be careful not to put in too much.
6. Type faster with auto-complete
Tired of typing out long words? Do you have doubts about how a long word is spelled? Save time using OS Xâs auto-complete feature in TextEdit.
Letâs say you need to type the word âtranscendence.â Start typing the first few letters, such as âtran.â Press Option-Escape, and an auto-complete menu displays. Use the Down Arrow key to find the word you want, then press Return to have TextEdit complete the word for you. This can be quicker than looking up a word in a dictionary.
Alas, the OS X dictionary doesnât contain facinerious, so youâll have to look that one up yourself.
TextEditâs got plenty of tricks up its sleeves. Check the appâs Help menu for more about creating tables, formatting text and other great features. You may find that TextEdit is all you need to get your writing done.

Sometimes when managing word processing or text documents you might want to save the file in a compressed JPEG format or other similar picture format. I was recently asked how to do this by a Mac user, who was looking for a way to better manage a text document for presenting it in Web pages, but who was also interested in placing a formatted text file as an object in presentations and other Word processing documents.
Not only does converting a text file to an image allow for easier handling when embedding in other documents, but it also allows for easier drawing of annotations and other items on the document when discussing and presenting it.
There are a couple of ways to save documents to an image format. Sometimes programs may specifically support saving to a JPEG, TIFF, or other rasterized format, but since many don't you can take advantage of a couple of technologies built in to OS X that will allow you to do this.
Screenshots
Vim is available for all the major desktop platforms (and some minor ones) as well as iOS and Android, but makes few concessions for beginners. Vim is an expansion of the Unix vi editor, and its old school design could be a little intimidating if you're used to modern Windows software, but it's a superb text editor nonetheless. The learning curve is steep, with no hand-holding, but in exchange Vim offers unrivaled power. There are features such as various methods of code completion, macro recording and playback, history support for calling up commonly used snippets of code, and built-in script for automation and customization. Good text editor for html. Download here: 4.
The first is the use of screenshots, which is an excellent way to quickly snap a sample picture of the screen, a window, or a selection of the screen. You can then import the resulting image (by default it's a PNG file) into numerous applications.
While screenshots are useful and convenient, they're limited primarily because the screen resolution on Macs is 72 dots per inch, which means the resulting picture will also be 72 dots per inch. This cuts down on file size, but it also limits the uses of the file to being presented on screen. If you print the file or wish for finer detail of the text by having higher resolution, you can't do this with a direct screenshot. In addition, screenshots are limited to what you see on screen, so if you have a well-formatted document that goes beyond the limits of the screen, then you cannot capture it in an image file using screenshots.
Nevertheless, screenshots have their uses and can be particularly useful for illustrating aspects of what you see on screen. For more details on screenshots see this article on screenshot options.
Using a PDF intermediary
The next option is a more versatile option for creating a rasterized image of a text document, which is to convert it initially to a PDF and then to one of many image types. In OS X (or in any supported OS that has Adobe PDF installed) this can be done with practically any printable document by printing the file and then using the 'PDF' menu in the print dialogue box to either save the PDF or view it directly in Preview.
With the document now open in Preview, you can select 'Save As' from the File menu and in the Format window choose one of a number of supported rasterized image formats, including GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and TIFF. Some image formats will have adjustable quality settings, but all should have a resolution option. The default will be 150dpi, but you can increase this to whatever suits your needs. Most printing will not need more than 300dpi, but you can set it to whatever you want.
Add Text To Photo Mac
Keep in mind that the greater the DPI setting the larger the final image will be, especially for nonlossy formats such as BMP and uncompressed TIFF. As an example, saving an 8x11 blank white text document as an uncompressed tiff file at 1500dpi results in a 631.2MB image file. Saving the same document as a JPEG with default quality settings results in a 3.3MB image file.
How To Add Text To A Picture In Word Mac
Once the file is saved you can annotate, crop, and otherwise manage it in ways that would be more difficult if the file were kept as a standard text or word processing file. In the following image example, there is some header information that is placed there by the application being used (in this case I used 'TextWrangler'), but this information can usually be removed in the application's preferences.

Text Forwarding App For Mac
SMS Integration with iChat for Android is different than apps like MightyText and Pushbullet since it provides native integration with Mac OS X, which means you'll get all of your SMS texts from Android in the Messages app on your Mac, and you'll be able to reply to them from either platform. Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch You can use Messages to send texts, photos, videos, and audio messages. You can even personalize your messages with animated effects, iMessage apps, and more â all within the Messages app. Text message forwarding allows you to sync all of your text messages (both iMessages and SMS texts) with your iPhone, iPad and Mac. Previously, the Messages app on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac would allow for synchronizing of iMessages but not for SMS (normal Text) messages.

SMS Forwarding essentially makes it possible to turn the Messages app on your Mac into a full-fledged text messaging app. Not only can you compose SMS messages and stay in touch with your non-iMessage using friends, you can receive messages as well.
On Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone. Go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, then choose which devices to allow to send and receive text messages from this iPhone. Text Forwarding
If you have both an iPhone and a Mac, Apple makes this possible. You need both â thereâs no way to do this with an iPhone and a Windows PC. The built-in SMS-message-sending feature on a Mac only works if you partner it with an iPhone, too â not if you have an Android phone.
This is part of the âContinuityâ feature added in Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Youâll need to enable it on your iPhone by opening the Settings app, tapping Messages, and activating Text Message Forwarding to your Mac. It should then work automatically if youâre using the same Apple ID to log into both your iPhone and your Mac. Open the Messages app on your Mac and youâll see a synced history of text messages from your iPhone, too. You can reply from your Mac or send entirely new messages from the Messages app. Those text messages will be synced to your iPhone, too.
This doesnât cost anything extra â it just uses your iPhoneâs text-messaging service. If your cellular carrier charges you for texts, youâll have to pay that fee for the messages you send.
MightyText for Android Phones
RELATED:How to Send Text Messages From Your PC With Your Android Phone

if you have an Android phone, the best way to do this is MightyText. MightyText is an app you install on your Android phone. You can then sign into the MightyText web app in a web browser on your computer â any computer, whether itâs running Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or Chrome OS â and you can view and send your phoneâs text messages from there. Browser extensions are also available. The AirDroid app for Android also does this and works well.
Like Messages on a Mac, this works entirely through your phone â your computer just becomes a gateway to your phone, which does the hard work of actually sending and receiving those text messages.
Also, within Brackets you have access to plugins so that you can choose and integrate whatever you need. Through this you can get real-time updates in your default browser, making work easier and quicker. However, live preview is among its USPs. Text editor or notepad for mac.

Google Voice is still around, but itâs also still only available to people based in the USA. If you are based in the USA, you can sign up for Google Voice for free. Google Voice gives you a new phone number, which you could use as your primary phone number if you like â although itâs unclear how long Google Voice will continue to be a service supported by Google.
Sign into the Google Voice website and you can send and receive text messages at that phone number. You can also have calls and text messages sent to that phone number be automatically forwarded to your primary phone number.

