Album Review: 'Five' by Chris Boddington
Key Quote: "We are thankful Chris has ripped up the rule book here. An awesome collection of songs".
Five is released on 23-May-25 and is a extended player of 8 songs...
1. Invisible Man
The original version of the track that inspired/launched a 100 remixes. It opens with chic-style guitar riff and although there's no details of the vocalist given, its a mixture of talking and semi-rap. The lyrics are to be not taken literally, but rather a feeling of being invisible and being set free by the music. Epic opener.
2. Do It
Cool 80s style electronic bass riff opens this track with old skool style rapping. The bridge section gives way to piano and strings for a nice little interlude before a strong final section.
3. Hustlin'
This song grabs the attention from the off with an unsual (but catchy as hell) banjo riff and then some slide guitar. The rap over the top works very well and overall gives the song a 'Old Town Road' kinda vibe. The stand out track so far purely based on the originality of the arrangement.
4. Marrakech
A middle-eastern style song which until the vocals come in could be from a Hans Zimmer soundtrack. Interestingly, the rap vocals and the various effects scattered throughout work very well.
5. Odyssey
We have a cohesive theme developing for this collection of tracks which is soundtrack-esque instrumentation with old style rap vocals. This one has some great hip-hop style beats which are the glue to the different styles. On paper, this shouldn't work - but it definitely does!
6. Say Your Prayer
The break-beats continue with an excellent and sparse piano to set the scene. Female rap vocals take the lead here and offer a new dynamic to proceedings. An instrumental horn break adds more depth to this track with a extended build into what I thought would be the final chorus - but this kinda fizzles out towards the end instead which a shame.
7. I Like When You
Funky percussion make this a very danceable track and when the synth arpeggios come in, you'd better be out of your chair. This is very slick production and a nice bit of George Benson style guitar toward the end. My only gripe is that this song is just too short - time to play it again then...
8. Loca
Latino-rap song which turns into a Chemical Brothers style mash up. Again, we are thankful Chris has ripped up the rule book here. An awesome finish to an excellent collection of songs.
Despite being original in terms of musical styles and production, this collection of songs hangs together more cohesively than the previous long-player 'Love Ting'.

Album Review: 'Constant Night' by Alpha Chrome Yayo
Key Quote: "This new instrumental offering has a more laid-back melodic feel than the previous release."
The new instrumental 10 track album was released on 24-May-24 by Belfast based artist Alpha Chrome Yayo (Peter Gordon McCaughan). This new offering has a more laid-back melodic feel than previous release 'Heart Engine'.
1. Swallow Me Whole, Sweet Starless Sky
The opener offers a glimpse into the 'untethered twilight' world. Its jaunty melodic riff takes you by the hand and leads you into the unknown.
2. Twilight Calligrapher
I find this an interesting track purely because when you lose the rigid structure of the percussion or beat, it really does open up the possibilities of different directions to explore at your own pace.
3. Drifting 62 Miles Above Sea Level (Frozen Solid)
Set against an ambient industrial landscape, the journey has now truly begun and we get the feeling it's not all going to be all plane-sailing.
4. Moonlight Bind Us
The percussive synth keeps up the journey's tempo and is placed with a beautiful synth of not quite (but almost) random notes.
5. The Unremitting Throbbing Of Things Undone
A droning synth bass gives this song a darker edge than the other songs experienced so far. When a guitar riff and solo come floating by we are entering new territory. My favourite track so far.
6. A Single Translucent Thread Floating Through Space
Hauntingly beautiful lead synth riff against a space-like pad. Simple but very effective.
7. Visions Of Rust
Ladies and Gentlemen we have percussion! We are shifting through the gears now.
8. Gracious Return To Flesh And Form
The journey continues but it feels like we are treading water slightly here.
9. Wherever, Become Your Own Master
This song has its own independent style and more defined structure compared to the others on the album. Although the bell-like percussion shows a comforting return. Possibly my new favourite (time will tell).
10. Constant Night
The title song feels like we are starting to awaken from the dream and back to reality.
