i haven't posted art in forever !!!!!!! so here are some quick traditional doodles (and a digital study) i did to get back into the tempest.

anyways i've been dying to revisit my Ariel and Caliban designs becos i thought of fantastic parallels between them as a flying fish and stonefish, and will definitely be playing around with more animal stuffs for designs later. (i always thought of Ariel as a moth or butterfly, even a bird, but i somehow never thought of their likeness to a flying fish before)

also had some other inklings of ideas of Ariel as a pilot or sailor ....

Hello !!!!! I'm so, so sorry for the late response but I am extremely honoured to be asked this question.

UNFORTUNATELY, I must admit that I've only watched one Tempest production thus far (and I'm horribly attached to it), and that is the 2013 Globe production which you can watch for free here on the Internet Archive.

I've also briefly seen clips of the 2016 Royal Shakespeare Company Production and the 2010 film (featuring genderbent Prospera!), both of which seem to take unique theatrical directions (like the interesting CGI Ariel at the RSC ... ). If you'd like to check those out, I believe you can watch the film on Internet Archive or most other movie pirating sites. (I've not had time to scrounge for an RSC bootleg yet, sorry!!) If you do find anything, please let me know! I am always welcome to any Tempest stuff in my ask box.

#aw man that does suck #honestly i think caliban is honestly a bit of a tightrope character #becos the way shakespeare characterises him is evidently based off of the discriminatory stereotypes of his time #yet we see how caliban also holds intellectual value and love for his surroundings all the same #ie “i cried to dream again” scene #so he's quite interesting #and yea obviously requires skilful portrayal to handle #this is a bit late to ask and also kinda awkward to reply to in tags but #could i please know where you watched the rsc version?#and also any other productions u intend to watch cos i might check them out later

Every time someone tells me they hate Shakespeare (which is frequently, bc people who hate Shakespeare r usually very proud of it and they need to tell me immediately when they learn that I'm a Shakespeare actor) I enact a sort of self contained stoic ritual where I remind myself that I do not need to be defending the most read and lauded and hegemonic English writer of all time even though I KNOW that they've only half-read Romeo and Juliet when they were 14 in a lame English class and formed a grudge and never changed their opinion. I have that knowledge and I allow it to wash over me and leave me undisturbed
