i hate to do this. i hate to be put in this position, and to have to ask for help in this way, but i have no other choice. as some of you know, my situation at home has been very difficult for years, but especially over the last couple of months. today, i broke that cycle. i left. with nothing but some clothing, my IDs and an iPad. several friends have suggested i opened and spread a gofundme which i was originally against, but now, it seems like my only option to help me secure temporary accommodation, help me pay my bills and eat.

a ticking bomb. the curse was near to its completion. she could feel it in her bones. the ache was something she was familiar with, but not with as much intensity as she had been feeling lately. it was consuming in every sense of the word. for once, she slouches as she sits — finding it hard to straighten up her posture. her eyes follow tom as he sits across from her, but still within reach. within her reach. tom was always near, since the very first day.

with tom confirming what she already assumed had taken place, her gaze falls on to her lap. she had cost him a few numbers surely. though she knows he does not worry much over such matters, it still meant he had lost followers to his cause — to do the tasks he had been meticulously putting together for so long. everything was a blur. nagini could recall very little of what had taken place, and maybe it was better that way. the less she recalled, the less window she had for remorse, guilt.

her eyes flutter shut as he presses a gentle kiss to her forehead and ushers her to lay down, which she complies with. how could she not when every inch of her ached? ❛ . . . i am sorry. i . . . am not too sure— ❜ how to stop the curse from taking over the way it did. ❛ would it be best . . . to keep me here? ❜ away from the death eaters and the gatherings. nagini knows they are not her biggest fans, and this, possibly, made it worse, but the idea of leaving tom alone with them didn't please her either.

nagini leans into his gentle touch. he understood. of course he would. at the suggestion of joining him for a walk, she offers a short nod. anywhere he went, wherever he went, nagini would always follow — as she had been doing since the moment she was free from her all too small cell. with her hand in his, she watches as the death eaters bow for him — though she stands by his side, nagini knows the gesture is purely aimed at her master. many seemed to actually despise her and the power she held, the hold she had on their dark lord. to her, tom was far more than simply that.

his gaze hides very little, at least to a predator like nagini. she had seen that look one too many times before, and revelled in it every single time. he is wary of her, as he should be. after all, though her master may not be nearby, she is still a threat to most living, breathing creatures — and being a death eater did not make him an exception. a threat yet to be named? oh, he knew so little of her deeds. his proximity is one that she is unfamiliar with, and therefore brings slight agitation. the hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips does not go unnoticed — faux authority. skender once held that same expression when he forced her to perform for the circus goers. oh, how she despised that expression. ❛ tread carefully, lucius malfoy. ❜

silence settles as she allows him to hold her. taking in his scent often helps to slow the world down, even if just for a brief moment. it provides clarity, reassurance. slowly, her arms snake around his torso, holding on to him tightly. holding him tightly against her. sometimes, she wonders what would have happened to her if she had not met him. if tom had not heard of the unique serpent being mistreated by the wizard kind at their freak show circus. would she have ever known kindness? would she have survived?

❛ what will you do? ❜ if — when she dreamt of him again? nagini often wished it would stop altogether. the flashbacks, the occasional daydream, the nightmares. then, she remembers. if not for all of that, she would have never met tom. that is a much tougher pill to swallow. her pain brought him to her. ❛ forgive me for taking up your time with this. ❜ she offers a small smile. she's grateful. he always took the time to shut down her worries, concerns, insecurities, fears. ❛ i heard you call for me. lead the way, master. ❜ wherever he went, she would follow. always.