In conclusion...
By ditching the words, ACY has really let his musicianship shine through in this collection of songs. Some have a free-style meandering approach and others feel tamed but never tethered in style.

Album Review: 'Memento Mori' by Depeche Mode
Key Quote: "It's taken me a year to review this album - a year of letting it's flawed brilliance permeate through me."
As the length of time gets longer between albums (Spirit was released 6 years before Memonto Mori), we have to wonder how many more we can expect from Depeche Mode. Having just completed a huge world tour, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore will inevitably be thinking about solo projects. But maybe this time we can expect something a little bit sooner from DM - perhaps even a surprise album with no tour..?
1. My Comos Is Mine
This is more of an album prologue than an actual song, although it does have some words set against an industrial soundscape. In my opinion, although not an easy listen, it does serve a purpose, which is to set up the next song perfectly. But, I'll never understand why it was released as the 2nd single from the album - that did have me worried...
2. Wagging Tongue
The 3rd single released starts with some classic DM synth and suddenly everything in the world is ok again. 'Watch another angel die' is not everyone's choice for a song chorus, but it does work wonderfully and is somehow catchy as hell. This is co-written by Martin Gore and Dave Gahan.
3. Ghosts Again
Released as the 1st single before the album release and upon 1st listen, this could only ever be Depeche Mode. Stripped back production from James Ford (Artic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Pet Shop Boys) really let the guitar and vocals breathe. When placed in an album context, you could be forgiven for thinking we are going to get a concept album about death and re-birth.
4. Don't Say You Love Me
Something you don't hear too often in Depeche Mode songs are orchestral strings - but they are prominant in this song. It's an interesting sound when combined with guitar and sub-bass synth. But, it's Dave Gahan's vocals that gels everything together. This another song (as well as Ghosts Again) co-written by Martin Gore and Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs).
5. My Favourite Stranger
This track stands out for me immediately, a great guitar, bass synth and percussion introduction followed by crunching guitar hook. The vocals give way to the music around 1:30 mark and the song really takes off. It's a bold move but it works well and when the vocals come back in, it becomes the best arranged song on the album.
6. Soul With Me
So now it's time for the Martin Gore sung song. I've really enjoyed listening to the 'Martin songs' on the recent tour. But in my opinion, this one doesn't stand out as much as those. It's a little bit of a plodder - there I've said it!
7. Caroline's Monkey
This song about addiction doesn't really hit home with me either. Musically, I feel it's disjointed and patched together. Lyrically, although I get the metaphor, it does jar a little and feels out of place.
8. Before We Drown
For me, this was instantly my favourite track on the album and I was glad it was released as a single and later included in their live set. It has all the elements of a perfectly crafted synthpop song but then at 2:50 is taken up several notches. It really is spine tingling stuff and like 'Cover Me' from the Spirit album, it gives a nod in the direction of synth pioneers Kraftwerk.
9. People Are Good
The final (probably) single from the album has DM trying to find the good in people. Although quite bass heavy, this has a catchy vocal melody although I'm not sure it's single material.
10. Always You
A guitar free song gives this a pre-Violator feel to it and is a refreshing change on the album. Also, its worth noting there is a lack of droning bass which is present in a lot of the other songs.
11. Never Let Me Go
Back with the guitar then and there's nothing too offensive about this song, but it doesn't really grab me either.
12. Speak To Me
This slow burner serves as the album's epilogue. An understated, yet powerful song where again the stripped back music really showcases Dave Gahan's vocals which I have to say sound better than ever on this album.
In conclusion...
Well, it's taken me a year to review this album - a year of letting it's flawed brilliance permeate through me. Although it's not a perfect album, Memento Mori (Remember Death) was definitely worth the long wait.

Album Review: 'Nineteen Eighty-Fur' by Cat Temper
Key Quote: "The goal-posts have shifted once again in terms of songwriting and production, as well as videos and artwork "
Hot on the heels of last year's 'Mystic Kitten', comes a brand new 8-track release from the one and only Cat Temper.
