Regeneration and reuse of urban landscapes, the creative reuse of what is old and what seems to have outlived its utility is something we ought to cherish because it is often very sustainable. Such creative reuse also serves the purpose of exposing layers of history, making our cities more meaningful and strengthening their identities.
The goal of sustainability seems to be like a mirage that moves away every time we step towards it. The only way forward is to try harder than ever before to work towards attaining environmental, social and economic sustainability for all. The stakes for not trying to achieve this will be very high indeed.