Skype offers the ability to send text messages from the Skype desktop app. Unlike Google Voice, this is available worldwide. However, Microsoft does charge for this service, so youâll have to pay to send text messages from Skype.
Pay for credit and you can send and receive text messages directly from Skype. However, these wonât sync with the text-message app on your smartphone. People wonât be able to respond directly to these messages, but you can set up sender ID to have the messages displayed as coming from your mobile number. if you do, people who respond will be texting you on your phone â but those messages wonât appear in the Skype app for desktop.
Email-to-SMS Gateways
Many cellular carriers offer email-to-SMS gateways you can use. Send an email to the phone number at this gateway and it will be delivered to the address. You will need to know the carrier associated with the phone number to send an SMS message in this way.
Best Text Forwarding App For Android
For example, letâs say a personâs phone number is 1-123-456-7890 and thatâs a T-Mobile phone number. You could send an an email to [email protected]. Search for âemail to SMS gatewaysâ to find lists of gateways for different cellular service providers. For example, this email-to-SMS gateway list includes different email address for many different cellular carriers around the world.
Be sure to keep your message short â under 160 characters.
Text Forwarding App For Windows Phone
There are also a variety of websites you can use to send text messages for free. These arenât for carrying on ongoing conversations â theyâre just for sending a quick, one-off message to a phone number.
Such websites donât always seem the most trustworthy and may ask for an email address before you continue, perhaps to send you spam. These are really only ideal as a last resort.

Top Rated Text To Speech Software For Mac?
The Best Free Text-to-Speech Software app downloads for Mac: Voice TextSpeech Pro Elements Toau SpeechMirror Speechissimo Listen Later. The Best Free Text-to-Speech Software app downloads for Mac. There are many free text to speech software available in the market. Most of these software work almost the same way â basically convert to speech. They differ in the type of documents that they support, and in ease of conversion from text to speech. If your OS of choice is Mac OS X, and all you need is basic but extremely solid text to speech (TTS) functionality, you donât even have to bother with a third party software application, as the OSâ native Text to Speech feature has you covered.
Top Rated Text To Speech Software
Mac Text To Speech Online
Free Text To Speech Software
In years gone by, text to speech software was rather expensive, but these days there are excellent text to speech tools available free of charge. We're here to help you find the very best tools that will make converting written documents to audio files as easy as possible.
Top Rated Text To Speech Software
Exports in WAV and MP3 formats
As the name suggests, Panopreter Basic delivers free text to speech conversion without frills. It accepts plain and rich text files, web pages and Microsoft Word documents as input, and exports the resulting sound in both WAV and MP3 format (the two files are saved in the same location, with the same name).
Mac Text To Speech Online
Good file format support

I'm no big Windoze fan but the speech to text in Windows is every bit as good aS Dragon as I use them both. In ANY speech to text you have to be aware of mic positioning and extraeous noise. Work on those two things and the text will take care of itself.

Dragon naturally speaking software is the best one.

I haven't read where anyone has mentioned Talk It Type It yet. It is very economical. I bought the basic software about 6 years ago. I paid aprox 20.00 for it. Much cheaper than Dragon. TITI does have higher priced editions but I only needed the basic. I had to train it to recognize my voice, but you will have to do that with any of them. Google them to ck them out. I haven't checked recently to see if the co. is still in business. I say that because I haven't heard any ads about the software like they had a few years back. It could be worth checking them out? I like mine.
Just started using the Windows Speech Recognition and it seems to work well, but needs a lot of patience in training the computer to recognise your voice. Wanted a free option to start with and didn't know I had this on my computer all this while.. Anyone know how I can access the dictionary so as to add a few words? Or does it work with the standard windows dictionary, so I edit my words there. Still getting used to it..thanks to all who recommended this!

Beware Dragon, works fine but when you upgrade from say XP to Vista or Vista to 7, the version of Dragon no longer works, and they want you to buy it again.
If you have a reasonably fast computer running Windows 7, the speech recognition which comes with windows works pretty well.
The latest stable version of Google Chrome 11 has been released sporting the new flat icon with improved security and with the speech-to-text support through HTML speech input API. The first official Google service to make use of this service is Google Translate.
Once after downloading and installing Chrome 11 you can head over to Google Translate page to check out Speech-to-text translation. Right now Google supports only English to other languages. If activated you will see a microphone icon turn blue when you hover over it and the Speak Now speech bubble appear. When you have finished speaking and Chrome 11 speech input API has successfully converted voice to text, Google Translate service steps in and translates language. Might try [Broken Link Removed]. There is a zip file installer available at [Broken Link Removed]. The trial is fully functional, and I tried this on Windows 7. It seemed to act as a front end for MS Speech Recognition, but I am not sure. Worth a shot, though.
free good speech to text software programs available to download http://www.tazti.com/
Thanks for this info although, the term, 'if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is'. I checked out the website in your comment & found that it is free, but for only 15 days. After that, it's $29.95. which is a good price but, I'm afraid the term, 'you get what you pay for' may apply.
So Harry, you went on to check some free software, it wasn't free, and now you're complaining that it's too cheap. Did I sum it up correctly?
I use the Microsoft inbuilt version and it works fine. The trick is to slowly train the program to understand your voice and practice until it does. Accuracy for me is now about 85 to 95%. Its no good expecting speech to text software to work out of the box, although dragon is faster than the others to do that as I have used both. I will upgrade to Dragon 11 later but for now I am using Microsofts version and I write articles from it, so it does work.

