Total Estimate – 14.8.2024
Mini Court:
$15,000
Premade:
$9,000 + $20,000 + $8,800 = $37,800
Gaming Equipment:
$2,000 + $1,100 + $1,500 = $4,310
Boat & Surf:
$17,000 + $8,773 = $25,773
All together:
$15,000 + $37,800 + $4,310 + $25,773 = $82,883
OVER BUDGET?!!
No worries! This was because whenever there was a "Between this price and this price," I always chose the most expensive option. We can fix this with $14,000 Climbing Equipment! :D Then our final price is $76,883!!!

Boat Playset:
Nishdirectplaysets.com sells a Commercial Pirate Ship playset at a starting price of $16,710. Commercial Pirate Ship playset costs $16,710, much cheaper than a naval boat which exceeds our Budget for one of those boats costs $100,000 to over $1 million, and that's a little bit out of the Budget.
Surfing Playset: Kids surfing boards typically cost anywhere between $200-$550 each. Summitsupply.com sells replacement springs for spring riders for $396.95 each, according to ecospecifier.com, the average cost of concrete is $200 and $300 per cubic meter. I'm sure if we asked really nicely, the people from The Men's Shed would set up the surfing spring riders for us
3x Kids Surfboards:
$500 x 3 = $1,500
3 Springs per Board:
3 x $397 x 3 = $3,573
Concrete:
9 x $300 = $2,700
Misc. (nuts, bolts, and such):
$1,000
Total Cost:
$1,500 + $3,573 + $2,700 + $1,000 = $8,773
3 kids' surfboards with springs and concrete foundation will cost $8,773.

Premade Budget – 10.8.2024
Trampoline: OZtrampolines.com says a 10x17 ft inground trampoline will cost around ~$4,500 and cost about $4,500 to install. So this will cost about $9,000.
Climbing Obstacle Set: Adventureplus.net says a playground set can cost between $10k to $20k Assuming a high estimate, the playground set will cost $20,000.
Undercover Area: Northshore uses shipping containers for most of its buildings and structures, so I thought why not use it for this?
ContainerTraders.com says a 40 ft shipping container for the undercover gaming area will cost approximately $8,800.

Mini Court Budget – 10.8.2024
Mini Tennis Court: Hipages.com says that a tennis court can cost anywhere range from $5,000 to $70,000, likely over Budget :(.
Golf Court: The area I want to create the Golfing area is 14m in length and 10m in width.
Jayprosports.com offers a permanent batting cage for $8,471. I estimate it to cost around $15,000 for materials, resources, and labour.

Fake Horse Track – 10.8.2024
This is what I think the fake horse race track would look like and how it would work if it were to be made

The Ideas Proposed - 7.8.2024
Small Tennis Court
Trampoline
Mini Golfing Area
Climbing Obstacle Set
Spring Surfing Boards
Fake Boat
Fake Horse Race Track
Undercover Area (includes Table Tennis, Air Hockey, Table Football, and Seating)
Budget Adjustments:
Over Budget: Consider removing the fake horse race track (since it’s that idea has never been done before which requires a lot of custom parts) or the undercover area.
Under Budget: Add a designated area for coffee vans (for very, very tired parents who are looking after their children) or a small race track/mini Badminton court.

Before the Budget- 7.8.2024
Some equipment and courts will be child-sized versions. We're targeting children aged 5-8, with an average height of 120 cm, which is 31.66% smaller than the average adult. We'll base our Budget on equipment and courts being 2/3 of their original size

Similar Projects – 2.8.2024:
Olympic-Inspired Activities:
There are many sites online that give people ideas on activities they can do with toddlers and smaller children that are inspired by the Olympics. However, these ideas are just for activities people and parents can do at home with children rather than a whole park dedicated to these activities.
Olympic Park
In Sydney there is a place called ‘Olympic Park’, but it is just a normal council park with beautiful scenery that happens to have that name. It hosts some of Sydney’s biggest events like sporting matches and it also hosts concerts. Both fortunately and unfortunately, there does not seem to be many similar projects to the toddler Olympics Park that I am proposing.

Choosing an idea – 6.8.2024: This Idea:
is interactive
has the potential to be revisited multiple times over years to come
will be deliverable over the next 1-3 years
engages a target audience
will attract people on days other than just Eat Street days
will most likely become a permanent feature and remain engaging for the next 10+ years

Choosing an idea – 2.8.2024:
Why Idea 2 won’t work:
After some research into the 20year plan EDQ (Economic Development Queensland) has presented, I found on yoursay.edq.qld.gov.au that they already have plans in place for creating more shaded areas in Northshore.
(This information was also later confirmed by my tutor) My idea stemmed from the idea to create a place for workers, residents and visitors to Northshore that has shade and a place to cool down; especially considering how hot QLD summers can get. However, I came to the conclusion (and was advised) to not pursue this idea any further.

Comparing ideas – 2.8.2024:
Idea 1
Challenge 2:
Toddler Olympics for little children and their parents.
Idea originality:
Although there are a few ‘Olympic Parts’, those are meant for actual sports rather than the focus being on an area for smaller children where they can have fun – which is the aim of my idea.
My Opinion:
Kids would love to come here
It would create an environment where memories will be made.
Parents would like their children to be active, so they would return
It might give parents a glimpse into what sports their children might be interested in (or good at) in the future.
Idea 2
Challenge 1:
Sea-themed BBQ Picnic area for the people who work there.
Idea originality:
Although there are BBQ spaces all over Australia, there are very few themed ones, much less ones focused around the sea. This is not only original, but it also fits in well with the well-established theming of the Northshore area.
My Opinion:
Teenagers and young adults would like going on dates and take pictures here.
It would create a lovely gathering spot for the locals who work here/live close by.
It would enhance the already beautiful scenery

Brainstorming part 2 – 01.08.2024
Challenge 1:
Try to get the community together.
When visiting the site it was a sunny day and the lack of shade is a very obvious challenge.
There was barely and seating, so it would make it difficult for people to get together (gathering point), and therefore no attraction for people to come out of their workshops.

The idea:
Create an area with shade and seating where people can gather together. An idea for this is to set up something like a gazebo that keeps in line with the existing sea theme.

Challenges with the site:
Site 1:

sea themed
barely any seating
minimal shade
made out of metal
large open area
only the fourth Workshop is decorated
Site 2:

Large open area
Lots of plants
Hill in the centre of the grassed area
Close to the river
Limited seating and shade

Visiting the site – 01.08.2024
First Impressions:
Northshore was very pretty and you can notice sea-themed structures and resources and it is very bright and colourful. It was very hot and there was very little shade.
What the client wants:
Challenge 1:
Something that will bring the existing community together (e.g. The men’s shed, The tool library, science people, etc.)
Challenge 2:
Create an attraction (physical, event, group, etc.), that attracts people to visit Northshore on all days – not just the days dedicated to Eat Street.
Attraction needs to be able to be visited multiple times and be able to retain/interest recurring guests.

Brainstorming – 28.7.2024
I chose challenge 2.
Criteria:
Be original, innovative and aligns with the vision
Compliments the future civic park
Takes a place-based approach
Budget between $40K and $70K
Engage a target audience
Encourage interaction
Be deliverable in the next 1-3years
Take a ‘light touch’ approach
Has the potential to be revisited in years to come
The Idea:
Create an Olympic-inspired Children’s Playground. The Playground will include mini versions of some if the most exciting and popular sports played in the 2023 Olympics.
