"Remote Spiral List". Video color, without sound, 26"41'. 2019. Video developed for the group exhibition “Kleine Reparaturen” (Sofia Durrieu, Ramiro Oller, Nicolás Sarmiento at Kaskadenkondensator, Basel, Suiza. 10—25/8/2019). In this video, on ceiling’s photos from the two rooms of the exhibition space, a list of spaces, situations, shops, buildings, services, objects and promotions that are supposed to be, a certain number of meters away (heading left or right), from the exhibition space, is displayed. This list is situated following the patterns presented by the architecture of the ceiling, placing each item on the list according to the architectural rhythm that is made up with the objects, electrical paraphernalia or marks from the past. The text has two translations and two compositions, which are ordered as follows: first composition with first translation of the text, first composition with second translation of the text, second composition with first translation of the text, second composition with second translation of the text. The video begins with a pause that composes the set of pauses that divide the different segments of compositions and translations that order the video, previously mentioned. These pauses are six and they represent the number of photos that was used for editing the video. The colors work as a kind of curtain indicating the space where the text is later appearing. The colors are based on the objects that are situated inside the show and those that can be seen through the apertures in the room. In the middle of the video there are two pauses , one after the other immediately, indicating the change of composition of the text in respect to the ceiling, which takes more presence over the rhythm of reading. The transitions between the segments that form the text, allow to visualize details of the ceiling and how the text is structured.
The origin of the video arises from the material characteristics of the ceilings, especially certain marks that can be visualized as if they were made by tennis balls thrown repeatedly leaving ovoid cream marks (the ceiling has a layer of earth that makes other marks visible made by other people that were in the space in the past, like hands, fingers, etc.), and also this was conjugated with a serie of notes made in a research related to online job searches, seminars, social interactions, stereotypes, services and absurd economic activities.
The languages used are Spanish, English, Portuguese, German, Italian, French. These last three correspond to the main languages spoken in Switzerland, and the first three, are the ones where I can move more fluently. In the use of this segment of languages, and in the translation, combination and superimposition of meanings, there is a search to find new possibilities of reading, between different degrees of spatial and temporal proximity, fictions and humors of the daily life in Basel and surroundings.
