I’ve been quite ill, had chronic insomnia, am battling creative block and have been busy attempting my first children’s project, but I’m still here. Trying to catch up and get back into the swing of things.
This one is a bit of a throwback, as it reminds me a lot of my Capitulate series. This is the next colour in my @jamesjeanart inspired paintings - ORANGE. I wanted another crack at illustrating peonies. I forgot how much I like drawing flowers.

I use references when I draw. I wish I was one of those people who can just launch themselves at a page and produce a masterpiece purely from imagination. My brain sees art more like paper-piecing, where I know the ideas I want to use, but have to arrange them until I find out where they should go.
I writing this because I felt like there was a shift up with this one. There’s just something about it - maybe the eyes? I went back and looked at it a lot after it was done. I always say that my favourite piece is the one I’ve just finished, but this one sticks with me. I’m really fond of it.

“My Little Nöni” - Did I design characters just so I can make terrible puns? Yes, yes I did. Am I sorry? Also yes… wait, NO. I’m not. These little baubles are so much fun to do, and I have LOADS of them.

I’ve been away for a week, wandering through Northumberland in the north east of England. It’s steeped in history and culture, and I tried to illustrate various experiences I had while I was there. I came back with a very full sketchbook and lots of ideas.
Before I went, I did a lot of quick, smaller pieces. A lot of which you’ve seen. But I also started some bigger, more complicated digital paintings and each one of them has taken me several weeks to complete.
The first one is called RED - I confess to being very inspired by James Jean for these, so expect some complexity and natural elements as I try to push myself a little, and experiment with my own style.

Another little abstract practise piece, although I’m not so sure about this one. But that’s why we practise!
I haven’t had a lot of free time lately, so these little pieces have started to become quite important to my sanity. I like the textures and the new colour palette. Speaking of which - what’s your favourite colour combo? I have a few interesting ones coming up.

I said I’d got carried away a little with these. They’re fun to draw when I’m short on time. (Although saying that, I somehow found the time to do a bigger piece, that I’ll post soon.) This is Nöni.

Life has been super hectic lately, I’ve barely found time to do anything for myself. Sometimes you have to just hang on to the coat tails and let life drag you along.
I’ve been trying to do bigger pieces, but honestly? I love doing these little abstract squares. They’re just full of colour and light and make me very happy. This one is probably my favourite. It’s called “Flare”.

Here’s the second one of my abstract experiments - channeling my inner Dali a bit for this one. This is “Lighthouse”.
Every time I do one of these, I try something new, and try to push my style a little bit further. And I like each one a little more than the one before.

So in the midst of a really bad bout of insomnia, I decided to make some user pictures. “Let’s try just doing something simple for once!” - HAHAHA, I can never do simple. It took me forever. And I got carried away and did a bunch of them, because OF COURSE I DID.

So during a period of art block and insomnia, I started to experiment. I began doing these little abstract squares, then ask people what they could see in them. Then tried to weave those ideas into the square, while still allowing the textures to come through. (Kids are brilliant for this.) I ended up doing a wee series.
Abstract art is one of those things I love but I think it takes a lot of courage to actually do and put out there. But it’s tremendously therapeutic to actually do.
This is called “Boat”.

This is dedicated to anyone who has their birthday in the holiday season. I spent my birthday this year with flu, so ended up drawing this as a tiny protest to the universe. 2025 isn’t going to defeat us, oh no.

So… Happy New Year? Apologies for my absence, my winter has mainly consisted of flu and fatigue, and I just haven’t had the motivation or inspiration to do much. But I did want to share this - a sticker/seamless patterns based on my own pet puddle, Enzo. It’s called “Cats Are Liquid” and you can now buy it from my store. (Link in bio!)

I haven’t disappeared! But November is a super busy time for me and I haven’t had much time to pick up a pencil. But I decided I’d try to experiment with using more abstract shapes in my character designs, and came up with this.
I spent a lot of time working on it in a local cafe while dealing with real life stuff, and I had a lot of lovely people come up to talk to me about my art while I was there. Hi to all of you! I appreciate it so much. I’ll happily talk art with anyone, it makes me so happy.
