I was going to ignore this as the only real death has been my motivation but alas, now would be a good time to spread positivity.

I think it's great that all the previous female protags have been given second life via the new anime. That means Misty and Brock's cameos in SuMo really did demonstrate that bringing back old chatacters would be beneficial to the anime. Everyone gets another chance to shine!

Ah, my main special project for this year’s Pokeshipping Week event! I have skipped meals, sleep… uh, probably some responsibilities at work but don’t tell anyone… just to finish this stupid thing on time! It’s the proudest moment of my life to know that I got to semi-successfully draw my number one OTP kissing… Alas, my artistry skills are quite limited so I made up the difference/details by writing an accompanying fanfic, which I hope you’ll all read.

Btw, the first page was originally a “standalone art” for the prompt, which is why the art style may appear a little more detailed/different in general. Btw 2.0, I absolutely loved the concept of drawing these two “blushing up to their ears”, which I did twice in this comic. So yeah.

I’m also begging people to reblog this type of stuff from me when I post it because I’m trying (and failing) to get into the world of commissioned artists.

Day Two (2): Aged-Up Characters Declaring Their Love During Johto Journeys

Little confession of mine: my brain completely blocked out the ‘declaring their love’ bit long enough till I was nearly finished with this piece and realized the full title. So, uh, apologies if the dialogue feels shoe-horned in…

On another note, the outfits they’re wearing here are also in Day 1′s theme. I wanted there to be a bit of continuity between the two since they’re both alternate retellings of seasons past. The clothes might not be anymore visible here than they were there but hopefully it works all the same~

Uuuugh, I’ve had next to no time due to working double shifts to work significantly on writing portions of these prompts. Frankly I’m surprised I was able to finish coloring this art at all to a point that I was satisfied with the finished work.

Anyway, this is of course my response to day two of Pokeshipping Week. I think I was still riding the high of day one because I half stole that concept in my headcanon of this scene and added it in here.

In this case, they’re traveling Johto with Brock but this might be the more “grown up” version of Ash and Misty’s nighttime conversation from Sick Daze (so when I say I hijacked day one’s concept, I mean in the sense that they’re reliving an experience from the canon only the details fit the prompt).

I was going to write a fic but, like I said, I’ve had hardly any time and somehow less focus. I may come back to this someday but the general premise of this work was the following…

Ash and Misty have spent all day subbing in for Brock’s role in their group while the latter recovers from his fever. Things had already been somewhat progressing but the mood is just right tonight. They’re chatting about good times and their goals and etc and Ash had leant Misty his jacket since she was chilly before the fire really got going so it’s around her waist now that they’re somewhat warmed up.

And Misty just takes it all in, the perfectly clear sky, the emotional atmosphere, the solitude from any distractions, the recent comradery bordering on romantic vibes shared with Ash lately… and she confesses without really thinking about it. And rather than make a big stink or act confused like a 12 year old version of himself might, older-teen Ash understands what she’s saying and peaceably returns her feelings in a somewhat obtuse way (very him, she lets it slide).

It’s a little unromantic, a little unadventurous or lacking in drama, but it works for an older version of them.

PS: This art also presented me with an opportunity to work on “lighting” changes in the dark. It’s not a perfect science for me but yeah, I think the look of nightfall and flickering of the campfire showed through well enough.

PPS: For once, I drew the entire background rather than relying on stock imagery from the program I use (ibispaint X). The only thing I couldn’t draw was the fire itself. Whoops!

Day Three (3): Misty in Pokémon Journeys

So, just as a heads-up, I combined this theme and Day 7′s original theme together because I was at a bit of a loss in differentiating the two while keeping in line with how the show would handle another Misty appearance. So, here we are.

Gotta say, Pokémon Journeys’ art style is pretty adorable. It was fun drawing Misty in it. The details on the phone, though, not so much!

Day Four (4): Pikachu Protecting Misty

Guess you could say it’s more Pikachu comforting Misty rather than protecting. But they almost go hand-in-hand, yeah?

Scenario that I had is where Misty and Pikachu get separated from everyone else from a rockslide and one of the last things Ash says to them is ‘look out for/protect each other’. But Misty has seemed to do most of the protecting than letting Pikachu have a chance to do the same. Will they ever escape this cold, dark rocky labyrinth? Aside from the usual zubat, are there larger threats afoot? Are Ash and the gang ever going to be reunited? … Can’t say since I didn’t come up with a fully fleshed out story aside from this premise.

Prompt: “Pikachu protecting Misty”

So I originally wasn’t planning on creating anything for this prompt (or any prompt after day two tbh), but I started doodling line art and, a couple days later, it turned into this.

Um, still have mixed feelings about it. I mostly lie it but also wonder if I played into some gross cliche? And I obviously haven’t had time to flesh out the idea in written format so this is it.

My thought for the concept is that Ash and Misty are battling, like, Rocket (or some other dastardly team) execs and one decides to play dirty and knocks Misty/her Pokemon out.

Ash is, obviously, at least briefly overwhelmed with fear/fury about this, leading to the above panel.

Ash: “Pikachu! You got this?”

Pikachu (affirmative nod, lightning crackling from his cheeks): “Pika, Pikapi!”

Ash: “Thanks, buddy.”

