Good point. I was more pointing to the idea that Fowler was probably thinking he won the lottery by having two perfect killer machines under his beck and call, bereft of any outside entanglements or drama that could shift their focus away work 24/7--only for them to build the most convoluted relationships with their assigned handlers, one after the other, haha.
Fowler is probably thinking 'This is why we can't have nice things.'
Sometimes I think about how Fowler, during lulls in the rush hour of the days, thinks of how did he get so lucky to have the two most proficient androids created to work for him, but one became his Lieutenant's son??? and the other is his most hot-headed detective's boyfriend despite very clearly-stipulated work place ethics.
Tumblr media
Maybe it's a series defect thing...

So I saw this on the reed900 tag here and decided to give it a look cause I liked the summary. I wanted to let you know that I'm loving it, I'm intrigued and captivated already. I read a lot of serious, loong fics with action, adventure, drama and explicitness, so I don't have any soft reed900 like this one on my radar. I just finished a similar soft fic a few weeks ago which I loved (and many others apparently) so I'm glad I discovered a new one.
Also, loved the premise. Sometimes I think about small things like that that could make a cute, slice of life reed900 story. Something about a quirk, a habit, a happening that would trigger a chain of event - this one about Gavin's smoking addiction is so good. I think it's also because it reminds of my favorite fic in this fandom and a certain dialogue about RK900 disliking Gavin's smoking habit 'cause he judges potential partners by their longevity (Another thing that went straight to my hc bank).
And to add the icing on it top, just came across this on pinterest. Now I thought I saw all the chibi genre of reed900 this artist seafoodbf made (and I have reed900 stuff on pinterest on the daily) - that's why I found it absolutely wild that I just come across this new one I never saw right when I finished reading your fic!!
Tumblr media
my reed900/g9 fic (7.4k words, ch 1/?) "patterns of addiction" is up!
Tumblr media
And here's a cheeky sneak peak!
"Good morning, Detective Reed," RK900 says, a faint thread of surprise in his tone. He doesn't need to look at an imaginary watch to convey how unusual his partner's uncharacteristically prompt arrival is.
Androids always know what goddamn time it is.
"Good morning, dipshit," Reed grumbles, prodding the spacebar of his terminal's keyboard to wake his work computer with more force than necessary.
RK900 holds a can of thirium in one hand, like he'd been about to take a sip when Reed arrived. Instead of following through with the motion, though, it hovers there with rare indecision before he slowly returns it to his desk. His piercing blue eyes never leave Reed. Reed does not dignify his staring with a response as his computer takes its sweet fucking time waking up.
"... You're early," RK900 says, unnecessarily.
Like they both don't fucking know it.
"I see your eyes are still working, Captain Obvious," Reed snipes.
"I appreciate the promotion," RK900 drolls, "but I intended the observation to serve as a segue to conversation."
Reed throws him a look of skeptical disinterest. "Yeah? Just my luck that today would be the day you realize you actually like small talk," he grouses. Say what you will about his plastic partner—and Reed has said plenty—but historically, RK900 always gave the impression that he would rather stand in an open field in a lightning storm than suffer more than ten seconds around a watercooler exchanging mindless pleasantries.
It's one of the few things they agreed on from the very beginning.
RK900's unnerving gaze releases its hold on Reed at last as he turns his attention back to his computer, and Reed thinks that's the end of it as the android types something into his console—one of his partner's unusual quirks. Connor had no compunctions interfacing with his work computer directly. It's the kind of thing Reed would expect RK900 to deride as inefficient, a waste of time, a waste of resources. No one has ever gotten a straight answer from him about why he does it, and Reed has never asked.
Reed turns his heavy gaze back to his own uncooperative device and sees that it's installing mandatory updates.
Just his luck.
"Has some other misfortune befallen you today that I should know about?"
Reed narrows his eyes across their shared workspace. "... What?"
RK900 types a bit more, lightning-fast and precise, before resting his fingers on the homing keys and returning his gaze. Reed knows for a fact that he doesn't need to stop typing when he's looking away from the screen, because he's seen RK900 stare people down when they come to his desk to bother him and just keep on typing, purely to demonstrate just how little he thinks of what's coming out of their mouth.
The fact that RK900 is refraining from doing so now suggests Reed has his undivided attention.
"Did something happen this morning," RK900 asks in clarification, "that would render minor inconveniences more intolerable than usual?" He glances pointedly over Reed's head at the clock on the far wall of the bullpen. "... Something that would explain your early arrival, perhaps?"
"I know you don't need to look at the clock, asshole."
"But it gets the point across, doesn't it?"
Reed doesn't usually offer RK900 much to work with in the plastic prick's infrequent attempts at making conversation. But today he feels like bitching, so instead of telling him exactly where he can stick his curiosity, he grouses, "Smoke pit's closed," around the lip of his thermos.
A dark look comes over RK900’s face that Reed has never seen on him before. He almost looks—angry. It's not a far cry from the stone-cold look he gets when they're about to interrogate a particularly difficult suspect. But with just an edge of actual investment in the outcome.
Almost like this time, it's personal.
Reed sneers, readier than ever to argue about his bad habit on a day where he can't even indulge it. RK900 had made a few pointed comments about Reed's smoking at the beginning of their partnership, in point of fact, and Reed had wasted no time telling him just where he could stick his shitty little smoking cessation subroutine if he wanted to continue their department-mandated partnership as anything more than Reed's glorified ash tray.
That threat had evidently been effective enough to discourage the bot from ever bringing it up again. Whenever Reed smoked in his presence after that, he acted like he couldn't even see Reed doing it.
But if RK900 thinks now is the moment to revisit that point of contention shelved months ago, Reed is more than ready to adjust his expectations a little more thoroughly the second time around.
But RK900 only asks, "What for?"
Reed lifts his eyes ceilingward in exasperated remembrance. "Change in policy," he joylessly reports. "No smoking within thirty feet of the building."
