-he isn't someone who normally goes out to eat at restaurants, typically just focusing on soccer, but he'd figured that dinner would be a pretty standard first date, so he isn't any more used to the setting than you are 😭

-he'd mostly gotten the idea from ness, who played a very large role in helping him plan the date thanks to their shared lack of dating experience

-he'd take you to a quiet cafe on the outskirts of your city, specifically one that has outside tables where you two can sit outside with your coffee/tea/hot chocolate, perhaps even a pastry

-just somewhere quiet without tourists or noise where he can chill in peace and get to know you

-he'd seem quite quiet at first, causing you to start the first few conversations, but begins to open up and grow a lot more comfortable when you bring up the right topics!

-as you talk, you notice him looking at you sincerely, genuinely listening to what you have to say, asking questions about your life and your stories, with his usual blank expression >-<

-afterwards, you guys would take a walk around the nearby city, there's no shops he's particularly interested in, but if there's anywhere you would like to have a look inside, he will always join you

-the day ends with him walking home a granting you a small, easy-to-miss smile as you approach your front door :')

nervously bouncing your leg, you sat in the kitchen awaiting the text armin had promised upon his arrival at your apartment, with some light makeup and half-decent comfy clothes being sported in preparation for your midnight snack run with him. surely it couldn't be that scary, you both had no problem talking and furthermore kissing at connie's party only a day prior, even if you were both shitfaced from the sheer amount of drinks consumed. you looked towards the door of your apartment, a small handbag left on the floor last night had been left there and forgotten about when you were previously too drunk to care. in an effort to take your mind off the nerves of meeting armin one on one, you bring yourself over to the bag, unzipping it to find some cash alongside the half empty box of cigarettes and your lighter.

a knock at the door startles you, indicating that he was there already, and so you hurriedly swing the bag over your shoulder with the knowledge that you won't be able to afford anything more than $6.25 thanks to the little amount of cash in the bag.

"hey!" shit, did that sound too excited? you look up at the man, his blonde hair slightly scruffy, dressed in a grey sweater and plaid pajama pants with some slightly worn sneakers, yet he still looked so so good. "..hey" he responds with a gentle smile growing on his face. you step out of the door, locking it behind you as you begin to trek down the stairs of your apartment complex.

upon getting out onto the street, you begin walking with armin silently, you could sense that there was strong tension between you both but you couldn't possibly think of anything to say to him, especially after last night. there were grey clouds in the night sky, yet the light of moon and stars would peak through from behind them periodically, you could've stood and admired it for hours if it weren't for the blonde walking beside you who captured your attention much better than merely the sky could. you walked along a main road which even at this time of day still had cars whirring up and down it periodically, as you approach a black and white painted crossing.

a loud whirr pierced through the air, and in mere seconds a car speeds by, followed by a gust of wind from the sheer speed it was travelling at, blowing your hair back slightly and further ruffling armin's fringe. "jeez, there's so many crazy drivers in this area, its ridiculous." he sighs, before poking his head infront of the two of you and inspecting ecah side of the road, looking out for any more potentially dangerous drivers before he continues; "let's be careful when crossing the roads around here." you feel something warm brush your hand, and look down in shock to see armins fingers interlocking between yours and gently taking your hand. "let's go." he then utters as he pulls you across the street hastily before you can even process the feeling of his hand in yours nor before another lunatic can manage to fly down the road into you both.

once at the other side of the street, your grasp on armin's hand loosens with the expectation that you would each let go, but his grip still remains. if anything, it had only gotten tighter. you lowered your gaze to see the smooth skin of his hand, with neatly trimmed nails and a small freckle on his left hand. you look back up at him expecting him to realise that he can let go but instead, the man is facing forward, not making eye contact and the most you can do is try to keep up.

perhaps he was avoiding eye contact, perhaps he didn't realise he still had your hand clutched in his as if you could disappear at any second, perhaps it was a shy attempt at flirting? only the gods above know.

the store grows closer with each step, and you enter in silence as armin follows behind you, allowing you to take him to whatever aisle you pleased. being wary of your tight budget, you begin to browse the instant ramen stocked on a shelf near the back for an easy dinner you could make once you got home. snatching a packet from the shelf, you make your way down to the fridge for a drink to pair with your food and spot an extremely tempting diet coke, however, in order to grab it you would be forced to let go of armin's hand. within a split second you mindlessly slip your hand out from within his and take the can.

you bring your items to the counter and quietly pay for your goods before leaving, bag in one hand and the other empty. as you begin to make your way back, your mind is racing with desperate thoughts on how to spend more time with armin before he drops you off at home and the night ends too uneventfully for your liking. he'd been quiet and you can only assume he was tired or nervous but there just wasn't a good enough excuse to go home yet.

not too far ahead of you, a car park lies nearby the street, empty and softly lit by the warm streetlights that line the road. you'd passed by it many times on your own solo trips to the store or even just when you were running errands. it belonged to some random offices nearby and at this time of night no one would have any business being there, other than perhaps you two...