People just don't seem to understand the English language anymore do they??? HUGE difference between 'text to speech' and 'speech to text' .. But if you're reading carefully and not just jumping in because you think you know what you're talking about, it's pretty easy to catch..
Did u guys just use google to find this website : hope it will help u ppl ;) http://www.naturalreaders.com/index.htm from : softlogik
you did not read carefully. they are looking for speech to text NOT text to speech. BIG difference.
i,m in a fix guys. i dont have a card yet and cant buy any? isnt there any freeware?
I have just switched on Windows Seven speech recognition and am trying it out for the first time. With a bit of juggling it seems to be going quite reasonably, but I can see that there is a pretty steep learning curve, especially as I have a quite pronounced lisp (and wasn't that fun to have to spell out).
Still for a first try it's not going too badly and I can see me having some fun playing with this to see if I can get anywhere near my not very impressive typing speed. One interesting thing that I have noticed in my short acquaintance with this program is that less common words seem to be recognized easier, a not unsurprising result all things considered. One thing, I am using the microphone built into my web cam, perhaps with a better quality microphone there would be fewer errors, although I'm not sure if a better microphone would be more susceptible to ambient sound. A secondary issue, and one that might not bother others, is I like to have music playing in the background whilst on my computer, either from my sound system or the computer itself, and that would have to go if I were to use speech recognition as more than an occasional thing. tempersfugue
I use a MacMice Microphone with Vista and it's great. I also use it with my favorite MacBook Pro and one of the newer versions of MacSpeech. The mike is a goosenecked usb item that works well up to 2 feet from my mouth. I can use headphones if I don't want music to interfere as ambient sound. Works with PC or Mac. I've been trying and using speech programs for years. The Vista one trains in about 7 minutes. What has to be done though is corrections, otherwise if it practices mistakes, it gets better at them. My son also uses Dragon Naturally Speaking on his XP and just likes it better every time he uses it. Mike is plug and play, look here: [Broken Link Removed]
I use Google Voice, a free service, when I want speech to text. I use it with my Android cell phone and call my own phone number to leave a message. Google does a good job of transcribing my voice message to text and emailing me the text to my Gmail account.
How to edit text in a pdf. I'm pretty sure Google Voice works with any phone. You don't need to own an Android phone to use it. The service is now out of beta and is open for anyone to use.
Hope this helps.
The built in speech recognition works reasonably well IF you have the right mic and sound card. Wrong mic or sound card and you won't get good results no matter what software you use.
Dragon is better than the built in software, particularly Dragon 10 & 11. I use it all the time. I blogged about it here: [Broken Link Removed]

if you have broadband, use [Broken Link Removed], just copy/paste your text and hit the play button. (it was mentioned in makeuseof directory)
the question is about free 'speech to text' software. not 'text to speech'. that's a whole different question. but a useful piece of software nevertheless.
SPEECH TO TEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPEECH TO TEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT TEXT TO SPEECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yo y u wearin a rag, n wat color is dat.. looks lik dark brown, i wanna say blacc.. u folk?

Hi Massey Speech Project [Broken Links Removed]
possible it can do what you want, mostly freewares will not be good and sharewares like viavoice and dragon are little expensive
It also looks like Dragon is for 32 bit computers. mine's 64bit.
If I ever get a copy, i will be sure to post here and give my verdict, but still think the price is too steep.
this topic is best FREE SPEECH TO TEXT dragon is not free and all the other crap is not speech to text like what theyre looking for not just for commands but to write with
Mango - I'm in the same boat as you, I've been searching for not only a good speech to text program, but also decent API to use in some of my programming. But it appears that speech technology is one of those things that's a bit too advanced to get for free. I'm leaning toward Dragon as well, especially now that a couple people here say that it performs well. My own fear was buying it and then seeing that it doesn't perform any better than the free ones!
If you do buy a copy, let us know how you like it!
Tried Dragon and it did not work well at all
Dragon is great! Here is ver10 and $ 59.00 @ [Broken Link Removed] It is the last version but performed very well. Hope it helps.
@Eduardo I just found the inbuilt voice recognition software in windows 7, and tested it out. it is very poor quality, and even with a microphone, it's unable to get sentences right, so I'm afraid I'll have to pass on that one.
@ha14 I don't have microsoft office installed. i use notepad++ or openoffice.
@Aibek, dragon looks ok, but far too expensive, I was hoping for something completely free. have you had any experience using dragon?
I tried for a few days about 5 years ago. Back then I was mainly looking for a program that would let me use my PC using voice commands. Dragon did fairly well but required user to train it first. Because I wanted something quick I uninstalled it:-)
I heard lots of positive feedback about Dragon Naturally Speaking, http://www.nuance.com/dragon/index.htm Mac os find file.
Unfortunately it's a bit pricey.
Hi
[Broken Link Removed]
If you are using Windows Vista or 7, you may have access to the built in voice recognition program. Look for it in the Star menu. Note: I think you have to be running Home Premium or superior to use this feature, though I'm not completely sure.
isnt this just for voice commands to mover around on your computer????we are looking for somethiing that takes your vocals and types them into text!!!!!!!!!
Windows 7 speech recognition does both - controls the computer, and takes dictation. Like most speech to text programs there is some learning to be done on your and the computer's part. If you want punctuation you'll need to say that (period/stop, comma, etc.) If you have a decent microphone then you are all set.
I guess almost all Vistas, Windows 7 and higher specification XPs have speech recognition. In Vista, go to control panel, then Ease of Access, Follow, Speech recognition and you are set.. The tutorial is easy and the best adive is do not get a cheap microphone.
more punctuation does not the answer change -_-

dear Eduardo, lot of merit to you. I was looking for voice recognition software without knowing it is with me installed in computer. thank you
nanda
Btw y has no one noticed that there is no such thing as Windows superior
read better, he meant windows home premium or better!
Ha, that was funny.
I think he just meant home premium or better
there is actually windows superior. its just not a 'legal' copy of windows 7, the product has been modified to suit the user and the pc in usability and response times. my supervisor was talking about it in work when we were discussing upgrading the OS's in the office computers.
Hi, have experience using the Microsoft Speech to Text software built into Office XP/2002. First computer was Compaq AP200, PII400, 512MB PC100 SDRAM. Headset with boom mike turned out to be the problem. Changed it to Logitech USB set. Ran nicely on USB 1.1 at its rate. Worked amazingly better on the new OptiPlex 745 with its Pentium D dual core and 2 GB of specified RAM - 533 MHz. End of buzz and fuzz, beginning of virtually perfect translation of speech to text paragraph after paragraph. Customer agreed to invest her time and effort in training with her 19' LCD monitor. Good luck, dc
Thanks for sharing your experience, Dick!