1. Fur Warning
The epic other-worldly opener transports us to a Jean-Michel Jarre style alien landscape. This track builds beautifully using a strong repeating synth riff - we are on our way!
2. Take Your Whiskers Home
Something a little more light hearted and funkier for track 2. Riff after riff and hook after hook keep coming.
3. Pawnama
The slightly darker 'Pawnama' is track 3 and the the highlight for me here is the unusual bass which takes the lead in places. There's even a nod to the Spaghetti Westerns buried in here - blink and you'll miss it.
4. Happy Tails
Lead single from the album and if you've not seen the video for this, do so now. Ok done that? Good. The song (as well as the video) is inspired by 80s classic Synthpop tunes like Aha's Take On Me amongst others. A fine tribute.
5. Jamie's Meowin'
This one could be taken from the 'Drive' soundtrack. Think about driving through a neon lit cityscape. My personal favourite from this collection both musically and from the production and mixing perspective.
6. One Paw Out The Door
This could be part 2 of track 5 - a gear shift and we leave the city behind and down the open road. It has a more optimistic feel as a the new day dawns.
7. Women And Kittens First
Possibly the strongest intro on the album due to the killer synth riff and when the cow-bell comes in, I'm tapping my feet.
8. Purruption
The final song is slick and (quite annoyingly) the main riff stays with you long after it's finished.
In conclusion...
This isn't just another Cat Temper album, the goal-posts have shifted once again in terms of songwriting and production as well as videos and artwork.

Album Review: 'Come Find Me' by Daniel Sefbom
Key Quote: "This collection of tracks never takes the obvious route but finds it way via unexplored less travelled methods. Take the trip!"
The 8 track LP 'Come Find Me' was released in November 2023 by Swedish artist Daniel Sefbom and is a collection of engaging electronic instrumentals.
Come Find Me
Having written a few songs myself that were inspired by the Blade Runner film, I get the strong sense that this track is using the same source. Futuristic and otherworldly, with fantastic stereo FX pulsing through my headphones - it sets up this collection very nicely. Having no percussion, it really lets the electronica punch through the mix.
2. Greenland Shark
Anyone that's seen David Attenborough's TV programmes should know about the Greenland Shark. For those that haven't, it's a huge blind creature that swims the oceans under the ice and can live upto 500 years old. This track transports you into it's dark world. There's a prominant bass synth and some minimal percussion to help you along the way which turns out to be more and more uplifting as you progress.
3. Nothing Is Nothing
Things start to warm up with 'Nothing Is Nothing'. This track has a bit of a Tech House feel to it. It's the first track with 'full' percussion and what I think is some real bass guitar which adds another dimension.
4. Tipping Point
'Tipping Point' uses some English spoken word verses over a heavier and darker synth sound. Distorted words and synth combine to deliver a powerful track.
5. Within Cells
I like the build up on 'Within Cells' as well as the robotic vocal phrases. Slightly more experimental than the other tracks it has offbeat snare drums which compliment it nicely.
6. Emanator
I really rate highly all the introductions on these tracks and this one is no exception. For me, the rest of the track isn't quite as engaging although having said that it might work well as a TV drama chase sequence perhaps.
7. Nothing Is Something
The introduction has a great sense of space before the beat and pulsing synth kick in at around the 1 minute mark. It slowly morphs into a different style before turning a full 360 degrees and finding itself again. This version is the album extended mix.
8. More Human Than Humans
Once the glitchy intro (which I love) has finished, the final track treats us to uptempo rhythm and percussion - this one turns into a real foot-tapper! The tropical flavours are just starting to come through but all too soon our journey comes to an end.
We've been across the world, beneath the ocean and into outerspace. This collection of tracks never takes the obvious route but finds it way via unexplored less travelled methods. Take the trip!

Album Review: 'Scala Hearts' by NINA & Ricky Wilde
Key Quote: "The songs are crafted and catchy as hell - so whats not to love about this record?!"
