What is Reinforcement Steel?

Reinforcement steel bars exhibit higher thermal resistance even at temperatures up to 600° C. The retention of significant strength or, in other words, resistance to softening, is attributed to design of steel chemistry, presence of tempered marten site layer on the rebar surface and absence of any cold worked structural zone.

The Strongest Metals on Earth - Adamantium or Vibranium?

The two most famous metals on the earth also happen to be the strongest. Fictionally, unfortunately, or fortunately because who knows for what they might have been used if they existed. Definitely wouldn’t want them to be used for weapons.

Pitting the two metals against each other, which one would be stronger? Would Wolverine be stronger than the Black panther? Or vice versa?

We did some research into the metals and found some interesting facts. 

Let’s take a look at some of the properties of both the metals:

Vibranium - Vibranium is a rare metal believed to have originated from a meteor, 10,000 years ago, which hit the eastern part of Africa, Wakanda (origin not confirmed).

The metal is said to absorb vibrations and sound waves and store them within its molecular bonds, which makes the metal even harder to destroy. 

As seen in the Black Panther suit, the vibrations that are absorbed through the forces it is hit with are released explosively into the field. The energy stored within the metal can be tapped.

It is one-third the weight of the steel and conducts electricity.

Adamantium - Adamantium is a manmade metal, just like steel. 

Dr Myron Maclain, a young scientist, tried to fuse steel and Vibranium but failed on many accounts. However, the fusion occurred with some unknown X-factor when he dozed off one night. That unknown factor remains a mystery as no trace of it has been found. This metal is Proto-Adamantium and it is used as Captain America’s shield.

Maclain tried to replicate the metal but failed again. He then came up with an alloy that was close to Adamantium without Vibranium. It was created when two components melted together and cast within 8 minutes. The components are kept in resin blocks.  

When heated, resin evaporates and the components are fused together at a temperature of 815°C. It is allowed to set and the result is an extremely strong, dense metal. Once set, it cannot be altered or manipulated.

The molecular structure of Adamantium is quite stable, even when it is liquified at high temperature.

The metal can cleanly cut through the other metals. It is practically indestructible, as you’ve seen in the Wolverine and X-men movies. 

There are many different types of Adamantium like Proto-Adamantium, True Adamantium, Secondary Adamantium, etc. 

Are Adamantium and Vibranium real?

Adamantium and Vibranium are not real. They are created as fictional metals in the comic book of the Marvel Universe.

The closest metal to Adamantium to exist in real-life is titanium. It is an alloy of steel that is way harder than the stainless steel. 

Another metal that could possibly come close to having the extraordinary properties of Adamantium and Vibranium is the Graphene metal. It is the thinnest metal, yet also one of the strongest. It is harder than diamond, but elastic than rubber, tougher than steel, and lighter than aluminium. 

Scientists are working to tap into the potential of graphene and make the powdered form into a sheet. If successful, it can withstand the weight of an elephant without cracking. 

Steel is one of the most hardest, ductile, versatile metals on earth with properties that can come close to those of Adamantium. Well, some types of steel can. Steel is quite stable, like the steel price in Bangalore. It can withstand heavy force due to its tensile strength.

Adamantium vs Vibranium

However, the only metal that can possibly destroy the Adamantium is the Antarctica Vibranium, otherwise known as Anti-metal.

We have seen many instances from the Wolverine movie where Adamantium has endured countless attacks and still stands strong and un-distructed. But so has Vibranium. Cap’s shield was destroyed by Thanos with his infinity gauntlet. Maybe only godlike powers can dent or destroy the metal. 

Guess we have to wait for an actual fight to take place between two characters with each metal and see the outcome.

5 Amazing Famous Steel Structures in the World

Steel is the most versatile, sustainable material for the construction of buildings and infrastructure. Because steel gives a lot of open spaces with fewer components, it allows architects to design innovative structures in the most creative ways possible. 

Structural steels are used in construction for their strength, weldability, corrosion-resistance, and versatile nature. They come in I-beams, TMT bars, pipe, MS angles, flats, and more. The rate of TMT bars depends on brands.

1. Torre Helea

There are no boundaries in architectural designs, leaving enough space for creativity and brilliance with aesthetics. Torre Helea is an excellent example of that brilliance, which was constructed in Puebla City, Mexico in 2019. It is a 468ft tall apartment complex designed in the form of a corkscrew.

The core of the building is a steel-reinforced concrete cylindrical tower, housing staircases and elevators. It partly supports the structure of the apartments. Each floor is radially spread from the tower, rotating anti-clockwise at an angle of 15° from the previous floor, like a propeller. There are 33 floors and 3 apartments on each. 

The high strength of steel supports the columns and cross beams on which the floor span rests. The simplicity and slenderness of steel used for construction have allowed the builders to create vast open spaces in the apartments.

2. Museum of Future 

The innovative design of the museum in Torus shape is ahead of time, hence justifying its name - the museum of future. The museum will exhibit and showcase futuristic technologies in auto-sector, medical, education, and health fields.

Constructed in Dubai, the museum looks a lot simpler in design than most buildings, but it’s quite complex. Each floor inside is free of columns, so there is a lot of space around. On the outside, the building is covered by 890 steel panels with calligraphy cut on them. The phrases are taken from a poem written by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The cut out parts are covered with glass fibre reinforced plastics that act as windows and will be lit up at night. 

The steel panels are fixed on a framework of 2,400 diagonally intersecting steel-beams. Because of steel’s adaptability and strength, it was chosen over concrete. The museum was constructed in just 14 months and is set to open in October 2021.

3. Blagoveshchensk-Heihe cable car

Connecting  2 countries and cultures is the Blagoveshchensk-Heihe cable car, the world’s first international cable car built across the Amur river. The cable car will transport the passengers from one city to another in just 3 and a half minutes. It is expected to commence functioning in 2022.

The terminal at each end is designed with modern tastes, using steel as the main component. The Blagoveshchensk terminal will have restaurants, boarding platforms, a terrace with a view of the river and Heihe city. Each cable car can hold 60 passengers and their luggage. 

Steel cantilevers, steel beams and steel columns are an integral part of the design because steel is quite versatile and has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than any other material. Its slenderness allows more floor space and open-span areas. 

4. Canakkale 1915 bridge

The Canakkale 1915 bridge will be the world’s longest suspension bridge, at 3.7Km once completed. It is being built over the Dardanelles Strait in the Canakkale province of Turkey. It will open in 2023 and will connect 2 districts - Gelibolu and Lapseki. The bridge was planned to manage the traffic congestion, and improve socio-economic tourism & growth. 

The bridge will employ massive 128,000 tonnes of steel. The 45 meters wide concrete deck of with a road surface will be supported by longitudinal steel box beams which will be interconnected by steel cross beams. The towers will sit a pair of steel platform at 318 meters in the sky will make the bridge the fourth tallest in the world.

5. Huangtengxia Glass corridor 

This glass corridor in China is the highest in the world, opened in 2019. It offers a spectacular view of the mountains and the surrounding scenery. The corridor lies at 1640ft from the ground, and it looks like 2 huge rackets perpendicular to each other. It's 1104 ft long and has 6cm thick glass on it. The glass is 99.9% transparent, the world’s most advanced glass and a single piece of glass is about 15 square meters big, also the world’s biggest. 

The circular footbridge has 450 water nozzles installed around on the underside for the waterfall. At night, light shows with music are played to which the waterfall dances. It’s an amazing sight of light, sound and nature.

The corridor can withstand a weight of 400 ton and it's completely safe to walk on it. It is supported by 3 tall steel and concrete pillars.
