Cloud often thought the people of the slums should just get up and move. He'd expressed that to Barret once who told him it wouldn't be that easy. Cloud's sure Barret's right to a degree. However, it's what Cloud's always done. It's why he left Nibelheim to become a soldier after all.

❝ Y'know, when we defeat Shinra, you could fill the entirety of Gaia with flowers. ❞

"I'm living with my mom, remember ? We love our garden, I love my church... Beside, I want to help people in the slums!" she explains, keeping a bright smile to her lips. She doesn't know how her life could be outside of the slums, but she knows she would miss it somehow. Even if it might sound silly. She has founded some kind of comfort in the slums against all odds. This is where her life truly started, after she escaped from Hojo's lab.

She frowns. "People don't have much money in the slums... I don't want them to ruin themselves!" she exclaims, putting her hands to her hips. She then sighs, letting a soft smile cross her lips. "I want Midgar to be full of flowers. It has been my goal for a while now. I don't care about money. I just want these flowers everywhere. They make people smile."

❝ We're trying to help it but unfortunately, Shinra's got a vice grip on everything. They control it all. They're even our central government essentially. ❞ Which was really shitty, but there wasn't much they can do. Shinra had a way of inciting the people in order to manufacture a war to fund their depraved experiments. It was frustrating. Cloud wanted to end them and get revenge for everything they did.

Cloud shrugged. ❝ Well, I'll take anything I can get. Like I said, our band is growing and we've got a vague idea of how we might be able to stop Shinra and Sephiroth from what they're doing. We just need to figure out the details. ❞

❝ Maybe you can grant a miracle so we can find this materia we need and can prompt the planet to heal itself. ❞

❝  I  though  it  would  have  improved  while  I  was  gone  ...  ❞  Immediate  reply  expressing  an  hint  of  sadness  passed  though  his  lips.  Thing  was,  he  didn't  know  how  many  time  had  passed  since  last  time  he  had  been  here,  when  he  had  partially  discovered  that  universe  but  didn't  managed  to  influence  it  inside  his  usual  manners.  ❝  Oh.  ❞  He  allowed  himself  to  register  that  information.  ❝  I'm  glad  you've  had  more  allies  though  will  be  time  for  me  to  do  something  concerning  your  universe  ---  ❞  He  expressed  casually  in  which  playful  features  exposed  themselves  for  a  moment.  There  was  an  amusing  laugh.  ❝  I'm  glad  to  be  considered  as  an  witch  but  I'm  an  simple  warlock  able  to  create  miracles  once  in  a  while  when  it  needed.  Of  course  I  want  to  be  helpful.  Doesn't  this  universe  praying  for  hope  ?  ❞  Considering  he  only  exchanged  one  gaze  with  an  man  promising  miracles  in  which  in  middle  of  an  island  inside  another  of  life  created  one  in  front  of  the  Witch  of  Miracles  herself  eventually  facing  another  man  able  to  create  miracles  from  emptiness,  he  could  play  with  that  degree  of  reflection.  Time  also  passed,  accoustumed  to  deal  with  the  Witch  of  Illusions  when  there  was  no  more  mental  barrier  concerning  what  he  desired.  It  was  part  of  his  redemption,  of  the  immortal  he  wanted  to  be  :  bring  happiness.

Selling flowers was probably not a sure fire way to get that to happen, but Cloud's looking at it like a business. He is a merc after all.

❝ It's your business though. I can't make you change how you run it. All I can do is say that you should charge more. If it were me, I would. ❞

Aerith raises a playful eyebrow, letting a chuckle escape her mouth. "Oh, really ? Be careful when you say that. Who knows where I might bring you!" She's teasing him, of course. It's not like she would make him risk his life on purpose. She lost too many people already, and she's trying to not make it happen again.

She's smiling happily as she walks, but she suddenly turns back to face Cloud. "Cloud, people don't have much money in the slums. I just want this place to be full of flowers. I want people to be happy. I don't have to be rich, anyway." If all of Midgar could be full of flowers like Zack and her used to want, she'd be glad, though.

❝ Maybe . . . ❞ Though he still would rather fight monsters than look for lost cats. Rain has a point though and it's something Cloud shouldn't dismiss. ❝ I can't help but feel like it's a waste of time. I'm an ex-soldier. I have a very niche skill set that's more suited to combat than finding and befriending stray cats or picking flowers. ❞

A sigh slips past his lips. ❝ Can't complain though. It pays the bills. ❞

"Nothing wrong with starting off small. I started off with my whittling before I did full carpentry jobs." Rain says, he won't get into the full details of how that came to be as he wasn't sure how Cloud would react.

"Plus knowing that you find lost cats might make you less scary to Marlene."

❝ Stop offering your services for free. You need to stand up for yourself and demand better. The more you work for free, the more they'll take advantage of you. You're worth more. Don't give them free shit. ❞

"You guys actually get paid for your work huh? I'm out here running myself ragged for practically free. but I guess that's cause I'm not--well, a full fledged shinigami technically." He was a substitute in title and status only. He wasn't a soul, he was human. Something he often himself forgot with how reckless he could be. "I'm fine with whatever you can spare though. Might even end up getting me something nice to eat tonight with the money."

❝ What happened to that lesson about taking it easy and resting from Marle? ❞ He definitely remembered Tifa lecturing him about it when he first got here. ❝ Pretty sure that was an important lesson for life on the ground floor. ❞

But Cloud follows her anyway. He'd go wherever he was needed to help her out.

"You should know I never allow anyone to just take it easy." She giggled again. "No sadly we've got a busy day ahead of us as per usual. I just wanted to have a little fun with you is all before we got too busy." Her palms clasp at her front. "Come on then, follow me, won't you?"

ff7 rebirth dropped but I’m finishing up my replay of remake before I dive in bc why not? I’ll be around a little tomorrow and probably during the weekend in between work school and gaming.

"It's a fun game, Cloud. I'm just trying to tease you." She giggled despite the grumpy response. Dropping her palms and resting them at her hips. "The least you could do is indulge me sometimes you know?"

Cloud's hand drops from their sword. Eyes flit to the table where Sephiroth threw the money down.

❝ If I wanted to fight myself I'd go find some shinra tech and activate it. ❞ Gaze flits across the room. ❝ I don't get you. You don't want to talk but you don't want to fight either. I offer my friendship and you storm off after saying you won't leave. You know what? ❞ Cloud scribbles their number on a nearby piece of paper and slides it forward. ❝ Keep it or throw it away ----- up to you. ❞

Cloud's turning to walk towards the door at this point.

"No."

And he hadn't even been able to enjoy his drink. With a sigh, Sephiroth reels in his anger and stands, leaving money for both of their drinks and a little extra for their trouble, then turns to leave.

"Fight your shadow. I'm leaving."

Cloud shrugged. ❝ It's going. All of the work's small stuff like finding lost cats . . . ❞ He's hoping he can get better work soon but he's gotta start somewhere, right?

"If I saw you smiling from ear to ear, I'd probably run." Rain jokes, blowing away excess dust to get a better look at his model. The block is starting to look somewhat moogle shaped. He's been sat on the porch of Seventh Heaven for a few hours just whittling away.

"How's the merc work going? Heard you've been the talk of the slums."