The 9 track LP 'Scala Hearts' was released in September 2023 by Synthwave Queen NINA and 80s Legendary Producer Ricky Wilde (yes, he's the brother and guitarist for Kim). So, this really is a match made in heaven...
Videotheque
The opening song sets up album fabulously with a duet on the vocals and some soaring guitar. This one is definetely a grower, but by the end you'll be chanting '... At the Videotheque'. My apetite has been whetted...
2. Causeway
The biggest single from the album is more restrained than the opener. Lush production, epic drums and a guitar riff to die for are the key ingredients here. NINA picks up lead vocal duties. I've been lucky enough do a remix of this and have to say it's hard to improve on perfection.
3. LA Dreamers
Similar to Causeway only in that the production is also slightly more stripped down which allows the song to really breathe. The highlight is the vocal 'Whoa ohh Whoa ohh' riff and Ricky's and NINA's harmonies on the Chorus.
4. Fade Me Out
Heavenly vocals and arpeggiated synths open this one but it then takes a darker turn with a full-on rock chorus. The contrast between verse and chorus is maybe a little too severe for some.
5. Living In Sin
A slightly sinister introduction and a nice little breakbeat combine to be make this a slightly different offering from the others. Although, it shys away from delivering the full blown chorus it deserves.
6. Gold Heart
NINA takes the lead on 'Gold Heart' and pulls us into what is the possibly the most catchy chorus on the album (and in fact I've heard for some time). Truly spine-tingling stuff especially when Ricky's vocals begin to harmonise.
7. Night And Day
My favourite part of the song is the little understated stereo guitar riff before the chorus. I also love how this song develops into a rock cresendo towards the end. An unexpected but very welcome twist.
8. Fighter
Big drums alternate with piano and fighting-talk lyrics deliver a big punch. A sing-a-long chorus bring this one home.
9. Lovers On A Beach
This faster tempo closer has essence of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' dancefloor classic. The extended length allow some artistic freedom towards the end and the synths are really let loose. This one feels like a 12" extended mix and clocks in at 6:38. What a way to end a finish up!
There's going to be obvious comparisons mentioned I'm sure between Kim and NINA styles and that's a big compliment. Yes, the production is purposely rooted firmly in the 80s, but the songs are crafted and catchy as hell - so what's not to love about this record?!

Album Review: 'Heart Engine' by Alpha Chrome Yayo
Key Quote: "For an ACY album, you have to expect the unexpected."
‘Heart Engine’ is the new 8 track album released on 10-Nov-23 by Belfast based artist Alpha Chrome Yayo. Par for the course for an ACY album, you have to expect the unexpected. So, I let the first listen wash over me then I inspected it a little closer…
1. All That Matters
Initially a little chaotic, this opener with freestyle organ does eventually find itself. For some reason I’m getting Frank Zappa vibes and then the humorous ‘Speak and Spell’ style vocals punctuate the music and I’m back in the present decade. It’s short and sweet.
2. Heart Engine
This one is a different direction altogether - if it’s not an insult I’d describe it as chill or lounge music. It's a laid-back instrumental with a nice horn section, funky bass and even some pan-pipes for good measure. It’s also very melodic and has an old-fashioned fade out at the end - love it.
3. Dancing Is Love
So this one may split the listener's opinion - musically it’s very easy on the ear but the vocals are erm… not. Some kind of vocal changer is going on here I think but the lyrics do suffer because of it. I had to look them up and it was all about looking forward all week to dancing the weekend away. A good theme but not my favourite so far.
4. Stock Exxxchange
The market is open! Although the vocals have been manipulated here as well, we can hear the words this time around. This is a short essay about life in the financial City - I now feel qualified to buy high and sell low? It's an original sounding jaunty little number - what’s not to like?
5. Like A Mystery
Some wizard guitar playing on this one along with some beautiful electric piano and I’m already hooked. Although the lyrics are a little difficult to hear, this time it doesn’t seem to matter as much - it’s all about the vibe.
6. Snow Blossoms
That same vibe continues on this instrumental and I’m back in the lounge sipping an Old Fashioned cocktail.