"wanna stop for a bit? i'm tired of walking," you suggest feebly. armin turns to face you, blue eyes meeting yours as he smiles sheepishly. "yeah, of course! sorry, i should've taken your bag for you.." you wave your hands in reassurance "no no, you didn't need to! i just wanted to stay out for a bit, i don't have anything to do tomorrow so it's not like i need to sleep early." "same here, i was planning on heading to the gym with eren but he cancelled to hang with mikasa," he responds as you take a seat on the edge of the curb side by side, the moon peeking out from the clouds above.

He was casually just flipping through the novel you were currently into. “Ja.” [Yes.] You stopped and glared at him. “Babe, this is serious. Do you realize what you’re asking of me?” “Mhm.” Your eye twitched at his nonchalance. He snaps your book shut and finally looks up at you. “I’ll take care of you. He couldn’t help but smirk at your expression. “Riiiight.” He replied sarcastically, sitting up on the edge of your bed. -i can imagine eren being a heavy sleeper who drifts off extremely fast and so he struggles to stay up at night with you.. he'll promise to stay awake as you guys chill and watch netflix in bed but you turn to see him fast asleep only five minutes into the film or show you're supposed to be watching

-if you ever wake up after having a nightmare or any form of night terrors he'll turn a dim lamp on in order to show you that there's nothing to be afraid of, whilst also not blinding you with the main/ceiling light.

-even better, he'll run downstairs and grab you a glass of water and a small snack to nibble on if you're hungry no matter how late it is

-if you're asleep and he isn't, he'll do everything in his power to not wake you up, being careful and quiet at all times and deciding to wake you as late as he possibly can the next morning without you oversleeping, just to help you catch up on the many hours of sleep lost over the past week

-falls asleep with one arm wrapped around you loosely and his head leaning into the crook of your neck, his breath can be quite tickly against your skin as he sleeps but you're so used to it that it feels wrong without it

-if you can't sleep he'll either play some quiet white noise, rain sounds, or gentle music from his phone in an attempt to soothe you.

-jean has very cold hands, and so in the summer he holds you close to him as you sleep with his hands flat on your back in order to cool you down. in winter he tucks his hands into the sleeves of his sweater as to not make you feel too cold.

-he can sometimes tell if you're having a nightmare from your breathing patterns and facial expression, gently waking you to pull you from whatever you're experiencing.

-if you're really struggling to fall asleep, he'll try his best to stay up with you until you manage to sleep and once he's 100% sure you'll be okay then he'll allow himself to join you in slumber

there was once a time where you would actively avoid jean kirstein. having heard daunting rumours about the many girls he had dated briefly before moving onto the next, you knew he was trouble. little did you know it would take one class to fuck that up. you dreaded to find yourself assigned as his partner for your chemistry project that you would be working on for the next while, but only a few weeks later would you then be calling at a blessing in disguise, or so you thought.

it was difficult to focus on the work when he'd give you a look with such sincerity in his eyes, asking you about your interests, teasing you, thoughtfully bringing you a coffee when you'd meet up to work on your project. you each drank in the others attention just as a man dying of thirst could only dream of.

he told you that they were all just rumours, that it was his ex friends trying to ruin his reputation, and that you could trust him. you grew close, you opened your fragile heart to him, and you didn't realise how truly whipped you were for him until he asked you on a sweet date at the new steakhouse that had recently opened.

becoming official was a struggle, your friends telling you to leave while you can, deeming you "his next victim," to which jean told you they weren't supportive friends, that you deserved better, that you should cut them off if you really loved him. you mindlessly obliged, submitting to him without a question as if he'd put a spell on you.

your relationship with jean was quiet, you stopped speaking to those of your friends that never supported you being with him, jean was your everything. he wasn't the lustful, sex addicted guy he'd been labelled as by the rest of campus. in fact, he'd told you that he didn't want anything sexual, that he didn't feel ready yet, and you respected his wishes, burying the dirty thoughts of him that had filled your mind far, far away, or at least you tried to.

you weren't the type to party much, normally just sending your beloved and misunderstood boyfriend a "have fun baby" text before going back to your netflix as he went out to drink until the early hours of the morning. the one exception being when you both were invited to your long time friend eren's party and you just couldn't say no.

the night was filled with laughter, drunken confessions, and getting plastered off the cheap store-brand vodka bought with fake id's and money put together by the broke college students that went. after many hours, you realised you couldn't find your oh-so-innocent boyfriend anywhere, and so you went upstairs to try calling him and entered the first room you saw, shutting the door behind you before looking up in horror at the scene in front of you.

a skirt on the floor, a crushed can of beer beside it, a shirt hanging off the bed, a girl in nothing but her undergarments, and him on top of her. it was the mullet that gave away his identity, you could recognise it in a crowd of thousands people and instantly know it was him. the beautiful face of the man you love turns to meet you yet there's no words you could ever think to say to it again.