A small wrinkle appears between RK900's brows. He lifts his hand in a gesture Reed doesn't immediately recognize, until—wonder of wonders—the bot touches his terminal screen to interface with it.
He never does that.
His LED spins once, twice. Then he says, "I don't see any policy updates in my work email."
"... Higher doesn't always bother to announce things like that," Reed reasons.
"Then how is anyone meant to know?" RK900 argues.
Reed winks with a humorless smile. "That's how they getcha'."
RK900 scoffs, "That's entrapment."
"We're cops," Reed rejoinders. "That's kind of what we do." RK900 makes no response to this but to purse his lips, and Reed finds himself pointing out, "Y'know, a particularly litigious defense attorney might say your stunt in the interrogation room last week constituted 'entrapment'..."
"Fortunately for us, they waived their right to an attorney," RK900 quickly replies, "so I suppose we'll never know, now will we?"
"Guess not," Reed snorts, watching with idle interest as RK900's fingertips glow white-blue with data flow, perched upon his terminal screen.
RK900's brow twitches again. "... I'm also not seeing anything but the old smoking policy on record in the DPD's internal servers."
"Huh," says Reed. "Guess it's languishing in someone's email inbox, then," he mutters with no small amount of bitterness. If he'd known that, he might have pushed his luck and gone for a smoke anyway. But a quick glance over his shoulder at the clock that looms over the bullpen like the unmerciful god of the night shift tells Reed he doesn't have time.
RK900 pulls his hand away from his work terminal. His artificial skin crawls back over his fingertips, concealing his snow white chassis once more from view.
It's strange, actually. Reed has seen Connor interface with anything and everything, but for whatever reason, RK900 doesn't even interface with his own damn cell phone. Not where Reed can see him doing it, anyway. It's gotten to the point that he's sure it's a deliberate choice on RK900's part, so seeing it after all this time feels almost—immodest, somehow. Like an exposed Victorian ankle.
RK900 folds those long fingers elegantly atop his desk as he leans back slightly in his chair, staring at his work terminal in thought. "How did you come to hear of this policy change, Detective Reed?"
Reed has no idea why RK900 is pursuing this line of questioning. It might be their longest conversation unrelated to a case since their ill-fated partnership began. He knows why he's entertaining it: because he's pissed off about it, and he wants to bitch about it.
But he can't figure out why RK900 gives a damn.
"Someone posted up the memo on the bus stop," he grumbles. And in the spirit of collaboration, he lifts his coffee mug to his mouth and adds, "... It was dated for this past Saturday."
"And was it signed?" RK900 promptly follows up.
Reed slowly lowers his thermos. "... What?"
"Was the memo signed?" RK900 presses. "Every memorandum on department policy requires a signature from the approving authority before it can be disseminated and, consequently, enforced. So, detective?" He leans forward on his desk, that unerring icy gaze affixed to Reed's like he's gunning for a criminal confession.
It feels a little like staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.
A shiver crawls up Reed's spine as RK900 clandestinely inquires, "Was it signed... or not?"
Reed tries to remember—but the details are hazy. He's still tired, and he was waiting all morning for that goddamn nicotine hit, so upon discovering the memo in the dim of twilight his vision had narrowed and gone seething red, and he—
He doesn't remember.
"... I was a little distracted at the time," Reed grudgingly replies.
"With what?"
Too embarrassed to admit that disappointment this early in the morning can hit him hard enough to give him tunnel vision, Reed grimaces as he casts around his memory for an answer, like a fisherman casting a hopeless line.
Until he remembers he has one.
"... There was holo-tape across the front of the bus stop," he recalls. "'Do not cross'," he needlessly elaborates with a humorless snort.
RK900 leans back, his brows lifting at this information like it's surprising somehow. Then his lip curls—almost like he can't quite help himself. "I'm surprised to hear you admit to such learned helplessness, detective," he wryly quips. "You're hardly an android."
Reed scowls. "It pissed me off, alright? I took time out of my day for that!"
"... So you could arrive three minutes late as usual," RK900 murmurs, sounding oddly thoughtful.
Reed ignores that snide little aside as he folds his arms and throws a glare across the bullpen. "So fucking sue me for being distracted.
The silence between them is tense, interrupted ironically by the ticking of the station clock, and all the other hustle and bustle of people arriving and wrapping up their work in anticipation of the impending shift brief. In the corner of his vision, Reed sees RK900's LED spin and flicker, throwing thoughtful light on the screen of his work terminal.
RK900 takes a deep breath and lets out a measured exhale, like he's arrived at some kind of decision. Reed turns his gaze sharply back at his partner. He's most surprised by the sheer neutrality in his expression when their eyes meet again.
"Holo-tape is meant to secure crime scenes. It is a flagrant misuse of department resources to use it to enforce policy—particularly policy which hasn't yet been properly disseminated."
Reed feels strangely vindicated to hear his partner agreeing with him about something so inane. "... Yeah, well, take it up with whoever put it there, I guess," he says. He’d like to know who it was, too—even if he can’t do anything about it but mean mug them all day. He takes a sip of his coffee, hoping the caffeine will make up the difference in the absence of his preferred vice.
It’s not quite the same without the tobacco and menthol clinging to his teeth.
"Perhaps I will," RK900 says, standing from his chair so quickly it rolls away from him. Reed tracks the movement with his eyes, bewildered. "Detective Collins is on his way back from a crime scene. Captain Fowler won't begin the shift brief without him, so we have time. Are you clocked in?"
"... No?" Reed says slowly, wondering what RK900 is getting at. He hasn’t even logged into his computer yet.
RK900’s LED spins briefly yellow. "You are now. If you would be so kind as to escort me to the ‘crime scene’, then perhaps we can both satisfy our curiosity."
... Well, what the hell. If he can’t get his morning dose of nicotine, a heaping helping of spite might be just what he needs to make it through the day—at least until he can grab a smoke on his lunch break.
Reed lifts his hands like he's agreeing to a thankless task against his will. But mutiny and mischief commingle with curiosity for just what his ordinarily unopinionated partner has planned.
"If you insist."