7. Tuxedos And Tears
Out of all the vocal FX this one seems to work the best - somewhere between Daft Punk and a melodic Robbie The Robot. But what stands out on this track for me is the funky bass synth and piano riff which takes this track up a level. It’s one of my favourites on the album and it feels like we are just getting started.
8. I Wish I Was Watching X Files With You
ACY has saved the best ‘til last - I absolutely love this right from the very beginning. The house piano sounds sublime and the synth hooks are hooky. The vocals and lyrics add something special to the mix and the end result is one very catchy pop song.
This is a mini-album really and I was disappointed when it came to end so soon (yes I know I can replay it forever). I just wanted to hear more new songs, especially in the vein of the last two. So I’ll be very interested to see which direction we go in next from Alpha Chrome Yayo - but I'm sure the humour will still flow...

Album Review: 'The Fifth Step' by Rogue FX
Key Quote: "Some great stand-alone tracks threaded together with inventive dialogue."
‘The Fifth Step’ was released in August this year (2023) and as far as I’m aware is the debut long (or extended) player from UK based Synthwave artist Rogue FX (aka Andrew Wood). I’ve heard some of the previously released singles from Rogue FX and they’ve whetted my appetite for exploring his songs a little deeper.
1. Think About The Future
A short but tantilising taster of what’s about to be unleashed…
2. The Fifth Step
Arcade game style synth intro gives way to a ‘S-Express’ style bass-line. Although the infectious music is rooted in 80s Synthwave, the vocals are a little more soulful and free-flowing which is a nice overall mix.
3. Welcome To Mind Corps
Another short interlude in what is developing into a ‘Total Recall’ type narrative for the album.
4. Psychology
On this 2nd full song, there’s a neat little synth ear-worm from the very start which develops into multiple hooks. This is a great pop-song and the instrumental breaks really shine through inbetween the vocal sections.
5. Mind Melt Alert
The kind of warning you don’t really want to hear when taking a virtual drive through the countryside.
6. Chaos Theory
A funky bass-line leads the way and gives me a ‘Heaven 17’ kind of vibe which of course is no bad thing. It also has that ‘Heaven 17’ slick production and mixing quality - yes the Sheffield steel is strong in this one.
7. Crisis In Med Bay 4
Another short interlude but this time with a breezy musical accompaniment.
8. Drifting
The synth arpeggios continue from the last song into this one which is about ‘Drifting’ into some kind of nightmare-ish mind journey. The chirpy music is a little at odds with the nature of the lyrics when in context of the album. But, it works much better as a standalone pop song.
9. Reborn
The final short piece concludes the journey and all's well that ends well. However, I felt a bit short changed when it finished. This one definitely needs to be developed and extended into a full song. Perhaps it will at some point in the future.
I won’t use the words ‘Concept Album’ here as this is more of a short story with some great stand-alone tracks threaded together with some inventive dialogue. Coming in at 20 minutes long it’s a perfect length for short escape into the future - so give it a whirl.
I will be looking out for future releases from Rogue FX with great interest.

Album Review: 'Mystic Kitten' by Cat Temper
Key Quote: "The production and mixing are absolutely spot-on and my headphones were loving the stereo FX sprinkled throughout".
The 8 track Mystic Kitten album released on 13-Oct-23 is, amazingly, the 4th long player in the last 2 years from Cat Temper. I’ve listened to the previous releases, so I was looking forward to hearing Mystic Kitten for the first time…
1. Welcome To My Nightmeow
Epic sounding drums start the proceedings before giving way to pulsing bass and guitar. This is one hook laden track and a fantastic opener to the album.
2. Last Cat On Earth
This track has a more of a Moog-ish analogue feel to it and is perhaps less obviously cat-chy (damn! I've started with the puns) on the first listen, but this appeals to me more somehow.
3. Purranormal
This bass synth driven song again takes us in another funkier direction. This one is slightly less appealing to me than the previous two songs, maybe just down to its slower tempo.