Better Text Editor For Mac
Simple Text Editor For Mac
Free Text Editor For Mac Os X
Best Text Editor For Mac Free
Without any doubt, if you are looking for a free text editor, TextMate is the best text editor for Mac. You may find many free text editors for Windows but there are very few free applications which are available for Mac and TextMate is one of them.
TextEdit offers powerful rich text formatting options. But sometimes itâs best to use TextEdit Plain Text Mode, which eliminates all formatting and, you guessed it, produces only plain text.
Pixlr Editor was once available as a downloadable desktop app for Windows and Mac, but earlier this year its developer announced that the free photo editor would be going online-only. Visual Studio Code (VSCode) is a relative newcomer to the world of text editors. It was only released last year (April 2015), but it has already been picking up a lot of traction. Microsoft has done a great job of creating a powerful and flexible cross-platform editor that's piquing a lot of interest from developers.
We all use text editors to take notes, save web addresses, write code, as well as other uses. Every operating system comes with a default, basic text editor, but most of us install our own enhanced text editors to get more features.
In this article, weâve gathered links to many different text editors used for different purposes. You can use text editors for basic text editing and taking notes, writing programming code, producing LaTeX documents, writing a book, among many other uses.
Notepad and WordPad Replacements
Are you looking for more capabilities than the default Notepad in Windows? Would you rather use a graphical text editor in Linux, rather than the built-in vi? There are many options for useful text editors out there.
Some employ a tabbed interface, such as Jarte (which is based on the WordPad word processing engine and integrates easily with WordWeb), EditPad Lite (which also has the automatic backup), and Notetab Light (which can also calculate the value of mathematical expressions entered in the program). Jarte, EditPad Lite, and Notetab Light are all only available for Windows. Jarte is also available as a portable program.
Typically, Vi is the default text editor in Linux operating systems and itâs a keyboard intensive program with no graphical user interface (GUI). A good text editor for Windows that has hotkeys available for its 312 text-processing functions, innovative features, and timesaving tools is TED Notepad, which is also available as a portable program. Emacs is also available for both Windows and Linux, and is customizable. It also includes a file compare utility and a file manager. You can also add Org-mode to Emacs, which is a personal information management and outlining tool. If you prefer text editors with GUIs, Vim and gEdit are both good options and are available. Vim is essentially the graphical version of Vi. For help editing text files in Vi or Vim, see our Beginnerâs Guide.
GetDiz is a Notepad replacement for Windows that allows you to edit many text files quickly from within Windows Explorer and has enhanced functionality for dealing with DIZ and NFO files. It can also display ASCII art correctly. Another ASCII text formatter for Windows is TextMorph, which can also convert text to and from HTML and clean up emails (remove all the â>â symbols, etc.), and search and replace by words or multiple paragraphs.
Programmerâs Text Editors
There are many text editors that provide useful functionality for programmers. Most support syntax highlighting for many programming languages, multiple document editing, and are extendable with plugins. Some also allow editing of remote files through FTP.
PSPad not only supports syntax highlighting, but also matching bracket highlighting for most popular programming languages. It also has a hex editor, macro recorder, and a differencing tool. PSPad also easily integrates with the free version of the TopStyle CSS editor. Notepad++ also supports bracket highlighting and macro recording. It also supports syntax folding and is highly customizable through plugins using the included plugin manager. Both PSPad and Notepad++ are only available for Windows.
The cross-platform (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X) editor, jEdit, supports syntax highlighting for over 200 programming languages and auto indent, as well as a differencing utility, an FTP browser, and block selecting. It is also extendable using plugins and macros, and there are hundreds of plugins and macros available through the built-in plugin manager feature.
Programmerâs Notepad for Windows supports syntax highlighting using schemes, both built-in and user-defined, code folding and outlining, a tabbed interface with multi-level split views, and the ability to export to HTML (using CSS) and RTF.
If you like the Vi editor in Linux, but prefer a graphical editor that also serves well as a programmerâs text editor, Editra and Komodo Edit are good options. They both provide Vi emulation, as well as support for syntax highlighting in many programming languages and code folding. Editra has a tabbed interface, allows block (un)commenting and (un)indenting, and is extendable using the built-in plugin downloader/installer. Komodo Edit supports background syntax checking and contains a toolbox with shell command integration, macros, and code snippets. Both Editra and Komodo Edit are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Other options include the following:
Crimson Editor â A very small editor for Windows containing a directory tree view window
Geany â A small and fast IDE for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X that supports code folding, code navigation, a build system, and a plugin interface
Notepad2 â A fast, light-weight text editor like Notepad for Windows with syntax highlighting and runs as a portable program
Microsoft Word Replacements
There are also free programs that act as replacements for Microsoft Word. They can be used as text editors, but they have more formatting features than simple text editors. You can add images and tables, change fonts and color, and insert hyperlinks.
AbiWord runs on Windows and Linux and can read and write OpenOffice.org documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, and HTML web pages. It has advanced document layout options such as tables, bullets, numbered lists, images, styles, footnotes, and endnotes. It even has a Mail Merge utility like Microsoft Word. You can extend AbiWord with a variety of plugins, which can be selected when you install AbiWord. A portable version is also available that you can run from a USB flash drive.
Angel Writer is a small rich text editor for Windows with a high performance rate that allows you to easily create impressive documents.
Minimalist Text Editors
If you get distracted when you write by the plethora of features in text editors and word processors, you might want to try one of the so-called âminimalistâ text editors out there. They are âno-frillsâ editors that either donât offer any formatting features or many of the other features of modern word processors, and even third-party text editors, or the features are hidden until you want them. Without all the fancy features staring you in the face, you can concentrate on the task of writing. Below is a list of some of the minimalist text editors we found.
Dark Roomâ Available for Windows, requires .NET Framework 2.0, and is available as a portable program.
JDarkRoomâ Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X
Q10â Available for Windows and as a portable program
CopyWriterâ Available for Windows and as a portable program
WriteMonkeyâ Available for Windows and as a portable program
Bookwriteâ Available for Windows and Linux
Scribesâ Available for Linux
FocusWriter â Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and as a portable program for Windows
You can even download Word 5.5 from Microsoft for free and run it under DOSBox in Windows.
If you want a simple text editor with the ability to count down from a set word count, try yEdit2 for Windows. If you have to write a certain number of words, yEdit2 can make it easier.
Secure Text Editors
You can also use a text editor as secure place to store private information. There are several text editors that either include encryption as a feature or are specially designed for securely storing text. Notepad++, mentioned in the Programmerâs Text Editors section above, allows you to add encryption functionality using the SecurePad plugin, which is available through the Plugin Manager. SecurePad will encrypt selected text in the current document or the whole document.
Steganos LockNote is a small, simple method for securely storing chunks of information in files. For example, if you purchase a download-only program, you can use LockNote to store the product key or serial number that goes with that program in the same folder, so you always know where to find it.
CryptNote â Available for Windows and as a portable program
CryptoTEâ Available for Windows and Linux, and as a portable program for Windows
NotepadCryptâ Available for Windows as a portable program
Xintâ Available for Windows
f0dderâs fSekrit â Available for Windows and as a portable program
LaTeX Editors
Do you write a lot of scientific papers, documents, or books? If so, there are several text editors that allow you to easily use TeX/LaTeX (document markup language and document preparation system) through a graphical interface to create mathematical content and structured documents like academic articles, theses, and books.
LaTeX Editor (LEd)â Available for Windows and as a portable program
LyXâ Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
WinEdtâ Available for Windows
TeXstudioâ Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X and as a portable program on Windows and Mac OS X
Texmaker â Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
Novel Writing Editor
Thereâs even an editor thatâs meant for writing novels, called yWriter5, available for Windows and Linux. It breaks your novel into chapters and scenes, helping you to keep track of your work. However, yWriter5 does not suggest plot ideas, character names, or write any part of your novel for you. The creative task of writing is still up to you, yWriter5 just makes it easier.
One more text editor to mention is Nano in Linux, which is an easy-to-use text editor you run directly on the command line. Nano is installed by default in Ubuntu and many other Linux distros, and is easier to learn than Vi or emacs.

