“It’s not a threat, Nathan. I promise when you’re gasping for air and pleading for your life, the last thing you’ll see is my face.” He had no mercy when it came to her parents and she promised to do the same with his death. Carmen laughed at the stupidity that was coming out of his mouth, “you underestimate me, Nathan, bad move on your behalf. I would NEVER invite you to my home.” She spat, her eyes narrowed, rage dancing in her eyes. “I wouldn’t be so sure.”   

“Mine is the last you’ll ever see. You can trust me on that one. I’m a lot stronger than you are.” He would kill her. No, it wasn’t decided, but he wouldn’t let her kill him either. “I was actually saying that you wouldn’t. So I agree with you. Spitting is a disgusting habit, I hope you don’t always do that. It’s piggish.” He chided and smiled at her. “I would.” He said and stepped back from her, sliding his hands into his pockets as he quirked a brow at her.

“I’m sure they work in other places… I just don’t think the hospital we have has the set-up for a teaching hospital, but then again, if we had one, I suppose we’d be a teaching hospital,” Alexei mused with a small smile. “Yes, let’s not picture the idea of having undergraduates cutting into patients. That’s… true chaos.”

“I see… It does seem like a very good profession for you. Quite a nice fit,” the blonde said warmly. “And you like doing it, yes? Teaching anatomy”

“Oh yes, they work very well in other places, but the hospital here is more of a hospital instead of a university place for sure.” He said and shrugged. “No, that’s pretty horrific, honestly. I don’t think any patients would be too okay with that either. And I wouldn’t blame them at all.” He said and laughed.

“Well, thank you. It feels like a good fit. I’ve enjoyed it for the most part. Of course it isn’t without it’s rough patches. What about you? Do you enjoy what you do?”

As they got situated in the limo, Shuten turned to face Nathan as he sat next to her. Smiling, she leaned in rather close. “Well, fascinate me then, Nathan. What interesting stories might you have for me to hear?” she purred as the limo began moving. “Well, you could call me anything you’d like, really. I’m quite fond of pet names, but I wonder if we’re at that point yet,” Shuten remarked, her eyes flicking down to Nathan’s hands. “After all, you seem quite content with keeping the boundaries amongst ourselves. But perhaps I am too forward. I’ve been told that,” she hummed.

Pausing, Shuten leaned back, her hand flicking over to one of the mini-fridges next to her. “Something to drink? I like my boys with some liquor in them, after all, but there’s everything you’d want in here.”

Nathan leaned into her a little as well, just to get close to her and pulled back with a smug smile, “You get right to business, don’t you?” He teased gently and moved an arm around the back of her seat. “I have plenty of stories to share and I will get to them as the night progresses.” He commented and smiled at her once again. “We may not be to that point quite yet, but by the end of the night I might have a few pet names for you. A little forwardness in a woman has never bothered me before.” 

He looked over to the min fridge with a nod. “A drink would be nice.” He said and smirked at her like he had before. “Whiskey would be good. I imagine you have that.” He wasn’t much of a drinker only because it never did so much for him, but he liked to keep up appearances.

Carmen looked at him with disgust, he had killed the only she had left. Why would anyone in their right mind be drawn to that? She inhaled deeply, calming herself down she was drawing too much attention from passing people. “I’m not doing this Nathan. If you were smart, you would find another toy to play with.” It was a threat Carmen wanted to kill him and if he pushed her enough, he could easily find her. She glared at him for a moment, again the look of hate mixed with lust. “I want you dead.” 

Nathan’s face lit up in a smirk when she looked at him with both disgust and lust. He saw it very clearly on her face. She was terrible at hiding her emotions. He could read them all very clearly on her face. “You’re threatening me and I find it quite amusing. Listen, I’m here and I’m going to do exactly as I please. Just be happy I can’t go into your house. You may want to make sure you keep it that way.” He was threatening her now. If she ever invited him in without thinking then he could go in whenever he wanted to. “You’ll be dead long before that ever happens.”

“Thank goodness the hospital isn’t a teaching one. Could you imagine the mess that would ensue?” Alexei said with a laugh.”Students ruining patients. What a nightmare…” he chuckled. “A morbid way to put it, but an honest way. How else will we know unless we can cut into them and see it? A necessary pain at times.”

“So, what got you into teaching anatomy?”

