Bwahaha, I thought people were exaggerating but Jinshi really is - to put it in Maomao's words - a "damned masochist". The way he went all blissful when Maomao slapped him? After he asked her to, no less? 😂😂😂 I mean, sure, she also kissed his cheek, but still. Carrot and the stick. He's so into it. And she's got that down for sure. Although it's not intentional on her part, I think.

Speaking of which, Jinshi does go a teeeny bit yandere sometimes, doesn't he? 😅 Like choking her? Branding himself in front of her so she can be the only woman to ever see him naked? Bringing circumstances about that force them to be in proximity all the time? I mean, Maomao is such an unreliable narrator, she obviously doesn't mind it that much with the way she sometimes becomes so tender around him, but still... He dances along the edge of super creepy sometimes. Never thought I'd dig that trope but I kinda do. 😂

no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.

fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.

I just finished the apothecary diaries - season 2 and I'm like - - "guess I gotta buy the light novels now".

Loooved it.

Let me rant a little under the cut (Spoiler warning)

I reaaallly enjoyed the season starting from the hunt. It's not like I didn't enjoy it before, but with the hunt the plot really started to thicken. And not even just from a shipper's perspective - although, yes that was absolutely delicious - but also how all of the threads from the first season and the first few episodes of the second season start coming together. The whole rebellion. But also the back story with the pedophile late emperor. It's just - a really complex and interesting plot and just couldn't stop watching. And then - the character development? Specifically Jinshi's? Culminating in his acceptance of his role in the last episode? That was an epic ending. Epic cliffhanger as well but ugh. I loved it. And then of course, Jinmao. So good. I love their dynamic and its layers. How everyone is shipping them and how Jinshi's so obviously taken with her despite their difference in status while Maomao is still so stuck on that. - - Damn, I guess I really do have to buy the light novels.

maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. I guess he's fine though because he gives me rare medicines and has no dick" fucking ICON i love her. also she once slapped someone so hard they fell on the floor. 10/10