your eyes flicker from his face down to his body, he's pressed against her, a toned arm supporting him beside her head on the pillows and a hand that was made to hold yours sitting on her chest. when did he even come upstairs? he was drinking with reiner and eren fifteen minutes ago, do they know about this? they must, everyone does, everyone had already told you what kind of guy jean kistein was.

a tear leaves your eye as you stand in shock, another, and another, and the flow won't stop. you bite your lip and the salty taste creeps in, overpowering the sweet remains of every kiss you were ever so stupid as to accept from him. he always told you that he wasn't ready, but here he is, with a girl he had no romantic, or as far as you were aware, sexual relations with at all.

he crawls off the bed in nothing but his boxers and hurries towards you, endlessly apologies, lies, excuses, flowing from his mouth like a broken record as he puts both hands on each of your shoulders, shaking you, begging you to look at him, to listen, anything. you're frozen, his words go in one ear and straight out the other, that is if you're even hearing any of his shit at all. you don't care, all you care about was your stupid, naive self and your shattered world.

armin arlert isn't necessarily the type to stay up late playing video games, having even taken a break to focus on his studies. this changes when his lifelong friends eren and mikasa finally get him back online when in need of a fifth player for their five stack, and he's met with a new addition to their gaming sessions, becoming infatuated with her after just one night.

as the first round teamed up with armin begins, you're on the attacking side. using a drone to infiltrate the site your opponents are situated in, you discover that eren and mikasa are both playing characters who focus on entry denial, with traps and tools that disallow you to enter. together you make your way into the building, shooting out the cctv cameras nearby whilst being as stealthy as possible.

"armin, i'm gonna head up the white stairs to get into site, what about you?" you inquire, it was a solid route to take as you wouldn't enter straight into the bomb site, but instead would be heading through a room that you could take cover in before entering via a second door directly to eren and mikasa. you always liked to play it safe that way, as much more of a strategic person than one who runs head-first into situations, and you knew armin was the same. "i think im going to go up to tower and ill breach the wall to get into attic, then i'll just get closer from there depending on how they react." armin's route was similar to yours, entering through a further away entrance and making his way in carefully and quietly. "cool, that's a solid plan!"

you each go up to your respective points but as you approach the first door you notice a small black box that catches your eye, a trap situated on the side of the doorframe from the inside. you're quick to shoot and destroy it, cringing internally at how loudly you had just given away your position. the sound had clearly attracted someone as bullets fired towards you mercilessly. backing away from the door, you stop to think about what you could do, but decide to face whoever it was and hopefully get a kill before advancing forward to find the second player.

you then scope in with your gun and slowly peek out, aiming at the side of the second door across from you where whoever it was had leaned out to shoot at you. "there's someone on me," you utter to armin as you wait for their appearance. you keep a tight angle held on the doorframe, waiting for the 'enemy' to make a move. the second a hint of black peeked out from the doorway you pulled the trigger and fired, but almost instantaneously, a second figure ran out from behind the one you were shooting. you had managed to get a headshot on the character holding the door, who you now found out was eren, and killed him, but mikasa had only taken a small amount of damage and was heading straight for where armin was, and in a moment would turn the corner to find him.

"armin pre-fire that corner, now!" you yell into your microhphone before the sound of even more bullets fell upon your ears and the text "your team won" filled the screen. relief washed over you at armin's successful delivery of your instructions. "thanks, y/n," he says, and you can almost hear the smile on his face.

at that moment your attention is taken off the game but down to your stomach angrily growling, likely discontent from your lack of a decent dinner, but you decide to ignore it, too engrossed in the tv.

throughout the many rounds, you begin to lose. the score was 3-4 to you two, with this next round determining whether eren and mikasa would win the whole game or not. as dire as the situation felt, you struggled to concentrate thanks to the growing hunger you felt, "urgh, i'm so hungry" you groan as armin and yourself were setting up the site in preparation for what could be the final round. "really? why don't you grab something to eat and i can handle setting up site," armin responds sweetly. it was a good idea, but remembering the state of your fridge that you had already checked for food earlier shut it down immediately. "i would, but my fridge is basically empty! i think i might head down to the convenience store and grab a proper dinner, it's only fifteen minutes away on foot." there's a pause as you watch armin's character scurry about on the screen before he says "i don't know if that's a good idea, it's twelve at night, it might be dangerous to go out at this time!"

you figure that he does have a point, however nothing at home would be able to satisfy your hunger, so you decide to tell him that you genuinely need to go and that you'll be quick, but he cuts you off; "what store is it that you live nearest to?" to which you reply "it's that twenty four hour store on rose street, i'm too tired to remember the name." upon realising just how drowsy you felt, you rub your eyes and stand up to stretch. "hey! i live around the corner from there! ill pick you up and walk you there, j- just to make sure you're safe at this hour, of course.." your heart skips a beat at the thought, and you make that clear with a small giggle. "sure, i'll send you my address if you can just let the others know we're leaving."

you swiftly leave the xbox party and scurry to your bathroom in an attempt to look half-decent for him, applying some light makeup and changing from your tight tank top into a sweater to combat the cool night.