Windows and macOS come pre-installed with a program that can open and edit text files. It's called TextEdit on Macs and Notepad on Windows, but neither are quite as advanced as some of the third-party applications that are available today.
Most of the text editors below need to be downloaded to your computer before you can use them, but all of them provide their own unique set of features that set them apart from the default software programs that come with Windows and Mac.
Why Use a Text Editor?
A text editor lets you open a file as a text document, something that can be useful for a number of reasons:
Create a file from scratch using a specific programming language, like an HTML or CSS file for use on a website
Edit or build files that end with the TXT, REG, XML, CSV, ASP, BAT, AU3, PHP, AHK, SVG, or JS file extension, among many others
View the text version of a file that you don't know the format for
Quickly remove formatting like bold, custom font types, URL hyperlinks, etc.
If you just need a super quick way to strip the formatting from some text, try this online text editor. To make a .TXT file online without downloading a program, try Edit Pad.

Notepad++
What We Like
Tabbed interface
Automatically restores recently opened, unsaved files
Auto-completes as you write
Includes tons of really helpful features like macros, syntax highlighting, and plugins
Opens basically any file as a text document
There's a portable version available
Notepad++ is the best alternative notepad application for Windows computers. Itâs really easy to use for basic users who just need a text file opener or editor but also includes some really advanced features for those interested. Word 2010 rotate text.
This program uses tabbed browsing which means you can open multiple documents at once and they'll display at the top of Notepad++ as tabs. While each tab represents its own file, Notepad++ can interact with all of them at once to do things like compare files for differences and search for or replace text.
Probably the easiest way to edit files with Notepad++ is to right-click the file and choose Edit with Notepad++ from the context menu.
This program can open nearly any file as a text document and supports lots of helpful plugins. It also includes a really handy text search/replace function, highlights syntax automatically, auto-completes words, and is the best offline text file converter.
The Notepad++ Find option lets you search for words with criteria like backward direction, match whole word only, match case, and wrap around.
Also supported is bookmarking, macros, auto-backup, multi-page searching, resumed sessions, read-only mode, encoding conversions, and the ability to search for words on Wikipedia and quickly open the document in your web browser.
Notepad++ also supports plugins to do things like auto-save open documents, merge all the text from open documents into one main file, align programming code, monitor open documents to refresh them as they change, copy and paste more than one item from the clipboard at once, and lots more.
Notepad++ lets you save text documents to a huge variety of formats like TXT, CSS, ASM, AU3, BASH, BAT, HPP, CC, DIFF, HTML, REG, HEX, JAVA, SQL, VBS, and many others.
Notepad++ works with Windows only, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. You can also grab a portable version of Notepad++ from the download page; one is in the ZIP format and the other is a 7Z file.

Brackets
What We Like
Perfect for an uncluttered, minimal working space
Supports split-screen editing
Includes code-specific syntax highlighting
Can view updates for some files live in your web browser
Lets you use keyboard shortcuts
Works on Windows, Linux, and macOS
Plugins are supported to add extra features
What We Don't Like
Built mainly for people with code development in mind, so most of the features are centered around project files, displaying code, etc.
Brackets is a free text editor that's primarily meant for web designers, but can of course be used by anyone to view or edit a text document.
The interface is extremely clean and modern and feels really easy to use despite all of its advanced settings. In fact, nearly all of the options are hidden away from plain site so that it's easy for anyone to use, which also provides an extremely open UI for editing.
Code writers might like that Brackets highlights syntax, can split the screen to edit more than one document simultaneously, lets you click one No Distractions button for a really simple interface, and supports lots of keyboard shortcuts so that you can quickly indent, duplicate, move between lines, toggle line and block comments, show or hide code hints, and more.
You can quickly change the file type you're working with to instantly change syntax highlighting rules, as well as change the encoding of the file if you need to.
If you're editing a CSS or HTML file, you can enable the Live Preview option to watch the page update in real time in your web browser as you make changes to the file.

The Working Files area is where you can open all of the files that belong to a single project, and quickly move between them without leaving Brackets.
Some examples of plugins you can use in Brackets includes one to support W3C validation, Ungit to make it easier to use Git, an HTML tag menu, and Python tools.
Brackets comes installed with both a dark and a light theme that you can change at any time, but there are dozens of others that you can install through the Extensions Manager.
Brackets is available as a DEB, MSI, and DMG file for use in Linux, Windows, and macOS, respectively.

Komodo Edit
What We Like
Very attractive and modern interface
Best text editor for mac. You can make virtual projects to bring together files from various locations
Supports unique features not found in similar text editors
Changing the interface setup is easy with one click
The tabbed interface is easy to work with
Runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows
What We Don't Like
It's a bit complex â even with its minimal UI â for people who want just a simple text editor
Komodo Edit is another free text editor with a super clear and minimal design that still manages to pack some awesome features.
Various view modes are included so that you can quickly open or close specific windows. One is âFocus Modeâ to hide all of the open windows and just display the editor, and the others show/hide things like folders, the syntax checker results, and notifications.
This program makes it very easy to open text documents even while one is currently open. At the very top of the program is the path to the currently opened file, and you can select the arrow next to any folder to get a list of files, any of which will open as a new tab in Komodo Edit if you select it.
Free Text Editor For Mac Os X
The folder views off to the side of Komodo Edit are also really useful since they let you browse through the file system as well as create virtual projects that link folders and files together to better organize what you need to work on.
A unique feature in Komodo Edit is the area at the upper-left side of the program that lets you not only undo and redo like most programs, but also go back to the previous cursor location, as well as go forward to return to where you just were.
Here are some other Komodo Edit features worth noting:
Can connect to a remote FTP server to open and/or save files
Supports bookmarking specific areas of the document
Lets you switch to a huge number of file types to highlight syntax differently and to save under that format
The 'Go to Anything' search box lets you search for files to open, install add-ons, run scripts and commands, open menus, install other languages, change the color scheme, and more
Recently closed tabs and files are easy to re-open
Lets you preview files in a web browser
Templates can be built out of existing files
A 'Watch File' option can open a document in a new window for reference withouting being added to the tabbed list of files you're editing
Records macros that can be played back to repeat things
This text editor works with Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Visual Studio Code
What We Like
Whole folders can be opened at once to open all of the text files
A minimal interface is just one click away
Supports tabs for easy file tracking
Includes a debugger; perfect for source code editing
What We Don't Like
Centered primarily around editing and debugging code, so it could be too much for the average user
Settings are difficult to change
Visual Studio Code is a free text editor that's used primarily as a source code editor.
Best Text Editor For Mac Free
The program is extremely minimal and even has a 'Zen Mode' option one click away that immediately hides all the menus and windows, and maximizes the program to fill the whole screen.
The tabbed browsing interface seen with other text editors is supported in Visual Studio Code as well, which makes it really easy to work with multiple documents at once.
You can also open entire folders of files at once if you're working on a project, and even save the project for easy retrieval later.
However, this text editor probably isn't ideal unless you plan to use it for programming purposes. There are entire sections dedicated to debugging code, viewing command outputs, managing source control providers, and even using a built-in Command Prompt.
The settings are also not as intuitive to adjust since you have to modify them using the text editor; the settings are entirely text-based.
Here are some features you might find useful in this program:
You can open whole folders at once from the right-click context menu
A 'Change All Occurrences' option makes it easy to select and edit text you want to change throughout the entire document in one sweep
Similar is the 'Rename Refactoring' option to change the name of a symbol in every instance of it across all the documents in your project
Opening recently closed documents is easy since they're listed in the same place
The 'IntelliSense' feature helps to automatically fill in code based on surrounding text and the location of the cursor in the document
Files can be auto-saved if you turn the option on
A document can quickly be reverted back to the state it was in when you last saved it
The editing space can be split into multiple windows for side-by-side reading and editing
Dozens of keyboard shortcuts are allowed and fully editable, such as one to copy/paste an entire line of code directly above or below the current position
You can change the color theme of the program as well as the theme of icons
Extensions can be installed to add more features to Visual Studio Code, such as one to debug JavaScript code in the Chrome browser and another to run programming code directly from the text editor
When searching for text strings, you can define whether to match the case and/or the whole word
Visual Studio Code can be installed on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.