“I don’t know, the university hospitals seem to do pretty well. Although by the time any students get on the floor they’ve been in school for years and are no longer undergrads. A hospital with undergrads working would be a mess.” He said and laughed. “Very necessary. Where would medicine be without anatomy? Not far. People had to dissect all the time to see how the human body worked.” 

“I’m fascinated by the human body. I find the way it works amazing. I took anatomy in my undergrad years and just loved it. And I’m good in front of a room of people. It felt very natural.”

“I look forward to your attempts,” Shuten giggled before moving past Nathan, purposefully brushing against him. “Come on then. I can’t feed you if we’re standing around at the university all day,” she teased, walking at a gracefully brisk pace. The demon wanted nothing more than to learn more about the charmingly handsome professor. He was certainly a pleasure for her to look at, and his sharp remarks made him that much more desirable. “Well, I guess you’ll have to prove me wrong if you think you can.”

As Shuten walked out, parked in front was a sleek limo, awaiting her. She glanced over at Nathan with an amused smirk. “Ah. Interesting. I myself have been around for a while too. I wonder if you can spark me with some fascination that I have not yet encountered. That would truly be interesting,” the demon hummed, waiting as their escort opened the door for them to the car. “You can call me Shuten for now,” she said happily as she stepped into the vehicle, situating herself on one of the plush seats inside.

Nathan smiled at her. He didn’t know quite what he had gotten himself into, but he figured he could handle it. He wasn’t too worried about her. She was gorgeous and seemed quite sure of herself. He couldn’t help liking that about her. “I have some level of certainty that I can.” He said with another smirk appearing across his face. He was confident enough in himself after all.

Nathan’s eyes moved over the limo parked outside. It made sense that it was waiting for her. It sounded like she had some money. He looked back at her and smiled, “I guess we’ll see, won’t we?  I might have a few interesting stories up my sleeve.” He would just need to put many of them in a modern context. That was easy enough for him at this point. “For now? Is there something else I’ll be calling you later?” He asked and slid into the seat beside her and rested his hands on his knees.

“I’m not your dear, idiot.” Carmen snapped at him. Her patience was wearing thin with him. How did he find her? Why wouldn’t he leave her alone, but he hadn’t hurt yet, so that had to be some sort of gain. However, Carmen wasn’t sure why he had let her live. She didn’t know what was worst the curiosity in her or the fact that she was drawn to her killer of her parents. “You’re twisted, Nathan. I don’t know what reaction you want. Do you want to have a go at it, right here and right now?” She was sure she could take him, after all, the only reason he had managed to kill her parents was that they hunted in packs and had the element of surprise. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to fight him. 

“Ouch, I’m terribly hurt.” He said and smiled at her again. He knew she was getting more and more frustrated with him and it only seemed to amuse him further. “You have no idea what I really want, but I have my reasons. I don’t wish to have a go at you right here. I prefer things to be more private. Whenever I choose to have a go at you.” He said and smirked. He knew he could handle her on his own. He also knew she was strong and wanted him dead, but that wouldn’t be happening. Hence his confidence in his approach o her.

“Fair enough. I suppose I don’t really have to teach people about my sort of knowledge. You learn all of it in medical school anyways, and there isn’t really time in the hospital to teach people per say as just save them” he murmured thoughtfully. The blonde nodded in response. “Yes, they are very related. It was perhaps one of my favorite subjects when I studied it back in school,” Alexei said with a small scratch of his head. “The human body is very fascinating.”

“Exactly. That’s the obvious different. There’s also the skill level. it’s much different.” He said with a shrug. “Yeah, it’s kind of interesting to cute people open and study them. Of course that’s a pretty morbid way to put it.” He said and chuckled. “It is. It’s amazing how it all functions.”

“well, i wouldn’t know,” he snorted, waving a hand in front of his face to dismiss his thoughts before curling his shoulders into a nonchalant shrug. never one to be deemed as a responsible student. though, he looked at the man in front of him, tilting his head to the side before knitting his brows. “i guess i’ve never been an adult in my classes. but you’re right. who would put themselves through the torture of being in summer classes? and why would you put yourself through the torture of teaching summer classes? i hope it pays extra.”

“I can tell that you wouldn’t.” He said and and gave him and amused look. “Have you ever been an adult?” Honestly questioning his age more than anything. The kid standing before him looked young, but Nathan could never tell anymore. It seemed to him that people looked younger and younger each passing generation. “Dedicated students and professors who want to be able to afford their homes over the summer. Summer courses don’t pay extra and you’re making less still because you can’t take on a heavy course load.”

