we got drunk on this unholy wine, to deliver us from our old minds; the promise of a better time, 'til we’re feeling barely human... we don’t know what’s good for us, 'cause if we did, we might not do it... who knows where our limits lie? we won’t discover ‘til we push it...

jenna coleman, cisfemale, she/her, witch, bookshop owner. | i think i spotted adelaide beaumont out in the town square. isn’t that the thirty year old who’s been around vernon all her life ? from what i see they seem to be fairly valiant and reliable but they can also be very acerbic and resentful. when i see them i think of lace stockings, self-stirring cups of tea and vintage books.
born and raised in vernon, adelaide was the youngest daughter in a family of well to do witches. while she wasn’t a rebellious as her older sister --- adelaide never quite warmed to the idea of being the helping hand her parents atolled for.
often, her childhood was spent following after arabella, watching in amusement and delight as her sister defied the grain and did what she wanted. very easily and very quickly, addie came to adore her older sister, and consider her more of a mother than their own.
there wasn’t anything addie wouldn’t have done for bella --- whether it was burying a dead body, murdering a man, breaking her out of prison, or making sure she had food in her fridge.
bella was the one who taught addie everything she knew about magic. half her skill came from watching her sister, learning from her sister, and wanting to be just like her sister. ( addie often says she wouldn’t be half the person she is if it wasn’t for bella )
which is why it plainly, and easily, broke her heart to see her sister lost to dark magic. she felt quite powerless, unable to help her sister, unable to do anything really --- to the point where addie just... tried to do her best, tried to support her sister where she could
each time bella rolled back into town like a hurricane, addie would try and help her get clean --- to get back to the sister she knew and loved, often to no avail
but try as she might, addie couldn’t disconnect from her sister. she just couldn’t. it was addie and bella against the world, no matter what. and it always would be
as she grew older, she developed a deep fascination for books, history and all things similar. she eventually opened up a book shop here in town --- called black cat books. its your one stop shop for a good novel, some tarot readings, or even a spot of magic if you’ve got the money to burn
seven years prior, addie fell in love for the first time. it was the deep, all consuming fairy-tale type of love. despite what was happening with her sister, addie was convinced maybe, now, she’d be able to make a family of her own.
two years passed when the pair decided to get married --- and addie finally felt as if her life was making sense: only for tragedy to completely and utterly strike
learning her sister had slept with her fiancee was something that ruined addie. the sweet, hopeful girl she was? destroyed. gone. completely blown to smitheerns. her ability to trust was practically non-existant.
confronting her sister for what she’d done was apocalyptic --- she told her sister that she was dead to her, that she wanted nothing to do with her, and that it was best she leave town now, before she made arabella do so
confronting her fiancee was ruining. she threw the engagment ring at their head, their clothes into the street and said the same thing to them --- it was best they leave town before, before she made them do so
staying in vernon after that, was too hard. addie packed some clothes, hired help for the shop, and took off to paris for a year.
in paris, while some of her heart healed, it was still fractured. she wasn’t as riddled with pain while there, learning the language, working in an old magic shop. she meaningless affairs, breaking hearts left right and centre, because she was unable to open herself up like she had as a young woman
eventually, addie returned home and took over black cat books once more. she’s been back for the past four years, but considers her year away more of... an extended vacation, rather than a serious attempt to leave
she’s incredibly bitter. rough. rude and coarse. her words are always laced with acid and she usually doesn’t get along with anyone or anything. she’s still paying for the mistakes of her sister and ex-fiancee, and is likely, to never get over it
that being said, she’s incredibly steady when the time calls for it. she’s almost the direct opposite to her sister --- whereas bella is quite chaotic, addie is steadfast. she doesn’t blink, even when perhaps, she should
she’s loyal, sometimes to a fucking fault --- hence why she stood by her sister even in her darkest days of magic use.
all in all, addie’s just trying to get back. she’s got bills to pay and a life to lead. everything else is just noise she doesn’t need.

madchen amick, cisfemale, she/her, original vampire, law professor. | i think i spotted theodora out in the town square. isn’t that the 1,106 / 50 year old who’s been around vernon ten years ? from what i see they seem to be fairly pious and vigilant but they can also be very subdued and tormented. when i see them i think of half finished bottles of wine, dog-eared textbooks and smudged mascara.
in their village, theodora was the youngest of three sisters and one elder brother --- while not often overlooked, she was prone to being lost in a sea of well to do siblings.
this didn’t bother theo so much --- she wasn’t one who sought out attention, she wasn’t someone who wanted to be noticed or looked at. she liked obscurity. often considered an odd trait in her times, but that’s just what theo was, growing up --- somewhat odd around the edges.
life for the most part, was fine for theo as a child. while her family didn’t go hungry, life was tight. money and food was tight. their home was small. but unlike her sisters, theo never complained. she did her best to make life easier for her siblings and parents, wherever and whenever she could.
at sixteen, theo met aleksander. she was intrigued by the man --- thinking he was handsome in a way many other men weren’t, but like all things: theo didn’t pursue him. she was convinced, for a very long time, that he had the wrong sister. that he was looking for her elder sister, who was infinitely more beautiful, in theo’s mind.
she didn’t truly understand that they were courting till alek asked her to marry him --- she was stupid in love with him by that point of course, but she’d resigned to suffer in silence.
married life eased the burden on her family, and also allowed theo to somewhat break out of her shell. she was less odd, more self-assured. she trusted her instincts more, was truly strengthed by the bond and life she’d built with alek.
having three kids in three successive years however, nearly killed theo. not only were the pregnancies rough and the births tough; but being in constant pain and bed ridden following them was the hardest part.
( this is what lead to the vast age gap between her children. she told her husband while she loved him, and certainly wanted more children --- she needed time to heal. )
eventually, the two of them ended up having six kids together. theo literally and quite physically adores all of her children, no matter what --- and is incredibly supportive in her efforts as a mother.
however, there are dark moments where theo thinks she failed, such as the death of their youngest.
loosing freya is something that theo’s never recovered from. ever. for two weeks following her death at the hands of a werewolf, theo didn’t eat, sleep or drink anything. she stayed in bed, staring at the wall, crying when she could summon the energy. she was catatonic with grief.
she blamed herself in many ways, for not being present enough, for not doing more in trying to protect her child. ( these feelings only worsened when she saw how she had neglected her other children during her time of mourning. )
when alek approached her with the idea to turn into something stronger than werewolves --- theo had serious reservations. she wasn’t sure. she liked the idea of being able to protect her family, but she also longed to fade into obscurity once more. she wanted to hide herself away, after loosing freya.
eventually, it was the fear of loosing her children again like she had lost freya, that convinced theo to come around. she agreed --- and life hasn’t been the same since.
while alek was consumed by his darker instincts, theo embraced the light. she refuses to go a day without paying her respects to her youngest child, remembering her, ensuring she isn’t forgotten.
she became a law professor to ensure justice --- another aspect born out of her need to atone for her sins as freya’s mother.
since becoming a vampire and freya’s death, theo’s been more controlling than she was as a human. she’s deathly afraid of loosing her kids --- something that is only second to loosing alek. she’s quite the mama bear in her day to day world: and a part of her longs to once more be the family they were as humans
currently, theo’s been in vernon for the past ten years, and having her children back with her in one place. she’s looking forward to reconnecting where she can, but is also worried that so many supernatural have converged in one place
all in all --- theo has good days, and theo has bad days. she’s still wracked with grief and guilt for what happened to freya, for neglecting her children when mourning. she worries about what eternity will do to her family --- and already sees some elements of it in her children.