How To Insert Built In Text Box On Word 2017 For Mac
I had the same problem but solved it in Preview. You just need to rotate the image in the direction you want the text to be before creating the text box, then you can rotate it back to the original position and the text will stay in the position you created it. Hope this helps in the future.

Search and replace text within text and binary files with the free sfk replace tool for the Windows (7/Vista/XP), Mac OS X and Linux command line. - download the free Swiss File Knife Base from Sourceforge. - open the Windows CMD command line, Mac OS X Terminal or Linux shell. Generally, there's no difference. Spotlight does not search the text, it searches a database populated by metadata importer utilities. OS X supplies one that extracts the words from a PDF, and Microsoft provides one that does the same for Word doc.

To convert PDF images to text on Mac, you must consider two aspects: freeware or share & security issue. As I have mentioned you should use Google Docs to obtain text from PDF image. It really is free. However you can search the document or copy text from it (and on a Mac spotlight will index the document so you can find the document with a spotlight search). However you can search the document or copy text from it (and on a Mac spotlight will index the document so you can find the document with a spotlight search). This is great if you want to scan paper documents and then destroy the paper.
Downloading sublime text editor for mac. In any case, where Sublime Text 2 stands out is the quantity and the quality of its benefits, among which you can find some as interesting as the multi selection, the multi cursor and the multi layout, thanks to them editing any code is much easier (and much faster). Of course, it also has everything necessary to write articles or texts the usual way.

The folder views off to the side of Komodo Edit are also really useful since they let you browse through the file system as well as create virtual projects that link folders and files together to better organize what you need to work on.
Best Text Editors For Mac