“Oh? Is that your way of asking for a chance with me?” Shuten purred, clearly more interested and amused, now that Nathan was smirking. She was more than eager to see what the professor could do to entertain her. “I’m not sure you could keep up with me.”

Shuten hums excitedly. “Perfect. No time to waste then! I’ll have someone drive us so we can properly talk. I look forward to seeing how interesting you can be, Mr. Professor,” she giggled.

“I’m more telling you that I’m going to be trying one.” He said, leaning just a bit closer to her. He honestly had no plan now that he was involved in whatever this would be for the evening. He was interested in seeing where it could go. “Oh, you’re not?” He asked with an amused look.

“Believe me, I can be very interesting. I’ve been around for awhile. My name is Nathan.” He said and smiled, “And you are?” He asked,

“Well… yeah, I guess… I just get nervous is all,” Alexei chuckled awkwardly. “I don’t think anyone is that interested to hear me talk anyways. My tongue gets all tied up and… it’s just a train wreck waiting to happen.” The blonde raised his brows in surprise. “Really? What a coincidence! I’m a surgeon!” He paused, shaking his head. “Not that… that’s coincidental, but.. I mean, they’re sort of related. That’s just very cool is all,” the angel stammered, trying hard to mask his excitement.

“Understandable. However, that’s why you have a topic. When you give a speech there’s something  you’re talking about specifically and people are there for the purpose of hearing about said topic. It’s not just aimless speaking.” He said and watched the man’s excitement, not really returning it. He simply looked at him amused. “Are you? Impressive for sure. I mean, anatomy does cover dissection and the body. I’d say they’re very related knowledge-wise. I’m sure you took some anatomy classes, yes?”

“i feel like some people just expect foreigners to move and blend in almost immediately and do what’s supposed to be done. when in rome… you know?” a part of her felt so smug that the use of idiom had slipped from her lips, causing her to smile at herself. though, for a moment, she looked at him and studied his features – a familiar feeling started to grow in her chest. and she wondered if he was human or was he hiding behind the mundane facade. but with that, she snapped out of her trance. “maybe one day i’ll enroll and you’d be my professor.” covering her mouth while laughing softly, she nodded. “it’s nice to meet you too, sir! do you have time to enjoy the summer, too, though?”

“It’s nearly impossible, isn’t it? It’s hard when you first come to another country and people have no idea unless they’ve done it. Especially if you also have a language barrier. English isn’t easy.” He nodded. He understood what she meant. “It could happen.” He smiled. “Do you have any plans at all to enroll?” He questioned. “I do, I’m only teaching two classes and they both meet three times a week so I really have plenty of time. Summers are at least easier in that way.”

Carmen glared at him, she wanted to kill him more than anything but yet again she couldn’t. Whatever was stopping her, she would need to overcome it soon enough. She turned to face him, laughing dryly she wanted him to hurt, she sighed in defeat. “You’re too sadistic, I know you’ll bring them up. Sometimes I wonder if you kept me alive, just so that you could relive what you did to my parents.” She spat out angrily. She walked up to him, locking her gaze with his, it was full of hate and something he might have been familiar with lust. “I guess we’ll see about that. It’s a big Nathan, you might find better distractions.” 

“You wonder correctly, my dear.” He said with a dark stare. “I mean, that’s part of it at least.” He wasn’t going to tell her he had an attraction to her. That he wanted to kill her too, but under much different circumstances that he was sure he would never get to do. He looked back at her, a small smirk on his lips as he watched her. He couldn’t help being amused by her. He knew she was angry, but he also knew she wanted him as much as he wanted her. He was much better at hiding it than she was. “No, I came back to you. You’re fun.” He said and smiled.

“Ugh, yeah, that’s always torture. But thankfully, those days are behind me! But you’re a professor forever.” Leila laughed, putting her hands on her hips and nodding. “Yeah, I can see that. Big ups to you, then. What do you teach, then?” 

“I’m one of those odd people who chose to be in school forever. I’ve always enjoyed it though. Seemed to make sense to be in the classroom. I teach anatomy.”

“I fully intend on doing so. It’s college not middle or high school. I’m not holding hands through the class to make sure they pass because their parents might come banging down my door. Does ice cream work on adults?”
