Packaging Production
week 6 13 September
The wrapping material around a customer item containing, identifying, describingprotecting, displaying, promoting and otherwise making the product marketable and tidy.
Learning of packaging production is that sort of translation of digital artwork in to manufacturing things. How it conceivable of putting ink on a paper and the challenge involved in that, which is -- it's an interesting thing for me when things were conventional, and everything became digital to now where all your prepress is digital. And so, we really understood how things happened conventionally from creating the artwork to making the plates to getting it on the paper.
Digital will not substitute analog entirely but will provide the flexibility needed for shorter manufacturing runs driven by fresh trends such as customisation, safety and traceability.
With fresh retail formats (especially e-commerce) developing rapidly, the box distribution system is becoming more complicated and the manufacturing of packaging needs to be done differently and more quickly with more efficient and versatile machines while providing the best value. Brand owners use packaging to distinguish themselves on the shelf and attract clients. So, it’s very important to know about the product first and then came with the solution how we need to protect that product throughout the packaging design.
An excellent instance is the Chai Cream Liquor, a product called Voyant, and its actually silk screen, how it's made. And there are several reasons why it had to be produced because it is primarily a cream liqueur, it cannot be in a transparent glass container because after a while the UV light destroys the item. So, it has to be opaque in something
So we have a few choices on how to solve design in terms of putting something in an opaque container and we really wanted to create something dramatic with different looks than a lot of things out there because it's a brand new start-up company, they don't have a lot of advertising cash.
The importance of "shelf appeal" cannot be underestimated. With a staggering 70% of all in-store buying choices taken, your packaging is often the first thing to attract buyers on the shelf to your product. It is also a vehicle for your product data, telling your potential client what the product is about.
Another learning of packaging production process design solution material size and different printing process according to design and clients demands.
My learning about packaging production is to create a digital artwork in to manufacture thing that tells the brand story, describe, protect the product, and make the product marketable and clean.

Sustainable Packaging overview, reflection on global markets video
week 5 8 September After learning and discovering week by week reading watching videos, now it's time to research and find out what is sustainable packaging meaning. The packaging is produced responsibly, intended to be efficient and secure throughout its life cycle, meets market efficiency and price requirements, is produced completely using renewable energy and, once used, is effectively recycled to provide a precious resource for generations to come.
In short: for all packaging products a real closed loop system.watching the videos about Eco friendly packaging, materials and manufacturing for global marketing. I found that the Sustainable Packaging Coalition's task is to use comprehensive research and science-based methods to assist advance and communicate a favourable, robust packaging environment vision and to support innovative, functional packaging products and technologies that encourage financial and environmental health.
Sustainable packaging is described by the World Commission on Environment and Development as: "Developments that fulfill the requirements of the present without jeopardising the capacity of future generations to satisfy their own requirements" (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987). Sustainable packaging can only be sustainable if it is at the final point of the design process. The criteria described here combine wide sustainability and industrial ecology goals with company factors and strategies addressing environmental concerns linked to packaging's life cycle.
These criteria relate to the packaging value chain operations and identify the regions where we are actively seeking to foster conversion, innovation and optimisation. I think that in a scheme that is economically robust and offers benefits throughout its life cycle, packaging can be converted into a closed loop stream of packaging products by effectively addressing these requirements. So my learning and research toward sustainable packaging is.
A. Is useful, secure and healthy throughout its life cycle
B for people and groups. Meets efficiency and price market requirements
C. Is obtained, produced, transported and recycled using
D. renewable energy. Optimizes the use of recycled or renewable sources
E. Is produced using technology and best practices for clean manufacturing
F. Is produced of good materials throughout the entire life cycle
G. Is intended physically to optimize materials and energy
H. Is retrieved efficiently and used in closed loop cycles in biological and/or industrial applications
While sustainability is progressively a concern for customers when making buying choices, with packaging often key to the visual attraction of a product to buyers, many companies still need to give sufficient priority to sustainability and circularity when considering the design, use and disposal of packaging, with most packaging still being single-use and non-recyclable.
However, there are constraints to recyclable packaging. Collecting packaging at the end of a product’s useful life in order to kick-start the recycling process is one of the biggest barriers for organizations, especially for consumer goods firms whose products are used every day by millions of individuals around the globe.
My next step to research and find out who is making them and why.So Consumers are often unaware of how to take the additional measures necessary for recycling or returning packaging products, such as bottles and cans, or reluctant to alter habits as there is no clear advantage to this. In addition, the systems often do not support the recycling process- According to the US-based UPS / GreenBiz Research Study, the logistical expense of reclaiming used products is the second major obstacle for companies to implement circular economy policies.
Some business organizations, recognized by the award program. The Circulars for their leadership in the circular economy, I have approached this topical issue from a different angle, creating packaging solutions that harness unique circular material inputs.Ecovative Design has created a technology that produces biodegradable packaging using mushroom roots with the same quality standards as typical plastic and foam packaging. For a subset of their products, multinationals like IKEA and Dell are already using Ecovative’s packaging.Other companies use crowdsourcing concepts from a wide crowd of bright minds to tackle packaging problems. AB InBev, a multinational brewer, has introduced the 100 + Accelerator program through which they work with entrepreneurs to develop alternatives to assist them achieve their own sustainability objectives.
Like their goal for circular packaging. In parallel, through financing and mentoring, AB InBev supports these entrepreneurs in scaling up their sustainable technologies. Do Eat, which produces 100% edible and creative packaging containers, is one of the 21 initial start-ups chosen to participate in the programme. AB InBev will work with each of the start-ups to implement and scale their solutions,InBev and its associates throughout the AB company.
Lastly, the cleaning products business Method provides refill pouches for hand washing, washing detergent and washing-up liquid refillable products and 8 x focused formulas to decrease the quantity of packaging required at the beginning.Together with the chance to leverage brand authority to change consumer behavior, the competitive advantage to be acquired makes convincing arguments that encourage all sectors to enter the packaging revolution.
Certainly, as we rely on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its technological developments, the time has come for industry to align itself with this urgent global challenge and forge ahead new reality together through ambitious goals and on-scale innovations. This paper which includes my research and discovering about sustainable packaging material and manufacturing which will help to design and make sustainable commercial packaging solution for my chosen local artist visited on week 2.