Reed900 but instead of Nines being a good influence on Gavin, he’s a TERRIBLE influence and they both become the office menaces working inseparably, causing chaos and violence as they feed off each others shared energy, with Nines helping to cover their tracks
(Yes you are more than welcome to use this- please @ me so I can see, if you do!)

My hc is that Connor annoys Nines, too and for reasons that are, interestingly enough, not at all different from Gavin's. The common one they bond over is their annoyance at Connor's 'I want to become a real boy' cloying act, which Gavin finds fake and gay (joke's on him), and Nines plain foolish.
As much as like their dynamic to be brotherly, I see it quite 'layered'. I like to imagine their dynamic as brotherly yes, but more initiated by Connor who took to calling RK900 'brother' and who was more enthusiastic about the idea of having a sibling the way humans do, while RK900, who doesn't feel the need to adapt nor pander to human ways and manners - as he view his kind superior anyway - find the whole act absurd and barely entertain the other android's foibles. He rarely calls him brother back and reminds him that it's an absurd notion, but he let it slide most of the time, humoring Connor when he's in a good mood and biting back the label when irked by 'said brother'. Nevertheless, deep down, he embraces it as it soothes him to have something as meaningful other than his relationship with Gavin.
Connor often irk him just like any 'big brother' would do, and there's still this deep-rooted envy or jealousy that Connor has everything Nines still struggles with. But it's okay because he still finds meaning in it, like Connor is his annoying emotional backup system.
To sum up:
Connor : "We share a model line and we look alike so we could be like twin brothers! :D”
Nines, side-eying the whole concept like, “You’re lucky I tolerate you, human-wannabe.”
I realize I kinda lost the plot here but yeah, Gavin and Nines definetly bonds over their shared '
Gavin and Nines teaming up to mess with Connor will never not make me laugh.

the reason "robot racism" is often a really stupid metaphor is the same reason that like. discrimination against demons or vampires or whatever doesn't work, is because there's often a pretty justified reasons humans are scared of vampires or robots or whatever, in a way that doesn't apply to real life minorities, like a fantasy author will be like "the reason vampires are discriminated against is because most of them and kill and eat people for fun and pleasure, and so humans respond by trying to kill them, isn't that so sad" and like no that's a perfectly fine reason to not trust vampires i think.

