nct's first full group project: EMPATHY came in early 2018, along with the first full group song: BLACK ON BLACK. featuring comebacks from each subunit as well as full group music show & event appearances, variety show appearances and youtube content, 2018 turned out to be a memorable year for fans of all the subunits.

nct horizon came back with KITSCH for this album.

going into 2018, the girls were undoubtedly still getting hate for being the only five female members

a portion of their fanbase were not nctzens and a portion of nctzens were not horizon fans (i.e. going into 2018 there were quite a few people on both sides that didn’t really consider them nct)

empathy era helped change a lot of opinions though: more horizon fans became nctzens and by the end of the year they were vastly considered nct (finally)

yunmi took part in promotions for boss ; erika and noriko appeared in the music video for yestoday while sora did the same for timeless

kitsch was promoted on music shows for a week prior to empathy’s release

appeared on weekly idol as part of nct 2018, noriko and haechan tied for the random dance

hrzn performed with the full group (and as a unit) at the end of year song festivals and at smtown 2018

with 2018 came the first nct full group project: EMPATHY. each unit featured on a track of the album, one that was promoted as a comeback. 127 took a much softer concept than ever before with “TOUCH”, dream moved from being portrayed as kids to teenagers with “GO” and horizon solidified themself as a girl group to watch with “KITSCH”.

“KITSCH” proved them to be just as unique and innovative as the rest of the nct brand, a topic that had been debated over across the internet concerning their previous two releases. the song and concept allowed nct horizon to differentiate themselves from their peers in the teen crush genre. the essence of being neo is being kitsch, and horizon showed the world that they were not afraid to experiment. the release received 2 music show wins.

auditioned at an sm global audition in sf in 2012, moved to kor & started training in 2013 

has one older sister, sydney, born in 1998 (who now works as a tattoo artist in LA and makes sure to attend every concert erika has in the area) despite the distance she kept in contact and managed to stay close to sydney, even though they drifted apart in between (the 2014-17 period)

her aunt became her local guardian when she moved to seoul, and her family or at least one of her parents would come to visit for a week every month in the early years, until she became an adult + started touring. definitely sees herself as closer to the members than to her immediate family even though she hates admitting it bc she feels guilty.

started out performing in school musicals as a kid and was in local musical productions by middle school. her favourite musicals are anastasia, amelie and les mis. 

got into kpop via her mom, who would get her to listen to artists like shinhwa, h.o.t. and boA. fell in love with the genre and the idea of being an idol/popstar when she saw snsd. auditioned with atlantis princess by boA for vocals and into the new world by snsd for dance.

lived in the hrzn dorms since debut, but if shes ever lost you can find her at chenle’s house playing with daegal while he plays video games with and yaps. she has considered moving out to an apartment but hasn’t done it yet.

she’s called riri/rika by her family and the neos a lot.

picked up a lot of mandarin from being close to the c-line (esp. xiu, chenle, renjun, ningning and yangyang)

✩ THE GROUP

★ ⋮ nct horizon is the fictional all-female subunit of nct. the five member subunit debuted in 2017, and to this day are the only female members of nct. horizons symbolise the unknown, the idea that there is more to our reality than what we know.

★ ⋮ nct horizon is known for their neo take on the teen crush and girl crush sound. they debuted on 14th may 2017 with the single “stereotype” and received their first win with their first comeback “beautiful monster”. 

★ ⋮ all 5 members were publicised as smrookies prior to their debut, with many of them performing with the boys of SR15B at smrookies shows, as pre-show acts at smtown concerts and as cast members of mickey mouse club. erika, noriko and xiu were all cast through global auditions in their respective cities. sora auditioned during sm’s weekly audition and got in on her first try. yunmi was street cast on her way back from school.