Redesign challenge process
Week 4 31 August
Mood board
Identify the Problem
To redesign the paint brush redesign challenge first need to find the design problem. Then I came with the idea to redesign the paint brush challenge which was interesting and challenging.
when I looked up the product I found that there was no brand identity on this product and typography error and need to find solution for this redesign I started making sketching which help me a lot to find the solution. Then the mood board which also help a lot to apply the colours and font for this redesign challenge.
its very important brand communications involve various verbal, auditory and non-verbal images, used both to capture and hold consumers’ attention and to serve as retrieval cues for later recall. These elements can relate to the brand identity in a meaningful way, or they can be unrelated. By far, the most extensively investigated elements are advertising and pricing. In contrast, product packaging as a marketing communications vehicle for brand managers is just starting to receive attention in marketing research (Underwood & Klein, 2002)
SKETCHING

Visual Elements Graphics & Colours:
During this redesign process I also learned how the graphics and colours are very important for a product packaging design. The implication of graphics is explained by the images created on the product. Graphics designs are visual presentations which include layout, colour combinations, typography, and product photography all of which create a positive and distinctive image. For consumers, the package is the product, and different consumers respond to different packages in different ways depending on their involvement level (Silayoi & Speece, 2004)
Its was also great learning experience for me which will help to design a perfect packaging solution in future and my upcoming assignments.