4. House Of Fur
Some velvet sounding electric piano features heavily in this song as well some wonderful synth riffs. The song flies by and leaves me wanting more - rewind…
5. Hisslexia
The intro of this song is in my opinion just purr-fect (no going back now) and although the rest of the song doesn’t quite match up to it, luckily, we get glimpses of it again throughout.
6. Cat In A Dream
Another strong intro and this develops into a beautiful (and apt) dream-like landscape. The synth riffs have a slight chip-tune feel to them which is no bad thing.
7. Under My Paws
This one has a futuristic dystopian vibe about it, so is definitely in-keeping with the Synthwave genre rules. But perhaps the rules need to be broken every now and again?
8. Lace And Whiskers
The last song on the album picks up the baton where the previous one left off and goes one step darker still. It has cat-itude! (sigh). The cinematic feel to this song screams ‘movie soundtrack’ and I can visualise the end credits rolling to it…
Bad cat puns aside, this is a serious Synthwave album which I think nudges the genre along from the 80s to give some of the songs a more contemporary feel. Some, in my opinion, are crying out for a vocal melody top-line but others are perfect instrumental pop songs just as they are. The production and mixing are absolutely spot-on and my headphones were loving the stereo FX sprinkled throughout.
Well done to Mr. Cat Temper - another great album.

Album Review: 'A Sense Of Unease' by Kiffie
Key Quote: "It’s a real ‘heart on your sleeve’ collection and well worth repeated listens".
I’m not quite sure how many of these songs I’ve heard before, but I do know that many have featured in my ‘Indie Synth 2023’ Spotify playlist over the past few months. So, it’s a pleasure to hear them again as part of this 9 track album released on 31-Oct-23…
1.The End
We start at The End with this haunting piano-led ballad which musically grows throughout the song length. Vocally, I can see how this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I like how Kiffie’s voice contrasts with the bubbly synth-laden music. Lyrically, it’s quite an inspiring uplifting song despite the title.
2. Hard To Breathe
A beautiful piano melody circles through this heart-felt song about a relationship breakdown. I love the descriptive title of this one - for those that have been there, it says it all.
3. Take A Break
The introduction to this hits the right note with me immediately. Put very simply, this is Synthpop perfection! The vocals sit smoothly on top of the whirling arpeggios and this is my favourite song so far.
4. Goodbye At Last
Beautiful piano instrumental with strong hooks. I can see why Kiffie thought there was no need to add any words as it speaks volumes already.
5. All Yours (Feat. Voyage)
Two massively contrasting vocal styles on this one and the song works well because of it. Voyage’s break-neck speed rap also contrasts vividly with the steady rhythm of the piano. Overall, this is a change of direction to what we’ve previously heard.
6. Sense Of Unease
The album title track and lyrically this song really hits home. Again, Kiffie’s vocal style adds to the song’s overall Sense Of Unease. The chorus is very catchy and almost too sing-a-long given the song’s title.
7. Learning To Sing
Although this is another piano-led song, it has a slightly different feel to the others. The unusual backing vocals give this a hymn-like quality. Lyrically, it takes us through the seasons - happily landing in Summer where the lovers reunite.
8. One Look
Musically, this one has a jaunty upbeat feel but does feel a little on the bland side relatively speaking. Lyrically, I like the repetitive ‘One Look’ hook throughout but feel overall, it’s just a little too ‘wordy’ for my taste.
9. The Light Inside
Unexpected but very welcome guitar introduction which develops into piano and synth finale. Again the chorus is catchy and this has all the ingredients of a great pop-song. I’d also like to hear any remixes done of this song which might perhaps make more of the guitar riffs.
This album has been a pleasure to listen to and I’m keen to explore Kiffie’s extensive back catalogue of other material. As an album it hangs together extremely well. Perhaps if it were me I’d re-order some of the tracks - but that’s hardly a criticism when all the tracks are so accomplished. It’s a real ‘heart on your sleeve’ collection and well worth repeated listens.

Album Review: 'Love Ting' by Chris Boddington
Key Quote: "Taking each track on their individual merit, I really rated them all highly".
