I think people don't actually know what Andrew means when he says he hates Neil. He doesn't mean he actually hates Neil, that'd be an obvious lie. He means he hates that he wants Neil, when everything else he's ever wanted has turned to ash under his touch. He means he hates Neil because feeling apathetic about everything and everyone is much less painful than finding out you actually do care. He hates Neil because Neil gives him something to live for and when you've lived years on survival mode you'll find that living is much harder than dying.

A magic au where Andrew and other Monsters are werewolfs that live in a forest and once Witch!Neil tries to hide in it. Andrew catchs a runner and gives an aggressive warnings to leave. Neil tells some halftruths and they make a deal: Neil will leave the forest in one month. Over this time they get closer. And then a pack of werewolves called Ravens attack Andrew's pack. Neil gets into a fight, show how strong his powers are and gets really tired and injured after. Andrew lays Neil in his(Andrew's) bed and just stare with love. Next morning a sleep disheveled Neil wakes up and released it is a first day of new month. And the first thing he will say would be something like "im sorry im there, i will leave now im sorry". And he is still tired and powerless he cant stay on his own legs, so Andrew just calls him an idiot and grabbs into his hands, cause what you mean it was a first person to protect him and stay near him and he wants to leave now? Or no Andrew won't let him do that.