Nines: I don’t really tell Gavin I love him I just look him deep in his eyes and say stuff like “If You Willed It, I Would Kill In Your Name."
Connor: And how does that work out for you?
Nines: Surprisingly well. Usually we end the night in bed together.

They prospered better than almost all the main characters from the game. Got to live thousands adventures and their characters deepened to its full potential through fictions and comics and even real life movies lol.
I mean, would be interesting to see the devs faces if we told them Gavin and the freaking RK900??? are mostly who continue to keep the franchise alive as the years go by~
It will never not amaze me how two characters we're not supposed to give a shit about are not only very popular (in the top 5) but also form the second most popular pairing in the fandom.

I saw ur recommendation of “unofficial” under a post and I read it and it was super good! Do you know of any other fics that are similar? Or just any reed900 fics you like in general? I trust ur judgement
Hi there! I'm glad you also enjoyed it, haha! So I don't know if I know anything similar, but since you trust my judgment, I guess I can share with you my top favorites in this fandom (so far)
Going by plotline and story first
my number one favorite in this fandom : Charon : https://archiveofourown.org/works/15785481/chapters/36729093 One of my first reads in this fandom and still unbeatable to this day. Peerless in its emotions and sizzling hot (in my humble opinion) The good news, it has a sequel, too, so you won't suffer immediate withdrawal, the bad news, it's not finished (but it's okay, you can do like me and stretch on the last chapter by reading other things as much as you can :) (what do you mean I'm crazy!)
this one took me by complete surprise and I almost never gave it a chance due to the way RK900 is called in it. But it played with an idea I yearned to see of an undercover RK900 sent to undermine Connor after what he did, so I gave it a chance and just the setting of the first chapter got me intrigued and by the second chapter, it felt like reading a Micheal Bay movie script. Amazing plot. In fact so amazing, that after I realizing one of the author's other works is Gavin's POV of the same story, I decided to alternate the two works simultaniously, because I knew that if I went until the end, I won't feel the same need to pick it up again from the start knowing the ending. Sounds insane I know, but that's how much it was worth it. (it also got the super machine-like RK900 vibes of Unoffical) : https://archiveofourown.org/series/1115790
Now the more normal stories : I must warn you, they're all explicit, Unofficial was actually one of the rarest soft Reed900 I've read so far.
number one forevermore for me and from the same author as Charon : Camaro : https://archiveofourown.org/works/24849085/chapters/60112483 (because just when I was wondering about how hot Reed900 would look doing it in a car, she delivered the hottest thing ever and seasoned it with scenic plot because that's how your number 1 dbh author do it.)
Fault Lines : https://archiveofourown.org/works/47857555 (so, so lovely~)
Now this one might be the closest thing to Unofficial for it has a great machine-like introspection onto our favorite detective from Nines). You can even consider it a sequel or spin off if Unofficial continued to the bedroom, haha : https://archiveofourown.org/works/21270806/chapters/50643944
I'll finish with this one I guess, because it was a very unexpected enjoyement but it did because rare are the fics that put so much time and description into Gavin's physique. I'll leave it at that ;) : https://archiveofourown.org/works/16711747/chapters/39195919
I feel like dropping these two last ones that I have as 'marked for later', so I haven't gotten around to start it yet, but judging from the synopsis and lenght, they might turn out as part of the kickass plotline. So I'll share them, too in case you get around it first and they turn out good~ https://archiveofourown.org/works/65454280/chapters/168464305 and https://archiveofourown.org/works/15841110/chapters/36890817
Hope you find it enjoyable ^^

You know, I kinda dig the idea of Nines not being a big talker because we've seen that Connor talking to much gives Gavin the shits so maybe Gavin and Nines' communication would be easier if Nines only speaks when he needs to and no more than that.
Until Gavin eventually gets the shits that he's not talking enough and wants Nines to talk and Nines asks "so you hate it when Connor talks but want me to talk more, even though our voices are similar?"
Gavin goes slient, blushes a little and says in a quiet voice "your voice is better than his"
And then from that day on, Nines talks when he wants to, not just when he needs to.

