Note
apparently japanese fans were saying after 1110 that the "burden" comment comes of as arrogant and they tied it to some other weird phrasing sanji used this arc, like the way he talks to s-shark in 1065 and 1077, and how he called vegapunk something like "you insolent man" at the end of 1070. have you noticed anything like that during this arc? would you say that those phrasings are different from how sanji usually talks and are there similarities there to the arrogance with which his brothers talk?
i saw a few theories about this, and honestly, not really? nothing about the way sanji talks in this arc has stood out to me as like, more rude or arrogant than he has been previously in the series. i honestly think that maybe sanji's excellent character writing in whole cake island has just made some people forget that he has always been (and i say this with a lot of love) a huge asshole. it really surprised me that him saying something bitchy to zoro and zoro getting competitive about in return set off such a big controversy, because to me it honestly seemed entirely normal for the way they typically interact?
more seriously, i think a storyline about sanji actually being, like, somehow ontologically evil would go pretty directly against both his character development in whole cake island and wano and the broader themes of the story. sanji's personal subplot in wano was entirely about driving himself insane with anxiety over whether he was secretly evil or not; that really doesn't seem to me like something the narrative would turn around and validate after all that. i think sanji's terror about losing his capacity for emotion is likely way more grounded in his personal mental illnesses than in, like, any realistic possibility of that actually happening.

Hey can we talk about this
Like.
Ohhhh, yes I think about this all of the time!

I hope that when they come back, Oda verifies this more explicitly in canon because it's honestly such an important and interesting detail tucked away in the Vivre cards!
I think it's really interesting that this is a detail we, as the readers, are privvy to but not one that Reiju herself seems to be aware of based on how she sees her brothers and thinks of them as inhuman and lost causes.
One of my little headcanons is that Judge might actually be well aware that Reiju's emotions were unlocked through Sora which is why it seems like he forbade the boys from visiting her while seemingly Reiju wasn't particularly scolded for it so long as she conformed. (I feel like he didn't care as much because he thinks lesser of her as "a prototype" and because she’s a girl.)

Another headcanon/theory I have based on this part of the Vivre card is that this could be why Reiju is 3 years older than her brothers and why she wasn't made into their fraternal twin or younger than them when Oda decided to re-age Sanji's brothers down when originally Ichiji was 30, Niji was 27 and Yonji was actually twins and they were 12.
So, I think her being older could serve a narrative purpose potentially. Because she's proof that if her brothers are shown empathy and sympathy repetitively then their hearts can thaw just like hers did. It was due to Sora's dedication over the course of 3 years that unlocked her heart, so her brothers aren't hopeless either.
And I think it would be most interesting tbh if Niji and Yonji were the only ones born like Reiju meanwhile Ichiji was born like Sanji but learned to conform by watching his only elder sibling, Reiju and following her example. (another reason why her being older than them might mean something.)
I think it kind of explains some vibes about Ichiji but also why Niji and Yonji's eyebrows were shown more explicitly and why they're the ones that seem to openly show more interest in her.
Because Sora passed away so early and because Reiju's role in the group is to play nurse--I feel as though she has probably shown them more warmth and kindness throughout the years than anyone ever has despite her not necessarily trying to.
She's their big sister but also she must be the closest thing they have to a mother in a way and after years of her kindness in spite of herself, she might have begun to reach them and that might be why they seem to take a vested interest in her while it seems Ichiji doesn't because his dynamic with her might be different.
(Tbh what would you describe this as if not empathy/sympathy?? And isn't this a weird thing to see coming from Niji of all people?)

So it's my little theory that Reiju, who was taught kindness from their mother and Reiju who looks like the spitting image of Sora is going to reach them eventually. And through her, Sora's love will finally reach her sons hearts in the end after all.
#oh my fucking god#Bruh#My love for vinsmokes have grown so so so much ever since I encountered your blog OP#Omg#Ughhhhhhhhhh