Love Ting is released on 01-Mar-24 and so it was a pleasure to get early access to this collection of 9 songs...
1. Beyond Stars
What an opener! This track would be worthy of gracing either a Daft Punk or Air album. Chris employs some slick TripHop style production skills underneath the velvet vocals. By the end of the track, the chorus has its hooks into you. Musically and vocally, this one is right up my electronic street!
2. What We Have
Surprisingly, the 2nd song goes in a different direction from the first. I wouldn't describe it as Afrobeats exactly but it's definitely got those vibes on the percussion and vocal delivery - so what's not to like? However, the opening song still has the edge for me.
3. Just Us
The common thread between all the songs so far is the stripped back production skills which really let the vocals breathe. This one has an especially unusual percussion and the song builds throughout before finishing on some simple but effective piano chords. It has a similar overall chill vibe to the 1st track.
4. Turn Around
The lead vocals sit very nicely on top of this string and synth instrumentation. Initially the vocals play centre stage, but gradually, the ever changing instrumentation takes hold and ends up driving the song to the end.
5. Building Me Up
I love the vocal effects on this one over what is a very catchy synth riff. Some creative vocal sampling results in some many layered hooks on this song.
6. We'll Work It Out
We'll Work It Out washes over you like sea breeze on a sunny day. Some sublime guitar licks add to the heavenly bliss. I don't know if this qualifies as an instrumental as there's a choir in the mix, but it's a strong enough song without vocals.
7. The Start Of Tomorrow - The Wedding Of Russ & Sarah (feat. Evie)
A deeply personal stripped back piano-led song with heart-felt lyrics. Magical vocal delivery gives way to some family congratulatory messages which is a nice touch.
8. The Start Of Tomorrow - Honeymoon Edit (feat. Evie)
Loved-up dance version of the previous song with some interesting percussion and (long-awaited) deep bass.
9. Fly High (In Loving Memory Of Rhea)
I've had the pleasure of listening to this song before and I forgot how beautiful it sounds both lyrically and musically. Heart-breakingly personal words over a warm and effective piano and strings accompaniment.
Overall, there are some great songs on this album. Perhaps there are a few too many different vocal styles for it to be fully cohesive as a single body of work. But, in terms of taking each track on their individual merit, I really rated them all highly.

Press Release: New Album 'Liquid' by RubberStamp - Out Now!
Key Quote: "As the title suggests this album moves more into that Chill meets Drum and Bass sound called Liquid".
Album Name: Liquid
Artist: RubberStamp
Genre: Liquid Drum And Bass
General Release Date: 10-May-24
Bandcamp Release Date: 01-Mar-24
Record Label: Jellypop
Spotify: Liquid
RubberStamp Bio: RubberStamp are UK based songwriters, musicians and producers who collaborate with international singers. Primary members are Gary Blake (aka neon radiation), Dave Mcfarlane (aka DrJkl) and Chris Gotch (aka gotchy).
Their first self titled album came out in 2022 and was heavily influenced by the sound of UK Tech House artist ‘CamelPhat’ amongst others. The new ‘Liquid’ album as the title suggests moves more into that Chill meets Drum and Bass sound called Liquid.
The 12 Liquid Album Songs:
1 - Peng Fever (feat. Sheddi Bankz) (Blake/Macfarlane) This started out as an Oriental inspired dance song by DrJkl. But with the addition of lyrics by Neon Radiation and vocals by Nigerian Sheddie Bankz, this song took on a more of a laid-back Afrobeat vibe.
2 - Dizzy Heights (feat. Sheddi Bankz) (Blake) The 2nd single from the album to be released on 15-Dec-23 and 1st in the Blade Runner inspired trio of songs on the album. The bass on this song definitely put it squarely in the Drum and Bass genre and is more uptempo that the previous song.
3 - Secrets And Lies (feat. Manuela Penia) (Blake) Argentinian singer Manuela provides sumptuous vocals over a pure pop track that was inspired by seeing live accordionist Alicia Edelweiss. Lyrically, it explores a relationship that seems initally seems transparent but has a darker side.
