As a college kid in southeast Wisconsin that can't drive, rarely do I get out. It certainly doesn't help that, being in Kenosha, a lot of the events I do want to go to are in Chicago. For me, going to Chicago is something I will not do unless it's something very important (which is to say I only ever did it once to get on an Amtrak).

My birthday, which lands on the 14th of April, is on a Monday this year. Oh joy. But oh boy, will that week be worth it. The Wednesday of that week just so happens to be the day when Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live comes to Milwaukee.

I repeat, Milwaukee!

It's in a place I can easily get to by public transit!... Not that I will, because my mom plans on coming up to Kenosha and staying for a couple days or so.

Also, I saw the Minecraft movie with my dad. And I enjoyed it.

Depeche Mode's drummer...

And no, I'm not talking about Christian Eigner.

So, a little context first?

This is something I imagine will only make sense to a very small amount of people in a very specific niche genre. So, you know Depeche Mode, right? Yeah? Gigantic new wave superstars who basically rule the entirety of @synthpop-confessions? Still popular all these years later?

Well, a long time ago, I was introduced through Facebook a clip called simply "Depeche Mode without music" and it intrigued me, and not for the reasons the video creator probably wanted. It intrigued me because the original clip it was edited from featured... this.

Yes, that is in fact a toy bunny. One of those battery-operated toy bunnies that you used to see in toy shops anywhere, and nowadays perhaps best known as the main progenitor of the Energizer bunny. But this one was a rare model, at far as I was concerned, as I haven't really seen many of these that were actually sitting down and playing a full drum kit. Plenty of them standing up and playing the snare, but none with a full kit.

Also, I just found it hilarious that Depeche Mode of all bands would utilize a battery-operated toy drumming bunny in place of a real drummer during live performances on television; specifically French television performances, if the information I've gathered has led me to believe.

And you bet your bottom dollar it woke up the furry part of me.

This isn't even the first furrified (is that a word?) drawing I've done of this obscure part of synth-pop history, but it is certainly better than the last one I did.

Also, don't credit me for the logo on her tank. That was originally created by user adamforeman on fanart.tv, which I consider an excellent resource for high-quality band artwork.

Important update time!: My dearest apologies for not being active as of late. I'm still getting used to adding alt text and image descriptions to my images from here on out, as well as retroactively. I also have a decently-sized slush pile of posts, which mostly amount to visual-oriented content that I have to create image descriptions for. Stay tuned for more!

From Gaza to Ireland: Out of the Fire of War to the Fire of Soul-Crushing Survival Guilt and Fear for my Family

At times of peace, having to be away from your family for months and years is a high price you pay for obtaining an academic degree or securing a better job. Imagine while you are away, they were trapped in a besieged strip of land and thousands of missiles rained down on that besieged area of 360 km² around the clock for almost 11 months. That would crush every cell of your mind and drive you crazy, wouldn't it?!

Imagine suddenly getting addicted to watching the news and the gory videos and pictures all the freaking time. You follow relevant social media pages that only show images, videos, and stories of entire families that were wiped out in an instant in an airstrike and deemed as collateral insignificant damage. While plunging deeper and deeper into an unprecedented state of acute depression, I wondered: how come all my suffering from displacement, fear, and hunger in Gaza for 5 months during the war before being evacuated to Ireland is nothing but a drop compared to my ocean of suffering now?

The constant thinking of my family in Gaza during the genocide and all the potential scenarios is consuming my sanity and mental health at a time in my life and a place where I am required to be 199% focused and productive. To give you a glimpse of my horrible psychological suffering these days: I fear going to sleep because I know horrible horrible nightmares are waiting for me on the other side. Some have to do with the horrors of wars I witnessed in Gaza myself and others relate to the horrible potential scenarios I keep thinking about.

Seeing the images and pictures of Gaza makes you think a thousand earthquakes hit every neighborhood of the Gaza Strip! Nothing and no one has been spared. The horrific war has turned the place into a hell on earth, unfortunately. How can young people have any hope for a better future seeing the mass destruction and the relentless Israeli efforts to stifle Gaza and squeeze hope out of its people as a form of collective punishment. How monstrous and heartless!!!

Amid all this chaos and madness, my number one priority and focus is evacuating my family to Egypt as a first step and hopefully reuniting with them in Ireland at a later stage.
