𝜗𝜚 #GENSHIN-IMPACT ── I’M ABOUT 2 FALL FOR YOU, @ XIAO! ᡣ ︠ 𓈒. .𓈒 ︡𐑠
𐔌 synopsis. music festivals weren’t your thing, but since you were forced by your circle to go, you had no choice to attend—but who knew that your very first (and possibly last,) music festival would’ve led you to all this chaos?
꣑ৎㅤ. from nana . . xiao x fem!reader, highschool au, not proofread. this was written at 12 am ,, anyways i wrote this as if i don’t escape every music festival we have in our school . . i highly suggest that you listen to buzz while reading this 💌 lowercase narrations, 3rd persons point of view. 1.3k words
“the annual TEYVAT HIGH MUSIC FESTIVAL, was an awaited event all throughout the school year. it was an event that allowed students shine their passion for music, from band performances to rising stars, they’ve got almost everything for a music festival, whatever you’re thinking off, they have it!”
loud, crowded, and tight—that was how you could describe the state you’re in. for as far as you remember, you don’t know how you ended up in this situation.
archons, you couldn’t even understand how you got here in the first place!
gosh, all you knew was that you badly wanted to punch those three right in the face for this! if only they all didn’t oh-so coincidentally leave at the same time, then maybe you wouldn’t be pushed against the barricade second after second?
heizou, venti, yoimiya.. seriously—where even were they? they had all suprisingly disappeared before the show started, “strand representative duties” they said before banishing out of nowhere, leaving you stuck in this suffocating mess. people were pushing, shoving, screaming—gosh, you weren’t even planning to attend this event in the first place, until venti had dragged you, that is. now, you’re stuck, getting crushed by other students.
the event hasn’t even started, how are they so enthusiastic already?
and yet again, another hard shove from behind had caused you to stumble forward, barely able to even register the fact that you were about to fall face-first on the metal frame before—
you felt someone’s arm wrap around you waist.
before you could even process what was happening, you felt yourself being pulled back, steady hands keeping you from colliding head-first into the cold metal.
a familiar voice spoke;
“are you okay?”
your breath hitched.
that voice … was that xiao’s?
your head snapped to the side, and—oh
xiao was looking right at you.
his gaze, sharp yet unreadable, locked onto yours. his brows burrowed slightly—not in annoyance, but in something remotely close to concern.
you barely registered the way his hand lingered on your waist, steadying you, waiting for your response.
“you’re not hurt?” he asked again, his voice quieter this time, softer.
you swallowed. since when was xiao ever this gentle, especially towards you?
“oh, i—” you mumbled, still trying to recover from your thoughts. unable to form a coherent sentence. “—yeah, i think so, thanks to you, haha.” you replied, offering a sheepish smile, laughing awkwardly, as xiao only nodded at your reassurance.
“sooo..” you began, trailing off. “what are you doing here? didn’t you told us that you’re not going?” you asked him, tilting your head in curiousity.
for a moment, xiao’s gaze flickered away, nothing but an awkward chuckle leaving his lips, as if he had been caught.
“. . . change of plans,” he muttered, his fingers involuntarily fiddling with your shirt. “zhongli encouraged me to attend.” he added as his fingers continue to play with your shirt.
unconvinced, you raised an eyebrow. xiao rarely, almost never changes plans.
but before you could press further—
“(NAME)!”
a blur of auburn and blonde suddenly bursts through the crowd, barreling straight towards you.
“we thought we lost you!” heizou wailed, posing a dramatic expression as the other, yomiya, buries her face against your shoulder.
you stumbled back, nearly toppling over—until you felt xiao’s arm steady you from behind once again. you could practically feel his gaze as the two clung tighter.
“miya, hei—” you grunted, struggling under their grip. “you guys told me to stay here, what do you mean you thought i was lost?”
“oh right, but still! we really thought we had lost you for a few minutes!” heizou whined dramatically, feigning sadness on his face as they both stepped back, finally letting go of you.
“anyways—” heizou began, but before he could finish, his eyes darts to something, rather someone behind you. out of instinct, he taps yoimiya’s shoulders, pointing at xiao.
for a quick second, there was a brief silence.
“wait—” heizou squinted, pointing at him. “what are you doing here?”
yoimiya, however, waved a dismissive hand before xiao could even respond. “who cares!” she beamed, latching onto your arm again. “you’re here, and that’s what matters!”
heizou, though still eyeing xiao curiously, shrugged. “fair enough.”
before you could even question how they all suddenly reappeared at once, yoimiya perked up. “oh! do you guys wanna watch from the student council room instead?”
you blinked. “huh?”
“the student council room!” she repeated, grinning. “there’s a better view up there, plus it’s less crowded and has better access to the stage.”
“of course, as strand representatives, we get special access,” heizou added, swinging an arm around xiao’s shoulder. “uh, technically, we can invite the both of you since xiao was last year’s stem representative and you’re our class president..”
you weren’t able to fully comprehend heizou’s statement, as you were already being dragged by yoimiya away from the crowd, leading the way toward’s the student council’s room.
the moment heizou opened the door, you felt as if every corner of the room has shifted their attention towards you. the room fell silent as their gaze follows you, until a voice spoke.
“(name)! xiao!” childe greets, casually swinging an arm around both of your shoulder, grinning widely, while yoimiya closes the door. “it’s glad to see you both here.” he says, leading you both to the balcony; where everyone started gathering together as they settle down.
you felt the pressure on your shoulder lighten as childe removes his arms, allowing you both to take in and appreciate the view and athmosphere as he slips away to grab a drink.
you slowly nodded, finding your way towards the rest of the council, who had all greeted you warmly. xiao, on the other hand, had gone to a secluded part of the balcony, his gaze silently following you, watching how you were being warmly welcomed by each council member—followed by venti’s dramatic complaints as he hugged you tightly, wailing once again, “oh (name)! i missed you!”
you rolled your eyes, though, there was no hint of annoyance behind it. “venti.. you three left me alone there for your ‘representative duties..’”
“but still!” he cried, exaggerating his expression. “is it bad to miss my dear best fri—”
“that’s enough. quit the theatrics, venti.” chiori cuts in, shaking her head, while yoimiya attempts to pry him off you, successfully doing so with practically ease. “the show’s about to start! give her some space!”
venti pouted but gave in anyways, stepping back. “okay fine, let’s all just focus on the show now!”
venti’s antics finally settled as the rest of the student council had shifted their attention towards the festival grounds. conversations died down, replaced by the booming voice of the host being blasted on the speakers, as the lights around the stage had dimmed.
“welcome, everyone, to teyvat high’s music festival!”
chaos erupted from the crowd, their collective excitement vibrating even up from the balcony. as the lights shifted to a sequence of vibrant hues, the first few notes of the opening song—‘Buzz’ by NIKI, filling the festival air.
“the song’s about to start (can you hear it?) / the door’s about to open (can you feel it?) / he flower’s about to fruit (can you see it?) / i’m about to fall for you.”
your heart skipped a beat, you couldn’t help but freeze as the lyrics continued.
“about to fall for you.”
before you knew it, you found your head involuntarily snapping towards xiao, who seemed to be focused on the perfomance, his attention remained fixated onto the stage.
“wondering why you’re so nervous ‘round your so-called ‘friend,’”
in that split second, everything else faded—the voices, the cheers, even the warm embraces of your friends. all that mattered was the way his profile softened under the glow of the festival lights, and the unexpected twist you felt in your stomach.
“i’m about to fall for you.”
oh.
oh, no.
fuck, there’s no way.