Local Designers
week 2 18 August
I visited a flower shop at our local Mall. When I entered shop and start looking beautiful flowers arrangement of shop and they were selling flower bouquet or different occasions like birthday parties, weddings, etc.
The store setup was extremely organised with their flower arrangements and point of sale display lot of little flowers boxes and buckets.
Then I found on the shop display they have logo and I tried to discover their brand history, when they started this business and What kind of packaging they are using. So I can discover and find the solution for the commercial packaging.
Brand history
Formed in 2003, Abelia Florist is a family owned business that brings together over 35 years of retail and floristry experience. Abelia Florist opened its doors at Bonnyrigg Plaza in 2003. They now selling online and accepting payments and delivery to the customers.
Abelia Florist offers a variety of fresh and artificial flowers, fruit and gourmet hampers, gift baskets consisting of wine, champagne, beer and much much more. They also stock a large variety of soft toys, chocolates and balloons.
There were lots of beautiful flowers and candles get my attention so I decided to design packaging solution for them because they also using blank packaging and put their brand sticker on it.
My journey to learn about brand history and how products packaging design communication is very important for consumers. After my research I found that a growing body of research demonstrates that customers are unconsciously influenced by subtle cues in store environments. Although research has extensively addressed the effects of retail atmospherics such as scents, displays and sounds on consumer behaviour (Turley & Milliman, 2000)
When I noticed the have no perfect packaging design. It's also interesting and challenging for me to design a packaging design solution for them with their brand identity. So the effect of packaging design on consumer behaviour has only recently started to receive substantial attention. This is striking, as brands are able to reach consumers through product packaging when the iron is hot – at the point of sale. Furthermore, packaging design contributes to brand identity and brand equity, especially for low involvement, non durable products such as food (Underwood, 2003).
During this visit of local artist shop to discover all aspects of brand and packaging design. I learned by visiting physically and also through the research why is brand identity and packaging design communication is very important for consumer point of view.
I must say a number of recent studies suggest how isolated packaging cues affect perceptions and expectations of several product attributes, such as effects of packaging colour and value on quality (e.g., Ampuero & Vila, 2006), packaging shape on flavour (e.g., Becker, van Rompay, Schifferstein, & Galetzka, 2011), and packaging shape on healthiness inferences (Van Ooijen, Fransen, Verlegh, & Smit, 2017).
I decided to design a packaging solution for them and come up with the idea to provide than a sustainable packaging solution with their brand on it.

Packaging
I learned packaging relates to all operations linked to the design, evaluation and manufacture of a product container. Simply, it is called the box-like container in which the item is stored to safeguard it from any physical harm and at the same moment attracting the client through its attraction. After the research about my packaging design and communication unit.
I found that some items may have three packaging layers, such as a toothpaste in the plastic tube (main package), then it is placed in a cardboard box (secondary package) and lastly placed in a corrugated box (shipping or third package). The packaging is not currently restricted to the protection of a product alone, but has been used as a marketing tool to build brand equity and boost sales. So my learning about when I start discovering the history of packing first week reading about the history of the packaging. Why we need packing so its was a great learning experience to know packaging play an important role.
The packaging protects the products and stops them and the energy, water and materials used to make them from going to waste. In the case of food and drink items, packaging continues to protect the items once they are in the home and can extend the period when they are safe to eat and at their best.
Packaging also allows packs to be resealed if all the contents are not needed in one go and well designed food packaging can stop moisture loss from items such as root vegetables and cucumbers which helps to keep them fresh for much longer.
Packaging plays an essential role in protecting and containing the products we buy until they reach our homes. It also provides us with important product information about nutrition and storage for example.
.In today's situation, most businesses use packaging as a significant marketing tool due to the following variables: packaging allows self-service, as in the event of purchases made in supermarkets and retail mart, clients pick the products on their own without retailer help.
The business must design its product package in such a manner that it is sufficiently capable of attracting customer attention. It helps to increase the customer wealth, which implies that clients are prepared to pay even more for the comfort, appearance, and reliability of the better packages.
Third part was what the purpose of packaging design. My learning experience toward packaging design is packages assist to increase customer brand recognition. They can immediately relate it to the business or brand as quickly as the clients see the package. For instance, the Taj Mahal Tea from the Brooke Bond comes in the blue pack with a Taj Mahal image on its box; this gives the brand identity.
Innovative packaging also contributes to the company's enormous revenues and advantages. Here the firm provides its product package a distinctive design with the intention of capturing the attention of the customer.
For instance, the calcium Sandoz bottles targeting children and women were intended to create them appealing to the target group (a dog-shaped bottle for children, while a lady-shaped female bottle).
The packaging can thus influence a buyer to start sales as the customer first comes into touch with the package and then with the item afterwards.
First week reading and learning toward packaging design and communication, it was a great experience for me to learn about design a packaging solution for commercial and experimental assignments.
