you ever see how people talk about a controversial character and it becomes glaringly obvious that they believe some kids are just born inherently evil

Would AAC/sign language be helpful for a schizophrenic character struggling with the language issues of the disorder?
I have a schizophrenic character who experiences alogia/“poverty of speech”, but I’m not sure if the accommodations mentioned would actually help them. Given that aac and sign language are just other forms of communication they could potentially struggle with.
I only found one reddit post from someone with autism and schizophrenia talking about how it helped them, but I have no clue if this is common or unique to them. There’s a lot of stuff talking about language issues in schizophrenia but very little about how to accommodate it, and I don’t know if that’s because the accommodations don’t exist or just the internet being predictably bad with information on a stigmatized disorder
Hi!!! I have moderate alogia during my psychotic episodes and thought blocking constantly. This question makes me very happy.
So my biggest question is how severe is their alogia, how does it present? Poverty of speech can range from short, clipped sentences to not talking at all except to respond. If they are trying to communicate outside of these moments than perhaps something like AAC may help but to be completely honest a big part of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia is avolition and anhedonia (difficulty with starting and doing tasks as well as a lack of pleasure or energy). They may have difficulty not only with the tasks of speaking more robustly but also with getting the energy to do so. I won't speak for others, but I personally also have pretty severe lack of insight when it comes to my speech. I only know about it because all of my loved ones have assured and let me know multiple times how it presents and affects me. It's the first symptom for others (it's how my family judges whether I am in an episode and need more care) but one I have never completely noticed myself.
For a post about poverty of speech this is very long winded! I would say it depends on how their symptoms present and how much they and their loved ones see the symptoms as something that needs accommodating. Sign language may not be the best because, like you said, it is a language and stored in the brain as a language in the language part of the brain.
Thank you for the great ask!

#[kaz]#okay afaik i have alogia due to autism & not schizophrenia#so im not sure how relevant this is to schizophrenia in particular#but in my experience i cant imagine alt. forms of communication helping much#first of all#a lot of the time‚ i dont realize the person wants more info than im giving#its like. im responding to the question they asked#if they want more info‚ they can ask more questions.#secondly#generally my issue is with /forming/ sentences‚ not /speaking/ them#sign language & aac still require you to formulate a sentence#tho‚ from what ive heard ab aac‚ id imagine itd help more than sign language#since from what ive heard it like. shows you words#rather than you having to think of them fully on your own?#ive never actually used aac tho so that could be wrong#again take all that w/ a grain of salt cuz i have autism not schizophrenia (afaik)#tho i think i am schizospec? ive heard that disorders like szpd count#but. uh. idk#okay thats all

there's this prevailing portrayal of traumatic dissociation and repression as this unconscious reflex survival instinct that distances you from the event and blots out chunks of your memory like an impenetrable censorship bar, but just as often but less frequently acknowledged it's a series of negotiations with yourself made while fully and continuously aware of what is happening to you. indignity after indignity endured so you can make it to the next one survive until the straw that breaks the camel's back forces you to reckon with the entire accumulated weight of that contract/hostage situation with yourself. death by a thousand cuts but you're still alive and bleeding and staring down the pieces of yourself strewn across the floor.

obsessed with the concept of the anti-saint. you will suffer cruelties and humiliations that should be unthinkable and die pointlessly, and if you must be remembered at all, it will only be with revulsion, as if you were a festering scar on reality itself. neither resistance nor submission will redeem you. god will not save you. god has abandoned you. everyone has abandoned you. you are alone in an uncaring universe.

"enthusiastic consent" "dubcon" "noncon" ???con where we're both so neurotic and strange about vulnerability and emotional and physical expression that it'd take a crack team of philosophers to figure out whether anything about what we did together was consensual or even semiotically definable as sex