Text plus for mac. Visual Studio Code is a free text editor that's used primarily as a source code editor.
There are dozens of free photo editors out there, so we've hand-picked the very best so you can make your pictures look amazing without paying a penny.
We've spent hours putting a huge range of photo editors to the test, and picked out the best ones for any level of skill and experience. From powerful software packed with features that give Photoshop a run for its money to simple tools that give your pictures a whole new look with a couple of clicks, there's something for everyone.
Many free photo editors only offer a very limited selection of tools unless you pay for a subscription, or place a watermark on exported images, but none of the tools here carry any such restrictions. Whichever one you choose, you can be sure that there are no hidden tricks to catch you out.
1. GIMP
The best free photo editor for advanced image editing
No ads or limitations
GIMP (the GNU Image Manipulation Program) is the best free photo editor around. It's packed with the kind of image-enhancing tools you'd find in premium software, and more are being added every day.
The photo editing toolkit is breathtaking, and features layers, masks, curves, and levels. You can eliminate flaws easily with the excellent clone stamp and healing tools, create custom brushes, apply perspective changes, and apply changes to isolated areas with smart selection tools.
GIMP is an open source free photo editor, and its community of users and developers have created a huge collection of plugins to extend its utility even further. Many of these come pre-installed, and you can download more from the official glossary. If that's not enough, you can even install Photoshop plugins.
2. Ashampoo Photo Optimizer 2019
Textedit For Mac
Fuss-free photo editing with automatic optimization tools
Fine manual controls
If you've got a lot of photos that you need to edit in a hurry, Ashampoo Photo Optimizer 2019 could be the tool for you. Its interface is clean and uncluttered, and utterly devoid of ads (although you'll need to submit an email address before you can start using it).
Importing pictures is a breeze, and once they've been added to the pool, you can select several at once to rotate or mirror, saving you valuable time. You can also choose individual photos to enhance with the software's one-click optimization tool. In our tests this worked particularly well on landscapes, but wasn't always great for other subjects.
If you want to make manual color and exposure corrections, there are half a dozen sliders to let you do exactly that. It's a shame you can't also apply the same color changes to a whole set of pictures at once, but this is otherwise a brilliant free photo editor for making quick corrections.
For more advanced editing, check out Ashampoo Photo Optimizer 7 â the premium version of the software with enhanced optimization tools.
3. Canva
Professional-level photo editing and templates in your browser
Includes free cloud storage
Canva is a photo editor that runs in your web browser, and is ideal for turning your favorite snaps into cards, posters, invitations and social media posts. If you're interested in maintaining a polished online presence, it's the perfect tool for you.
Canva has two tiers, free and paid, but the free level is perfect for home users. Just sign up with your email address and you'll get 1GB free cloud storage for your snaps and designs, 8,000 templates to use and edit, and two folders to keep your work organized.
You won't find advanced tools like clone brushes and smart selectors here, but there's a set of handy sliders for applying tints, vignette effects, sharpening, adjusting brightness, saturation and contrast, and much more. The text editing tools are intuitive, and there's a great selection of backgrounds and other graphics to complete your designs.
4. Fotor
One-click enhancements to make your photos shine in seconds
Batch image processing
Fotor is a free photo editor that's ideal for giving your pictures a boost quickly. If there's specific area of retouching you need doing with, say, the clone brush or healing tool, you're out of luck. However, if your needs are simple, its stack of high-end filters really shine.
There's a foolproof tilt-shift tool, for example, and a raft of vintage and vibrant colour tweaks, all easily accessed through Fotor's clever menu system. You can manually alter your own curves and levels, too, but without the complexity of high-end tools.
Fotor's standout function, and one that's sorely lacking in many free photo editors, is its batch processing tool â feed it a pile of pics and it'll filter the lot of them in one go, perfect if you have a memory card full of holiday snaps and need to cover up the results of a dodgy camera or shaky hand.
5. Photo Pos Pro
Advanced photo editing tools packaged in a simple interface
Beginner and advanced modes
Photo Pos Pro isn't as well known as Paint.net and GIMP, but it's another top-quality free photo editor that's packed with advanced image-enhancing tools.
How can the answer be improved? How to rotate text in word for mac.
This free photo editor's interface is smarter and more accessible than GIMP's array of menus and toolbars, with everything arranged in a logical and consistent way. If it's still too intimidating, there's also an optional 'novice' layout that resembles Fotor's filter-based approach. The choice is yours.
The 'expert' layout offers both layers and layer masks for sophisticated editing, as well as tools for adjusting curves and levels manually. You can still access the one-click filters via the main menu, but the focus is much more on fine editing.
6. Paint.NET
Looking a little dated, but still a dependable all-rounder
Plugin support
More is not, believe it or not, always better. Paint.NET's simplicity is one of its main selling points; it's a quick, easy to operate free photo editor that's ideal for trivial tasks that don't necessarily justify the sheer power of tools like GIMP.
Don't let the name fool you, though. This isn't just a cheap copy of Microsoft's ultra-basic Paint â even if it was originally meant to replace it. It's a proper photo editor, just one that lands on the basic side of the curve.
Paint.NETâs interface will remind you of its namesake, but over the years, theyâve added advanced editing tools like layers, an undo history, a ton of filters, myriad community-created plugins, and a brilliant 3D rotate/zoom function that's handy for recomposing images.
7. PhotoScape
Raw image conversion, batch processing and much more
Great selection of filters
PhotoScape might look like a rather simple free photo editor, but take a look at its main menu and you'll find a wealth of features: raw conversion, photo splitting and merging, animated GIF creation, and even a rather odd (but useful) function with which you can print lined, graph or sheet music paper.
The meat, of course, is in the photo editing. PhotoScape's interface is among the most esoteric of all the apps we've looked at here, with tools grouped into pages in odd configurations. It certainly doesn't attempt to ape Photoshop, and includes fewer features.
Best Free Text Editors For Mac
We'd definitely point this towards the beginner, but that doesn't mean you can't get some solid results. PhotoScape's filters are pretty advanced, so it's if good choice if you need to quickly level, sharpen or add mild filtering to pictures in a snap.
8. Pixlr X
A comprehensive browser-based photo editor for quick results
Stylish design
Pixlr X is the successor to Pixlr Editor, which was one of our favorite free online photo editors for many years.
Pixlr X makes several improvements on its predecessor. For starters, it's based on HTML5 rather than Flash, which means it can run in any modern browser. It's also slick and well designed, with an interface that's reminiscent of Photoshop Express, and a choice of dark or light color schemes.
With Pixlr X, you can make fine changes to colors and saturation, sharpen and blur images, apply vignette effects and frames, and combine multiple images. There's also support for layers, which you won't find in many free online photo editors, and an array of tools for painting and drawing. A great choice for even advanced tasks.
9. Adobe Photoshop Express Editor
A convenient way to correct lighting and exposure problems
Stylish design
As its name suggests, Adobe Photoshop Express Editor is a trimmed-down, browser-based version of the company's world-leading photo editing software. Perhaps surprisingly, it features a more extensive toolkit than the downloadable Photoshop Express app, but it only supports images in JPG format that are below 16MB.
Again, this is a Flash-based tool, but Adobe provides handy mobile apps for all platforms so you wonât miss out if youâre using a smartphone or tablet.
This free online photo editor has all the panache youâd expect from Adobe, and although it doesnât boast quite as many tools as some of its rivals, everything thatâs there is polished to perfection. Adobe Photoshop Express Editor is a pleasure to use. Its only drawbacks are the limits on uploaded file size and types, and lack of support for layers.
10. PiZap
Free Text Editor For Macbook
A fun photo editor for preparing your pictures for social media
Free Text Editors Online
Templates for social media
Free online photo editor PiZap is available in both HTML5 and Flash editions, making it suitable for any device. You can choose to work with a photo from your hard drive, Facebook, Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Search, or a catalog of stock images. This is an impressive choice, though some of the stock images are only available to premium subscribers, and you'll need to watch out for copyright issues if you use a pic straight from Google Images.
piZapâs editing interface has a dark, modern design that makes heavy use of sliders for quick adjustments â a system that works much better than tricky icons and drop-down menus if youâre using a touchscreen device.
When youâre done, you can share your creation on all the biggest social media networks, as well as piZapâs own servers, Dropbox and Google Drive. Alternatively, you can save it to your hard drive, send it via email, or grab an embed code. You can only export your work in high quality if youâve opened your wallet for the premium editor, but for silly social sharing thatâs unlikely to be a problem.