(The electric mouse leaps down in front of Misty and creates a light screen barrier to protect her from any further attack damage. Meanwhile Ash faces the enemy again and readjusts his cap with a smirk, knowing his best friend is in good paws.)

Ash: “Big mistake, guys! ‘Cause the only team better than me and Misty is me and Pikachu! So since he’s got her back, that frees me up to kick your butts!”

I referred to Misty as the “best friend” but maybe they’re more at this point? Who can say? Lol. Btw he gets her some immediate medical attention after the battle. And maybe there’s a quaint little heart-to-heart afterwards…

Pokeshipping Week 2020

Day Five (5): Studio Gh*bli AU

Decided to change this day’s theme just because I wanted to do the Studio Gh*bli AU theme more~ And I wasn’t sure where to take First Times, so…

I brainstormed with some of the lesser known (less popular?) works because I really like some of Gh*bli’s quieter films. Only Y*sterd*y, When M*rnie was Th*re, and Wh*sper of the H*art to name a few. Originally, I was going to do Only Y*sterd*y but due to time, I decided to change it to Wh*sper of the H*art as it was smaller scale. Initially, I didn’t want to go with a straight homage to the poster/cover for the film but I also didn’t want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it. So, hope this isn’t too boring~

Thinking, though, that if I get enough time I might do a bonus drawing to what I wanted to draw with Only Y*sterd*y in mind. It might be fun but like I said a lot of work. We’ll see~

(btw, the asterisks in the names are just so they don’t pop up in those tags. This post is more Pokemon than anything else, and I don’t want people who follow those tags get something only very tangentially related.)

(The following story are letters between Misty and Ash while they’re dating. And yes, tonight I’m posting 3 stories since I didn’t really post yesterday. I’m sorry :s)

Dear Misty,

It’s been so long since we wrote each other! How is it going?

Me and my new friend Goh (yeah, his real name) arrived in Hammerlocke (in Galar). It’s a big town inside castle walls, which is so cool! We’ve met professor Magnolia. She’s really nice! When we met her, she offered us tea and checked Pikachu for free! :)

How is it in Cerulean? Is the gym okay? And how are ya sisters? Write me back!

My sisters are fine. They’re busy with their usual stuff, everything but returning to the gym. Only Daisy came by a few times. Thank goodness for Tracy. By the way, we have been dating since we were 16…shouldn’t we do a bit more?

Just as she was about to write her name on the paper she heard the doorbell.

Misty sighed and stood up. She grabbed her slippers and put them on. As she glanced at the clock she saw that it was already 12 pm.

She pushed through her loose hair and walked down the stairs towards the front door. She heard the rain and wind from outside. The storm was already gone, but Tracy told her to keep an eye on the gym.

Misty sighed as the doorbell rang again.

“Coming, coming!”

She opened the door, expecting her sister or Tracey.

But instead she was met with two familiar brown eyes, a soaked jacket, a small Pikachu and a cap.

“A-a-ash?!” Misty yelled. “What the…”

“Say it.” Ash breathed out.

“Huh?” Misty blinked. “Say what? Wait, you need to get inside or you’ll get sick!”

She pulled him into the hallway and closed the door behind her.

“You need to say it to my face.” Ash said.

“What are you talking about?!” Misty walked towards him and put her hand against his forehead. “Are you getting sick?”

“No…Mist…what you said in your letter…”

“Oh, that? I’m sorry, I was angry with you, I shouldn’t have been…”

“Not that. The other thing. The love thing.”

Misty pulled her hand back and blushed. “W-w-what?!”

“You said that you…loved me…can you say it again?”

Misty gulped. Say it again? To his face? It was a bit embarrassing, but it was how she really felt. And there wasn’t any reason to hide it from him…

“I love you.” Misty said.

Ash stared at her for a few seconds before he suddenly started to blush.

He put his hand over his mouth, looked away and said; “Geez…Mist, you’re really embarrassing.”

Misty grinned. She took a step closer with her hands behind her back and said it again.

“I love you.”

Ash looked back at her with a flushed face.

“I love you, Ash Ketchum.” Misty suddenly had more confidence. “I really do.”

Ash gulped. “Misty…I love you too.”

Now it Misty’s face to redden. She put both of her hands against her cheeks and whispered; “You idiot…”

Ash took a step closer. He put his hands onto hers and drew her head in for a kiss.

When their lips met, Misty felt her heart overflowing with a warm and comfortable feeling. Ash felt the exact same way. He had never felt it before, not with any girl he had ever met.

They parted after the kiss and stared into each other eyes for minutes.

“This was worth traveling for.” Ash whispered.

“You’re insane.” Misty whispered back. “You went all the way from Galar to Cerulean city…but…that doesn’t change the fact that I-”

“Hatsjoe!”

Ash and Misty both almost jumped when Pikachu suddenly sneezed loudly.

They looked down at the little pokemon who was wiping his nose furiously.

Misty sighed. “Okay, you two need a bath or you’ll catch a cold.”

“And you’ll join us?”

Misty hit Ash across his head. Ash groaned and rubbed his head.

“Okay…” He groaned. “I deserved that.”

“Yes, you did.” Misty grabbed his hand. Ash expected her to glare at him, but instead she showed him a smile.

Ash smiled back and gave her hand a little squeeze. There were suddenly no words needed. They both really loved each other and they both knew what that meant.

Even if the future would never be clear, they would always have each other.
