a rant
my incompatibility with this season is a purely ethical one. the second the fans connected the dots of maya having a tako-tsubo crisis (sooner than writers expected, bc they think they are geniuses) i knew we were gonna get fucked.
i truly do not believe in assigning meaning to suffering, pain is a part of life and we all have to learn how to cope with that to different degrees obv, but that's it. there are no lessons to suffering, people do not come out better bc they have suffered.
so from the moment you decide to write a story of a character suffering and in pain, be it physical or emotional, just so they can learn a lesson or grow...i just know it's gonna be bullshit.
it takes very little to break a person be it a real one or a fictional character. but it takes a village (people need people) and a lifetime (and sometimes it's not even enough) for a person to get back on their own feet.
choosing your only lesbian character for this storyline given the historical record that lesbians have on tv and cinema (and literature) shows so little care that it is beyond me how much of their heads they have to have had up their asses to expect a good reaction from their audience
i believe we are past the point of asking our stories to be equal to those of heterosexual couples in terms of content and form. i dont want to be as miserable as them.
i wish maya had learned whatever the writers think she has learned trough joy and surrounded by love. i wish maya and lola had broken up out of their love being bigger than their relationship and not because lola was out of love for maya
the way forward is to put out stories that prove that our ways of being in the world, our ethics, are beyond the possibilities of the narrow ways of the heterosexual world.

Still searching for the normal people influence on the season
things normal people (tv show, not the book) is:
- a piece about two characters (not suitable for the skam pov format)
- a story that takes place over a few years (again, not suitable for the skam format)
- a love story, not a break up one and not a heartbreak one (the alleged theme of this season)
- a story about marianne and connell coming together and bettering each other to the point that the separation (in the LAST SCENE, because it's the conclusion not the starting point of the story) is not a sad one it's a happy one, it's bittersweet, sure, but they make the choice together, for the first time they are on the same page and their talk about it is an open-hearted one (there's no falling out love because i am better now, they are better BECAUSE they love each other)
- marianne and connell share a special connection (lola and maya do not, because that's what the paralells with june mean as written in this season)
- marianne and connell learn to talk to each other, their failings in their relationship and communication are acknowledged, discussed and forgiven in actual scenes with dialogue (no music videos, or bullshit like "you hurt me", "i know")
and much more (without taking into account the class and gender differences inherent to marianne and connell as characters, which lola and maya do not have )

waiting for this hell season to end
so that i can form coherent thoughts with all the cards on the table but i still don't understand how they give you the prompt of "heartbreak" and this is what you come up with for the most beloved couple of your tv show
i'm not even mad they chose maya and lola to break up, they are the only ones who could've actually pull it off because people care about them but i still find the way they went about this so twisted from a writing pov (maybe i'll get into this in another post if i want to procrastinate some more)
how can you have ayumi and flavie at the top of their acting game with a fandom still engaged in their portrayals of maya and lola after two years and decide to keep them apart on screen for most of your season. they went as far as to "create" a new "love" interest which not only is underwritten but you just use them to parallel the few scenes mayla have. did they really think people would get into maya and june just because they are two lesbians with the same scenes as mayla? if anything they just proved that what ayumi and flavie made in season 6 was truly special
imagine a season of maya and lola trying to make their relationship work but not being able to because they have changed, their circumstances have changed BUT they still love each other and they just CAN'T make it work right now. THAT IS HEARTBREAKING. that is the normal people they claim was inspiration for the season (also normal people is full of dialogue which skamfr seems to be allergic to, the characters just monologue in the scenes or are mute to make their little videoclips)
but then again i should not take seriously any writer that talks about characters as entities with their own will and agency and that's exactly how deborah wrote the insta post about lola's pov so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

skam france s9 last scene leak
lola: la lune est magnifique ce soir
maya: carrément also i never thanked you for breaking up with me for the third time in less than two years. i see now that i nedeed to develop a heart condition to understand that the trauma of my parents dying in a tragic accident because of my father's alcoholism when i was eleven and the abused i suffered in the foster system made it hard for me to open up to people
lola: bah, c'est rien. we had a good run en vrai. you fell in love with me at my darkest and helped me to create a support system that made me grow in such a healthy way that i fell out of love with you
maya: oh là là but here come tiff and max. arent they the most REALISTIC of couples?
lola: bien sûr que si. my ex-bully and unexpected teen mom and your insecure ex, they are in it for the long run even if they have nothing in common
maya: but no more than jo and bilal, the womanizer that's never commited to a relationship and is barely above the line of poverty and the never-has-had-a-boyfriend and just got diagnosed with VIH jester. they are the REALEST deal
*dancing to electronic music*
cut to SUZANNE ÉTTIENE the main for SKAM FRANCE SEASON 10
which is the same clip everyday because of alzheimer's disease
#skam france#mayla#its such a stupid show#they thought a wig was a genius metaphor#you don't own the creators anything#you can be mad

it's just skam fr usual bad writing
they wrote the season backwards and thought they could actually pull it off
the flashbacks were the actual scenes that were working because they moved the story forwards (which is ironic)
if they decided that maya s9 was not at all about maya but about her failing relationship with lola why not just write that in present time?
like write an episode of maya gone for five days and show why she dedicates her time to the aso
then put the scene of the teaser
and after a few weeks of trying to save the relationship break them up
and if you want it to be fair to both characters make it a mutual decision, show maya growing apart from lola (wtf has maya in common with anyone from lamif really? she's not in school, is involved in the world outside of her own ass, needs to make ends meet)
if they used normal people as an influence they didn't watch the same show that i did
#skam france#mayla#i know they are gonna use her grandma dying to make a reunion#watch lamif be like we ARE your family or some bullshit

maybe it's still early in the season for a rant but...the potential mess they got into trying to be realistic (in skam lol) about couples breaking up when mayla is by far the only couple of the new gen that could realistically come out stronger after solving their issues…like it was established in S6 that maya was someone who decided life was worth living/fighting for(her activism, which they are misrepresenting/misinterpreting imo) after everything she was put through at such a young age and that’s what made lola see the light/ fall in love (the whole point of the two clips about their respective scars) which could have lead to a S9 in which lola could have helped maya realise that she could be mad at the world/ feel the “ugly emotions” and get past her emotional block(which is how the new team interpreted maya's boundaries and need for time in S6 i guess). The whole appeal of maya and lola is their ying/yang dynamic, they are the only new gen couple with a “dynamic” for that matter
#skam france#mayla#i know talking about realism in a tv show it's stupid but thats what they are apparently going for so i'm alowed to have thoughts#i know ayumi and flavie elevated the little material they were given#but maya and lola are actually written as a couple#no need for a break up to talk about nuances in a relationship
