raina. 1,000 years old. long-suffering writer of fiction. prone to deafening fits of expletive-laden fangirling. person-attempter, but really just a bungling scamp of a human who has more existential crises than should be survivable.

i dont think ill ever stop thinking about this part of the amber spyglass… like lyra being a protagonist who like every children’s fantasy protagonist just excels at this special thing that no one else can do and takes it for granted throughout the whole series and then right at the end when she needs it most she can’t do it anymore.. and this angel telling her that even if she ever gets that ability back it will never be easy or effortless again…. sometimes you grow up and you completely lose the physical and mental wellbeing you took for granted when you were a kid and every day is a struggle and philip pullman reaches out from the pages of his dark materials and grabs you by the neck and says HAVING TO WORK HARD FOR THINGS THAT OTHER PEOPLE TAKE FOR GRANTED DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET TO FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF AND IN FACT A LIFE FULL OF EFFORT WILL BE MORE MEANINGFUL TO YOU IN THE END EVEN IF IT ALSO FILLS YOU WITH GRIEF
#will never understand why this series never reached the popularity hp did when it's so vastly superior in nearly every conceivable way#means the absolute world to me#everything about it is magic#his dark materials
