Design Challenge: Create a Logo
After attempting to summarize my life story to Kat, I really identified with the values she described for me. She said I was really good at self reflection, a good work life balance is important to me, I am ambitious, and I know what I like (one of which is MiDE).
My logo displays that I like to go out with friends, go to shows, travel, read, and try new restaurants. I have learned so much inside and outside of the classroom in my life that I know whatever job I end up in has to allow me to continue learning outside of the workplace, too!

After reviewing my results from this exercise from the beginning of the semester, I noted that Embracing Ambiguity and Iterative were two areas I planned to focus on. I improved in both areas, with Embracing Ambiguity to be the area I noted that I improved the most on. Out of all the advice I listed for future students, I think the most important piece is not to stress! The first LEGO project I found to be the most stressful. However, after that project you learn to go with the flow and not to stress about a final idea too early on.
I believe that after this course I am less single minded. Creating multiple concepts sheets allowed me to accomplish this goal as I worked with my teammates to combine ideas and explore multiple options.
In the future, I hope I can continue to improve my prototyping skills. I still feel stressed having an “unfinished” prototype made out of cardboard instead of the real material.

Checking Back In With Our Interviewees
I just wanted to document that after checking back in with our interviewees, we had them all take our final survey. This way, their voices will be heard as well as other random participants.

My Concept Sheet
I interviewed some people to see what they thought of the idea and I received only positive feedback! I am looking forward to see what Catherine and Christine came up with after Thanksgiving Break! I imagine our final presentation would include a compilation of all our ideas, since our final idea is a movement rather than a product.

Ideation Session
After deciding on a team name of #NoFilter, we were ready for our Ideation Session.
We asked our users to show us pictures/videos that they wanted to post, but decided not to. Kat’s picture was a solo shot, Tara’s was a picture edited with the Huji app, and Lexi didn’t want to annoy people with pictures of her dog. When we asked these users “What would motivate you to post these pictures?”, we received these responses...
1. If there were no likes and no comments
2. If we have the ability to set the photo to private, so it is still on your feed but only you can see it.
3. Guarantee that you would receive a certain amount of likes
4. Forced to post the picture right when you take it to avoid overthinking the post.
The other users favored all the other motivations that were not their own. Now that Instagram just got rid of likes on their app, we will have to get a little more creative!

Design Challenge #2 11/20
Problem: Create paper only packaging for a six ping-pong ball pack that hangs and displays.
Solution: All of my ideas tried to represent ping pong balls in another form to peak consumer interest. My final product, which I hope to get a photo of after break, included the six pong balls in paper only packaging designed to look like an egg carton. The packaging used less than one piece of paper. I chose this design approach because after looking at “56 Of The Best Packaging Designs Ever” online, I noticed that most of the products got chosen because they were designed to look like something else. Examples I found were: teabags designed to look like goldfish in the hot water, Cupcakes packaged in a paper box designed to be an oven, and Toilet Paper packaged as fruits.

How Might We...
After each group member created two How Might We Statements, we decided we could either focus our final idea on reducing female Generation Zers’ anxiety and self consciousness when posting or focus on how to better connect people online. We chose our first How Might We because we believe that it would have the biggest impact and be the most interesting to devise a solution for.
Our Final How Might We:  “HMW reduce the anxiety that female generation Zers feel when they upload a post?”

Warm Up 11/18 Findings
After drawing what is needed to accomplish our project successfully, I found that what we would is “a psychological understanding of motives and behaviors”. I think this proves that our project tries to answer a very complicated question that could impact millions.

Design Challenge #1
I worked with Catherine on the first design challenge to attract customers to candy aisles. We worked with Reese’s after Professor Collin told us this was the most popular candy for this age group of 18-25. After researching into Reese’s and finding that their slogan is “Not Sorry”, we decided to incorporate the humor of events that typically go wrong during the holidays. Our aisle uses a light-hearted approach to connect to the stressful time of year. Then we decided to allow customers to personalize their own message to increase demand.

Secondary Research
Dan Crane’s Wall Street Journal Article emphasizes how people are starting to feel the pressure to capture every single moment. Phones have distracted us from enjoying the natural setting around us. Dan Crane discusses from his personal vacation experience that “It wasn’t enough for [vacationers] to simply snap a photo and have a swim: The entire experience had to be stored in HD and uploaded so that ‘likes’ could be tallied”. The focus on likes and interaction causes people to post statuses and pictures that do not represent their true lifestyle.
Also, through my research it was emphasized that physical space is no longer necessary in order to form a connection with someone. The impacts of social media are correlated to increase the average amount of acquaintances each individual has. However, the average number of our strong relationships has decreased. Through our project, it would be interesting if we focused on using social media to create stronger relationships instead of weaker ones.
My research noted the increase of users creating fake profiles. This is due to a sense of insecurity from influencers, and reality show stars cause a person to develop a false persona. This is done either through the use of Facetune or using pictures that are not ones own.

Update Video from 11/15:
We have identified our target user as female Generation Zers. We chose this age group because we interviewed females from the ages of 16-22. After analyzing the interview findings, we drew similar conclusions from all interviewees. Generation Zers grew up with technology and are heavily affected by what influencers post. We want to see if we can change the way they post.

Findings from Interview
I interviewed a 21-year old, female, Senior Bucknell Student. I chose this student because I know she never posts on her social media accounts, however she was also in charge of the recruitment process for her sorority. Having this position means advertising your sorority on social media, which is not her favorite activity. She also tells me often how she often gets distracted doing homework by Instagram. The most interesting answer she provided during the interview was....
“I really wish I could erase it all but then I feel like I would miss out on something. I wouldn’t be able to see how other people are doing. I wouldn’t be current on their lives if I were to erase it. But I feel like erasing social media would calm me done and redirect my focus. I look at social media when I’m bored because it’s so easily accessible. If I weren’t looking at something, I would be looking at something more substantial, like the news. I would be learning Spanish.”
At the beginning of this project, I pictured us creating the plan for a movement that would occur on campus by representatives. I still see this happening, however I realize now that it’s a bigger topic than just beauty standards. Instagram is a distraction for students and working individuals. I think it will be interesting to see how we can solve this problem with our project.