A good word processor is one of the few pieces of software you simply can't live without. You might be able to manage without a spreadsheet tool or something for making slideshows, but text documents are unavoidable. Thankfully, you don't need to splash out on a full Microsoft Office subscription; there are some superb word processors available to download and use completely free.
Here weâre looking at the very best word processors that can be used offline (particularly useful for distraction-free writing), but there are also several excellent browser-based tools to consider if you'd rather do your writing online.
Google Docs is the most obvious choice, and has the advantage of saving your work automatically so you donât have to worry if your connection fails. Itâs also a good choice for collaborative working, and means you donât have to upload work to a separate cloud storage service. However, it has a limited selection of templates, thereâs no way to import content from other Google applications, and any online tool is going to be surrounded by distractions like social media.
Best Text Editors for macOS. Note: In this article, we are focusing on the best text editors for coding but if you are looking for a text editor for your writing purposes, you can check out our article on the best writing apps for Mac. Sublime Text 3. Sublime Text is probably one of the most famous text editors available for Mac and for all the right reasons. TextEdit is the default text editor in macOS, and itâs just as barebones as the default text editor in Windows, Notepad. Naturally, many Mac users sooner or later look for an alternative, and they often stumble upon Notepad++.
If you'd prefer an offline word processor, read on â the perfect one is only a click away.
1. WPS Office Free
A word processor with cloud storage and support for all text files
Interface almost identical to Word
Free cloud storage
If youâve used a modern version of Microsoft Word, thereâll be no learning curve when you switch to Writer â the word processing component of WPS Office Free.
This free word processor looks and behaves almost exactly like its premium counterpart, and even has its own equivalent of OneDrive, offering 1GB free cloud storage.
Its selection of pre-installed templates gives you everything you need for common document types, and you can easily create your own for bespoke tasks. Itâs compatible with every text file format you can think of, including current and legacy versions of Microsoft Word dating back to Office 97.
WPS Office Writer is supported by discrete ads, which can be removed by upgrading to the premium version, but theyâre barely noticeable and no features are locked behind a paywall. Overall, WPS Writer is very impressive, and in our opinion itâs the best free word processor available to download today.
WPS recently launched a free PDF to Word converter as well, which is a great companion to its word processor. Sublime text download.
2. LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice
All-singing, all-dancing word processors for any text-based work
Document template galleries
LibreOffice is a fork of Apache OpenOffice, and although there are some differences between the two suites (LibreOffice receives more frequent updates, for example, and has a more lively userbase), their word processing components are so similar, weâre listing them together.
Both versions of Writer are feature-packed analogs of Microsoft Word, packed with all the features you could possibly need for any text-based work.
The two versions of Writer include wizards and templates for common document types, such as invoices and letters, and itâs easy to create your own templates for future use as well. The word processors also work together with the other office software in their respective suites â so you can use Base to create a bibliography, for example.
Both word processors support all the most popular file formats, and can export documents to PDF without the need for additional software. If youâre looking for a word processor that can stand in for Microsoft Word, either of these two will be a perfect candidate.
3. FocusWriter
How to rotate text in word for mac. The ideal word processor for first drafts, with no fussy formatting
Blocks out distractions
Auto-save function
If you simply want to hammer out some words without worrying about formatting, you could just use Windowsâ built-in Notepad app, but FocusWriter is full of clever tools that will help you maximize productivity without ever getting in the way.
As the name implies, FocusWriter blocks out all distractions so you can give that all-important first draft your full attention. In normal use, all you see is a blank page â toolbars are only visible if you move your mouse pointer to the edge of the screen â but thereâs a killer feature in Focused Text, which fades everything into the background except the current paragraph or sentence.
FocusWriter also features alerts that are triggered at certain times, or when youâve reached a predefined word count, so you donât need to worry about watching a counter (as you would in Microsoft Word). This also makes FocusWriter a good tool to use in tandem with the Pomodoro Technique, which involves working hard for a period of time thatâs long enough for you to work productively, but not so long that you become fatigued.
However you can search the document or copy text from it (and on a Mac spotlight will index the document so you can find the document with a spotlight search). This is great if you want to scan paper documents and then destroy the paper. Photo text for mac. May 16, 2013Â Adding text to images is a fairly simple process to begin with that is made even easier with Preview, the basic image viewing app that is bundled on all Macs. To convert PDF images to text on Mac, you must consider two aspects: freeware or share & security issue. As I have mentioned you should use Google Docs to obtain text from PDF image. It really is free. Add Text to Photos with Preview App on Mac This built-in app is rarely the first choice for Mac users who want to add text to photos, but completing this task with Preview App is remarkably easy. Open the app and import the photo you want to edit, then make sure to click on the 'Show Edit Toolbar' icon and select the 'Text Tool' feature.
Textplus for computer. Itâs not suitable for editing, but for productivity, FocusWriter is hard to beat.
4. SoftMaker FreeOffice
Another great looking word processor, but watch your file formats
Can export to EPUB format
Text Editor For Mac
Opens password-protected files
TextMaker â the word processing element of SoftMaker FreeOffice â is good looking, and comes with several handy templates for creating letters and other everyday documents. The selection isnât as extensive as some of its rivalsâ, but you can also make new designs for future use and save them in TMV format.
All the features youâd expect from a modern word processor are present and correct, including advanced formatting options, the ability to create databases for managing bibliographies and footnotes, and a function for tracking changes to collaborative projects.
The only real drawback of TextMaker is its inability to save your work in DOCX format (though you can open and edit these files with no difficulty). This feature is limited to the premium version of SoftMaker Office, which retails for ÂŁ48.20 (about US$60, AU$75).
5. Writemonkey
Productivity-focused word processing with quick shortcuts
Distraction-free interface
Text Editor In Mac
Handy keyboard shortcuts
WriteMonkey is another no-frills word processor designed to help you maximize your output without fussing with editing and formatting. Itâs not intended for documents like letters or CVs, but is great for committing early ideas to paper (or screen) so you have the raw material to develop later.
Unlike FocusWriter, which is compatible with all the most common text formats (including Microsoftâs DOC and DOCX), WriteMonkey only works with TXT files, so youâll have to convert any works in progress before opening them. WriteMonkeyâs hidden controls are tricker to navigate, too â everything is accessed via a large right-click menu, or a vast collection of keyboard shortcuts.
That said, if youâre happy to commit those shortcuts to memory, youâll find WriteMonkey faster to use than toolbar-based alternatives.
We also like the ability to look words up in Wikipedia, Google Images, Poetry.com, Answers.com, and many others without opening a browser winder manually and leaving yourself open to the temptations of Twitter and Facebook.
Notepad For Mac
WriteMonkey is a portable app, so thereâs no need to install it â just extract all the downloaded files to a removable drive or cloud storage service and fire it up by running the file WriteMonkey.exe.

Can anyone share their experience with the 'copy text from picture' property please?
I did the following tests using OneNote for Mac v.15.8 on OS X v.10.10.3:
1. Created a PNG screenshot and dragged it into OneNote. The embedded image DID have the option of 'Copy Text from Picture'.
What is text edit app. Add Text to Photos with Preview App on Mac This built-in app is rarely the first choice for Mac users who want to add text to photos, but completing this task with Preview App is remarkably easy. 2. In OneNote I did 'Save As..' on that image, which saved it as a JPG on the Desktop.

..So the above worked as expected, although I did have to wait a minute or two before the option of 'Copy Text from Picture' appeared. I don't know the reason you're seeing different results.
Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.
Great! Thanks for marking this as the answer.
How satisfied are you with this reply?
Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site.
How satisfied are you with this response?
Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks AlancitoXV,
I currently work with OSX Yosemite Ver10.10.3, Onenote Ver 15.8 150301,
created PNG screenshot of your reply (so it's text-based), and then dragged it from my desktop into Onenote, but the embedded image DID NOT have the option of 'Copy Text from Picture'.
I also Saved to my desktop as PNG (one time) and as JPEG (another time) a picture from my friend's notebook (which he shared with me), that had the 'Copy Text from Picture' option, and then dragged it back into Onenote, but in both cases the picture lost its ability for 'Copy Text from Picture'.
I would appreciate if anyone in Microsoft would be able to address this disparity. Seems like my Onenote is capable of 'Copy Text from Picture' only for some pictures but not for others.
I am wondering if there's a certain role.
Thanks a lot!
Roy

I've tried this action in another Mac of mine (laptop at home, instead my desktop at work) - and brilliantly, the 'copy text from picture' became active! .. (which is basically good news for my laptop, but sort of bad news for my desktop. ) - seems like there might be some platform incompatibility issues on some machines. Roy
