Something I forget to appreciate about Everything Everywhere All At Once is how regardless of the other alternate lives and selves there are, the movie shows that there will always be conflict, there will always be chaos— and that’s okay.

No matter where your life goes, there will be a challenge, a point of conflict. That sounds so scary. But when I think of my alternate selves and how they all have their own struggles to face. I strangely feel less alone. They may be a fashion designer or a singer or they might just be some silly obscure character in a webcomic. Regardless, obstacles will be in the way.

You may not be where you would have wanted to be and things feel as if they’re getting worse, but you’re not alone. You’re not the only one looking for a better day or reaching for something. Anything to keep going. Countless other versions of you are doing the same. And the best thing to do is to keep going. To persist and believe something can change whether by chance or by your own hand.

Classical Conditioning

When Maya began asking for her physical touch needs to be met, Carina's heart melted. 

She always saw the way Maya lit up when she played with her hair or traced mindless patterns across her skin, but hearing Maya vocalize that she loved all their little touches and needed them to feel secure in their relationship brought her a joy she couldn't describe.

Carina began making a conscious effort to give Maya all the affection she needed.

A touch on Maya's lower back as they worked around each other in their small kitchen. Rubbing their noses together in intimate moments. Stroking Maya's jaw as they kissed.

It became second nature, kisses accompanied by soft touches. Carina noticed it didn't matter which happened first, but one would always follow after the other.

She wondered if it was intentional or if Maya associated little touches with kisses. Carina thought about asking, but she didn't want to ruin what little magic she had for herself.

Instead, she smiled as she watched her wife melt into her hands and pepper her with kisses, glowing in her secret shared with Maya's subconscious.

Even though Carina was convinced Maya was unaware of the pattern, she needed to test it out.

She waited for Maya to fall asleep, curled into Carina's neck. Her fingers delicately traced Maya's jaw, and just as she predicted, Maya pressed a few kisses into her neck.

Carina tried it a few more times, and each touch was followed by a kiss. She smiled to herself wickedly. She had successfully classical conditioned her wife.

Have created a new novel-writing approach for myself that I am calling Very Gentle Writing. Very Gentle Writing is an approach for people who live nearly every waking second in self-castigation and actually need peaceful slowness to unleash their creativity. 

Very Gentle Writing does not set staggering word count goals and then feel bad about it. No! Very Gentle Writing for me sets an extremely low word count and then feels magnificently productive when the low bar is exceeded (which is easy…it’s a low bar, I mean really low). 

Very Gentle Writing is about saying hey yo maybe I just want to listen to a chill playlist for a while and feel one sentence spill out. Go me! 

Very Gentle Writing is kind of about realizing I have a really limited amount of time to write in between work, and adulting, and taking care of a thousand life responsibilities, and trying to heal&deal from trauma in 2020. So I want that writing time to be….just…..nice. 

Very Gentle Writing means I have a goal of enjoying every single time I sit down to write. Really. I use all the fun words first. 

Very Gentle Writing came to me as an idea when I started to think about how as someone actively trying to recover from a lot of lifelong trauma, the usual word harder!! Work harder!! mantras in the world of “people doing hard things” didn’t motivate me at all, they only hurt me. I truly need a voice saying work less hard, personally.

I think authors underestimate how many people reread their works/chapters.

That’s why, when I’m rereading WIPs or old works, I always leave a comment. Just a little hey, I’m rereading this and it is still great goes so far, actually

fanfic really is. like. it really is about the community. it's about the comments. it's about the story you rip directly for your heart and bleed out on your keyboard. it's about the i loved it when you... and the i screamed when you wrote... and the keyboard smashes and the i can't believe you did that!!!! and the i'm suing you for damages like it. this is community. fanfic is literally. an act of community. the greatest act of community in fandom because it comes with such raw, overwhelming vulnerability. whether you're writing kink fic or 100k words of trauma exploration, you're just like. hi hello this is my soul please embrace it and people do. oh my gosh