4 - Endless Nights (feat. INERT) (Blake) The 1st single from the album to be released on 24-Nov-23 and 2nd in the trio of Blade Runner inspired songs. This time Jamaican singer INERT provides the vocals soaring over a neon lit cityscape.
5 - I Feel Nothing (feat. Manuela Penia & INERT) (Blake) The 3rd single from the album to be released on 05-Jan-24. Stripped back musically to allow the vocals to do the heavy lifting. Although this is a slow starter, it finally reaches top gear in the final chorus.
6 - Robot Revolt (Blake) This track was originally featured on the Neon Radiation album ‘Future TV Themes’ but has been extended and given the Drum and Bass treatment here.
7 - Get Out My Bed (feat. Sheddi Bankz) (Blake/Gotch) Again this song features Sheddi’s vocals and is about how sometimes it’s hard to get someone out of your head (as well as your bed) especially if you’re only half trying. Gotchy provided the beats with additional music and lyrics by Neon Radiation.
8 - Ghosts (feat. INERT) (Blake) INERT returns to sing this song about how relationships from the past that don't always end well can haunt you in the future. A piano and electronica blend provides a cinematic backdrop.
9 - Stuff Of Life (feat. Manuela Penia) (Blake/Gotch) Uplifting song about how everyday things are the essential stuff of life. Manuela returns to sing lyrics by Neon Radiation over a pop track by Gotchy.
10 - Neon Lights (feat. INERT) (Blake) The final track in the Blade Runner trio of songs finds our man searching through city bars for his missing partner. INERT sings over an atmospheric Drum and Bass track.
11 - City Of Lost Souls (feat. Sheddi Bankz) (Blake/Macfarlane) The penultimate track is a softer piano led song and features Sheddie back on vocal duties. Lyrically it’s about how sometimes people’s dreams don’t always work out but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
12 - Parallel Worlds (Blake) Another cinematic track from the ‘Future TV Themes’ album reworked for this ‘Liquid’ Drum and Bass album.

Press Pack - New Single: How Can I Love You?
Full Digital Release: 15-May-2020
Tumblr media
The first release of 2020 from ‘neon radiation’, the London based songwriter and electronic music producer features vocals from Tom Bedlam and electric guitar by Gordon Stockley and is a truly collaborative affair.
The music has morphed into a cross between electronic artist Grimes combined with synth pioneers New Order. Stockley (also a co-writer on this track) lets his guitar rip into the chorus and is a highlight of the song.
Lyrically, it gets very personal with lines like ‘How can I love you? I don’t really like you’ sung by the excellent Tom Bedlam which lends the song a folk rock edge.
This is the first of 3 EPs from ‘neon radiation’ each with 3 other tracks.

Review: Body Moves (Remixes) by Fused
Tumblr media
1. Body Moves - Baseline Mix
A darker take on the original mix starts with a thumping kick drum combined with a industrial atmospheric soundscape. This gives way to a more up tempo mix featuring electric guitar and some bone shaking bass. This is a great ‘alternative single’ mix of Body Moves and solid opener for this 4 track e.p.
2. Body Moves - TikTik Mix
A stripped back version follows which feels a bit subdued compared to the previous track. However, this version really allows the song to ‘breathe’ and the vocals become even more poignant. Some really nice stereo FX and new vocal elements complete the picture and show off the sublime production.
3. Body Moves - Harmonious Mix
This mix has a more dance feel to it and pulls you in from the outset. The vocals sit perfectly over the percussion and burbling bass. This is probably my favourite out of the 3 Body Move Remixes. New vocals hooks are introduced throughout this floor-filler as well as some innovative synth work - superb!
4. Sanctified - Halo Mix
The final track of this e.p. takes a different direction again. The ‘hard to ignore’ original intro intrigues and again the production class shines through here. Some blended backward guitar adds to the atmosphere along with what sounds to be female vocals as well as main male vocals. A worthy closer.
