I like the idea of Nightwing being a well-known figure among the hero community, but relatively unknown to the public outside of Gotham and Blüdhaven. Like, he was the first ever sidekick and a kid of one of the Justice League's founding members. Most older heroes are his aunts and uncles, the first generation of sidekicks are his friends, and to the younger ones, he is a mentor and older brother figure. The hero community loves him. But outside of that, he is just a local hero. He sticks to the shadows, and while the people of blüdhaven love him, and the people of Gotham have at least heard of him, he is not very well known.

That is until the Justice League hosts some sort of public event with a lot of younger heroes attending, and one journalist gets an idea for a fun, lighthearted story. They go around asking different heroes and sidekicks who their favorite hero is, and 80% have the same answer: Nightwing

Today I will make my incendiary fandom post on *spins wheel* Spy X Family.

Look, I enjoy Twiyor romance and jokes about Anya asking for a little sibling as much as anyone. But I often really dislike it when post-reveal “they’re a real family with no more secrets” AUs feature Yor and Loid having a baby.

Because like??? It reads to me like people thinking that in order for the Forgers to be a real, perfect (nuclear) family, they have to have a biological kid. They have to have a baby and it has to be theirs, specifically. As if Twilight and Yor aren’t already in love thanks to their relationship and already parents thanks to raising Anya.

(Also, as if Twilight and Yor, two war orphans who know intimately how it feels to be failed by adults, wouldn’t consider adoption if they decided they wanted a second kid?)

I don’t think people consciously intend that to be the message. But it does feel like they don’t actually consider Anya to be Yor and Loid’s kid. Like she’s not enough, like for them to be real parents and a real family they need to have a baby and their own biological kid specifically.

It feels like people are looking at the family they’ve already built and saying it’s not enough.

To be sappy for a minute, I really love how platonic relationships are so centred and respected in Only Murders in the Building. Romantic relationships either fizzle out or are explicitly giving second billing after the main trio's friendship.

The heart of season four was how much Sazz, a lesbian, loved Charles, an old straight guy she worked with for years, and how devastated he was by her death because he loved her too and never felt like he did as much for her as she did for him. Charles haltingly told Oliver he thought they'd grow old(er) and die together, and Oliver marrying Loretta was something he felt ambivalent about because he was happy for him but he didn't want to lose him.

And back in season three, Mabel was devastated when Charles and Oliver didn't have time for her. She's much younger than them and, nominally, could have an easier time moving on and moving into different social circles, but she loves them and wants them to value spending time with her as much as she does.

Like… the love of your life can be your friends, and that's not sad or pathetic or a bad consolation prize for not managing to do it the "right" way. Friendships can be the most important relationships in your life even after you do things the "right" way. And that's not only okay, it's beautiful.

I love the new characters on OMITB but…

I really miss a lot of characters from the first two seasons. Of course there are the Dimases (that’s the plural of Dimas right? Lol), I’ve definitely heard people talking about how much they miss them. Mostly Theo, and hey me too. I do think there’s lots to revisit with these two. But also I ADORE Lucy! I would love to see more of Lucy. Her relationship with Charles is so unique and sweet. She sounds gen z without actually sounding like she was written by a boomer and I love her for it. She’s adorable and excitable and such a good addition to the show. I miss Will too. It’s strange how we barely got to see him in season three especially with Oliver’s medical issues. Oliver is a father and grandfather, but we barely hear him talk about them. What about Mabel’s mom? How is she doing?

I miss the other Arconia residents too. How is Nina doing with her baby and being the Arconia’s board president? How is Charles’ neighbor, Arnav Kapoor? He seemed nice and I wanted to get to know him more. What about Ndidi Idoko and Dr Grover Stanley? I mean that therapist was funny I’m sure you could do something with him.

I also wanna know about Mabel’s relationship with Oscar post season one. They were gonna be just friends but are they friends? Do they still talk? Did they have a falling out? How is he after everything?

How’s Detective William’s wife Kiara and son Keith?

What I love about the first couple seasons is how the Arconia feels like its own little world. There’s a community (of isolated people but still). Now the building feels a little emptier now we only really see Uma, Howard, and Lester. They’ve done so much to build a world here and I wanna continue living in it.
