some twin au headcanons:

melissa was born first and, though they’re considered twins, is very much the big sister

william is more sensitive to the visions. he started having them earlier, and has a much more intense reaction to them. melissa has them, but it’s more of a mental experience than the full body crisis william goes into.

while william was a bit of a social outcast, melissa was very popular. 

william’s always been a sensitive, somewhat fragile kid, and melissa took it upon herself to stick up for him. she’s gotten in many a fistfight sticking up for her brother

in terms of personality, melissa’s like scully and william like mulder

MULDER:

    mulder’s first reaction to the question was to give her some sort of snide remark, but that would completely defeat the purpose of him even being there in the first place. ❝ i wanted to come check on you. ❞ monica had done something incredible for his FAMILY and he owed it to her to be kind. he had never been all to kind to her and she wasn’t deserving of it, especially not after the accident. ❝ so, how are you holding up? ❞ he stood awkwardly at her bedside, hands shoved into his pocket. 

       ❝ well I’M ALIVE. ❞ she was angry, angry that they didn’t believe her, that they put themselves in danger, but she was also relieved that they were okay. stopping the smoking man, preventing the contagion, protecting william...that was what was important. and she succeeded. DESPITE IT ALL, she succeeded. ❝ i guess given the circumstances, that means i’m pretty good. ❞

JACKSON:

     ❝ well YEAH! you’ve been having the same visions as me. i thought they should know! ❞

MOM:

                    SCULLY IS ALL TOO WILLING to comfort her child, and as jackie divulges her fears for what’s to come, the older woman will simply shake her head.          “ i don’t want you worrying about these things… you’ve had to do that for far too long. ”          she pauses now, azure gaze searching her daughter’s features for any sign of hesitation before going on.          “ let me take on your fears, okay? i can handle it. i will protect you, even if that means protecting you from yourself. ”          nothing can stop the fbi agent from doing just that, her daughter and mulder the only people in her life that truly matter.

       jackie finally BREAKS then, a sob breaking free from her chest as she launches herself into her mother’s embrace. arms are flung around her neck, brown eyes turning to press into scully’s shoulder. and in that moment, jackie feels something she hasn’t felt in a long time: she feels safe. ❝ MOM... ❞ she hasn’t said it since her parents died. but with this woman, with her mother, it feels right, ❝ please...please let me come home ? ❞

CAT:

“Yes that’d be me, and who are you?”

       ❝ oh, i’m sorry ! IMRA ARDEEN. ❞ she offers her hand with a kind smile. then braces herself. most people she says this to immediately melt into judgement, and she’s not sure she’s ready for it. ❝ i’m mon-el’s WIFE. ❞

       that earns the president A LAUGH. it’s rare. meg almost never laughs, especially in public. she feels it disrupts the image she’s crafted so carefully. ❝ that should really be dc’s new tourist slogan: WASHINGTON DC: home of the boring dads. ❞

Cat nods at the woman’s question.”Yes, that’s correct.” She replies, and takes the offered hand. “Cat Grant.” She introduces herself. The woman knows who she ism there was really no need, but out of politeness she so anyway.. 

       her lips quirk again. it really is funny that they’re only meeting NOW. ❝ i think my daughter has a couple of classes with him. carter, right ? she’s a junior, but from what she tells me, your son is A BIT of a brainiac. ❞

MOM:

                    SHE WAITS TO RESPOND UNTIL all is said, but scully almost wishes she’d cut the other off sooner. the woman knows danger well, has known it for over twenty-five years now ( are they not companions at this point? ), and she doesn’t intend to shy away from it now. what she does next might be more fit for a younger child, but scully can’t stop herself before she’s releasing jackie’s hand and standing only to take a few steps to stand in front of the younger woman so that she can crouch down and gaze up at the girl. one hand rests at jackie’s knee once the other turns her body to face her, scully’s other hand lifting to cup her cheek.          “ no, that’s not how it is. it’s never been that way… i don’t deserve you, jackie. you’ve been a miracle since the day you were conceived. ”          though her words are shaky, scully is sure of what she’s saying.          “ we can protect you. we aren’t afraid. ”

       a miracle. she doesn’t FEEL like a miracle, she never has. her adoptive parents used to tell her that too, that she was the gift brought to a barren couple, but look how that turned out for them. ❝ honestly, i feel more like cain than jesus. ❞ her younger self would be laughing if she knew she reverted to A BIBLICAL REFERENCE at a time like this, but her mother’s in front of her, cupping her cheek and telling her it’s okay, and protests aside, she’s needed that. ❝ i just mean...how can you PROTECT ME when i’m the problem ? if you want me there i...honestly i don’t think i’m strong enough to say no but...i won’t blame you if you turn me away. ❞

                    JACKIE’S TONE MAKES HER CHUCKLE, and with one last squeeze she’ll pull away and plant her hands at her daughter’s shoulders; she doesn’t want her to go too far.          “ you are very right — there are far worse things in this world than being loved. ”          a hand lifts from jackie’s face to brush a stray piece of hair behind her ear before simply cupping the other’s face.          “ you’d tell me if you weren’t happy, right? ”

       ❝ something tells me i wouldn’t be able to LIE TO YOU even if i tried so...yeah, i’d let you know. ❞ she hasn’t known her parents long, but it’s already clear who’s in charge. besides, much as she enjoys her father’s company, she feels like she KNOWS SCULLY BETTER. if she were to raise concerns with anyone, it would be her mother. ❝ i um...i was wondering though...do you think we could stop by an art supply store at some point ? i really just need a SKETCHPAD or a notebook or something but...i miss drawing. ❞

MOM:

                    THOUGH SCULLY HOPES FOR A positive response from the young girl, she doesn’t expect… that. she can’t help but to chuckle softly as her gaze drops before picking back up to meet jackie’s eye.          “ yeah, i’m sure. you were… our first. and only. ”          though she’d never forgive herself for giving her daughter up once upon a time, at least they’re reunited now. things could be much worse. jackie is her and mulder’s miracle, and their reunion is an extension of that.          “ he’s a good man. always has been. ”

       ❝ well good. i’d hate to think i got 23 chromosomes FROM A JERK. ❞ she’s still teasing, which in itself is a sign of just how comfortable she’s become in her mother’s presence. a slightly sadder smile crosses her face then. ❝ i’m still getting used to that...HUMOR. dad jokes...weren’t really my other dad’s thing. i mean...he wasn’t cold or anything, he was A GOOD DAD, but... let’s just say he and the internet weren’t intimately acquainted. ❞