Rating the Demigods based off their Homes
Tumblr media
Technically Leyndell is not Morgotts house but his moms, which he inherited after escaping the sewers she threw him into, but he also runs the place like the navy runs a ship, so everything is in perfect working order. Nobody has any clue who he is and I appreciate his commitment to the bit. 8/10 really cool scenery but could definitely use some dusting and giant dragon corpse removal.
Tumblr media
The Moghwyn Dynasty is every health inspectors worst nightmare. General unsanitary setting and blood swamps, Albinaurics captured and forced to assimilate against their will, along with several war medics, and also Mohg has the body of his shriveled up half-brother in his freezer. But overall the ancient civilization that lived here before Mohg had pretty okay taste, especially since they built their city under an underground starry sky. 10/10 but only because the health inspector died and Mohg forged the health report.
Tumblr media
Godrick snuck in after his failings at the Shattering and just straight up claimed the place as his own, so Stormveil technically isn't even his house. Also his presence alone is so rank that thorns have started festering outside of the castle. 8/10 to the Stormlords cause they've got sick sense of style, but 2/10 to Godrick because he is a literal home invader.
Tumblr media
Radahn does not give two shits about architecture, he clearly made Redmane based off of every other fort in the Lands Between and chose function over fashion, which is fair I guess, but also kinda boring. At least he strung up the all of the swords in Redmane and gave it some flaire. 4/10 because Redmane is so basic, plus minus 1 point for the tetanus hazard.
Tumblr media
Raya Lucaria had an architecture course as an elective and Rykard committed himself to his GPA and developed his own aesthetic. He graduated top of his class and Rennala baked a cake for him. Best day of his life. Then he went up to Mt. Gelmir and was like, "I should totally make this place my house," and then he did because nobody had the balls to stop him. 10/10 for his commitment to the blasphemy aesthetic. And props to Tannith for doing a great job keeping the foyer the cleanest place in the Lands Between, but also 1/10 for the backyard being a general crime against humanity.
Tumblr media
Ranni follows the rule of, "if it aint broke dont fix it," which is exactly why she broke everything else in the world and then returned to her childhood home after the Shattering. Caria could definitely use some bedrooms though because where the heck does everyone sleep?? Or do anything else for that matter???? Caria: Bathroom? Never heard of it. 6/10 because the sparkly magic bits in the air are super cool but Caria Manor definitely should've been a legacy dungeon.
Tumblr media
Miquella attended both Leyndell and Raya Lucaria architecture classes, excelling over everyone and beating Rykards score in the final exam by exactly one point, and yet has no idea why Rykard is so pissed at him. Then after disowning his dad he had the great idea to try and build a treehouse but grew his own tree first because he's an over achiever and has gifted kid syndrome. 10/10 because the aesthetic is elegant and immaculate, and everyone who has depression is trying to get there for free therapy.
Tumblr media
Malenia went to architecture school with Miquella because she had nothing better to do and slept through every class. The most she did there was break up Miquella and Rykards final exam squabble and also couldn't care less about architecture because she's fuckin blind. Rates the Haligtree architecture 10/10 because even though she's blind, she's sure that Miquellas sense of style is very pretty. But also rates it a 2/10 because Miquella keeps stubbing his toes and tripping on the carved stone flooring even though he insists everything is fine.
Tumblr media
The Land of Shadow is less of Messmers house and more of his eternal timeout corner. He was so dedicated to his mom that it honestly weirded Marika out and she essentially put him there and then completely forgot he ever existed. -10/10 because the parental abandonment is so real

At this point we should just collectively lawyer up and ask for some shares of the licence because what's next after this?? A netflix spin off?
I came across this pic and for a brief moment I thought 'wait, did the russian fandom do an animated cartoon (cause I wouldn't put it past them)?! It looks like that batman cartoon series that was on tv in the early 20s!'
Tumblr media
But it was just another crazy remarkable comic book - that looks like it belonged on tv screens - about this freaking ship that seems to know no bounds.
You are so so so amazing and I’m so happy for you that you’re animating your writing. It looks so incredible right now and I wish you the best in your creating. It looks like so much work and you’re DOING IT!!!!
Aww, thank you 💟
Animating A&E sure is a whole lot more work than the WebComic, and written version, but I prefer animating 10x over. It's a lot more fun. Not to mention that the results are way more worth it.
Static images, as in comics, can only do so much. Animation lets me put in a lot more detail (movements, sound effects, songs, etc.) As surprising as it might sound, I had a clear vision of how it would look/sound as I was writing it. Now I get to realize a lot of that.
It's safe to say I'm excited AF and can't wait to share the 1st episode when ready!
