there will be a LOOTTT under the cut....so for everyones sake, here is this small doodle of them:D feel free to scroll past if you dont wanna read my rambling

i think that alonzo is a very heavy sleeper, and munkustrap is NOT. i feel like alonzo would toss and turn and snore real loud, and munkustrap is just curled into a ball snoozing quietly... when he wakes up, which is earlier than it should be, the only thing keeping him from getting up is alonzos dead weight. alonzo would totally sleep for 12 hours at a time, and munk would only get a solid 6 lolll ((it was also SUCH a learning curve for him to tune out alonzos snoring))

alonzo, whos usually always showing off or restraining his emotions to seem Cool, really allows himself to let all of that go with munk! he is very comfortable putting his bravado away for a time. he knows that munk doesnt see him as someone who needs protection, which makes him feel more sincerely confident:) one of alonzos words is "uncertain" so i play into that a loott for them

meanwhile, munkustrap feels very protected with lonz...i wouldnt say he sees him just as a shoulder to lean on, but where alonzo was a street cat who Knows His Stuff, munk kind of lets the reigns go. he does NOT usually like being taken care of by any means but he is comfortable letting alonzo do so! he still struggles to communicate his needs though, i think. the only reason alonzo can usually tell is just because being near eachother is second nature

though i think when they met, alonzo disliked munkustrap just as much as he disliked every other stranger cat he met on the streets. he could tolerate him being around, but he didnt really have friends so he was under the assumption that munk would tire of alonzos one word responses eventually, and leave. also, alonzo was and still is very much the "i dont need help" type lol

meanwhile munkustrap was absolutely ecstatic to find another cat his age that he didnt already know!! he reeeaally wanted to get to know alonzo, and maybe show him the junkyard one day for fun. sooo imagine munks suprise when alonzo shows up to the junkyard one day after a bad run in with macavity

he offers alonzo his own sort of guest den, but is even MORE shocked when alonzo asks to stay with him in his den.!!!!

long story short....they were roommates....unfortunately nothing happened for a very long time because alonzo didnt think munk liked him like that, and vise versa. it happened veeerry slowly, with more touchiness and words of affection...i think they had a "what are we" phase

uuuhhh heres a thing. first 2 panels are earlier in the timeline if it wasnt obvious by munks collarlessness !!! also gus. hiii gus

Favorite non-replica prop

oh lord. trapped again by my ignorance of the weirder non-replica additions.

WAIT i know! in counterpoint to liking the googly bug eye masks so much, i absolutely loved the Pollicle masks from Fulton Cats! i loved that this production took the spirit of the (well-deservedly gone) Growltiger number as the show's Big Costume Extravaganza and reimagined the Pekes and Pollicles play as a lush Shakespearean interlude from Gus's past. i will probably end up talking more about the other costumes here later, but maybe my favorite bits of that whole number were the fox-like Pollicle half-masks. a neat callback to the look of the Siamese masks from older versions of the show, very sleek and distinctive. it was a total departure from the trash dogs of the typical number, which made sense, since this production didn't really lean into the use of trash and flotsam, as of course it wasn't set in a junkyard. i really loved them, and of course there are NO pictures online that i can find. if anybody got any snaps of these at any point, i would love to see them.<3

Jellicle Favorites Day 8 (I've accepted that my schedule for this will be a little wonky) - Favorite Replica Prop

Does it count if it never made it to opening night? I love that Andrew Lloyd Webber says that originally during the Jellicle Ball, cats were going to wear these elaborate costumes that they had made out of trash they found in the dump. I wish we had gotten to see them. I wonder if any designs survived. I am so curious about what each character would choose to decorate themselves.

Jellicle Favorites - Day 7: Favorite 80s/90s Production

I was going to go with the 1998 movie again, but I thought "eh I already put that as my favorite replica production, I'll pick something else!"

So, I decided to go with the 1993 UK Tour! This is one of the productions that really solidified the makeup and costuming for subsequent productions everywhere. Not to mention the pictures are gorgeous.

I wasn't alive to see it, but I bet it was magical...

Silly headcanons for these two below the cut :)

cettie and plato are the ones who organise and choreograph the cats for tuggers number (they take this job very seriously) however a lot of the time it’s a lot of guess work and improvisation due to Tuggers nature~~~

etcetera was the first (and only) cat who Plato told about his crush on Victoria, Cettie was very excited and helped hype him up to dance with Vicky at the ball <3 (I think cettie would be a very enthusiastic wingman)

I really like the idea that when etcetera gets older she’s really tall, this tiny ball of energy grows up to be a REALLY TALL tower of energy

when etcetera’s a kitten (and short) she climbs on top of Plato to get a better view (OF TUGGER) in crowds

Jellicle Favorites - Days 4-8 Rapidfire Round!

Day 4 (Favorite Non-Rep Female Character) - Grizabella from Tecklenberg, as depicted by Maya Hakvoort

Love the costume, love the acting, love the voice, Griz you will always be famous! Special mention to Anna Carina Buchegger (who was also this productions Teazer), who played Baby Griz for Act I Memory which like I said ruined my life in the best way possible god i just wish they all didnt just straight up look at her when she started singing memory reprise

Day 5 (Favorite Replica Male Character) - Mr Mistoffelees from Madrid 2003, as depicted by Victor Ullate Roche

Unique pick, I know, but with a character thats so varied in how hes depicted youre kind off bound to grow fond of this guy in some variety. I personally like my mistos more mature and put together like Mr Roche here, though Timothy Scotts lanky, slightly offputting creature is also a real treat.

Day 6 (Favorite Non-Rep Male Character) - Gatto Rock Tugger from Il Sistina 2022, as depicted by Giorgo Adamo

Tbh he's only here because I wanted a break from Tecklenberg but i do genuinely love it when hes depicted as a genuine and emotionally secure fella whos also annoying as fuck sometimes, and Fabulous. He should always be Fabulous. Anyways shout out to Tecklenstrap hes a cutie and should get therapy.

Day 7 (Favorite 80s/90s Production) - Hamburg 1986

Literal peak. I refuse to speak more about this one just because its the only 80s/90s production ive watched in full aside from 1998. Just watch 1995 Part 1 and 2 here, and 1999 Part 1 and 2 here. Id also like to give my flowers to the original broadway run and casts aswell, they made history with that production.

Day 8 (Favorite Replica Prop) - SkimbleTrain(TM)

What i would pay to relive watching the reveal for the first time. If i recall correctly Skimbleshanks was the song that brought me here because of its absolute unapologetic whimsy! The part were the train falls apart and they all flop around dramatically is also so fun, 10/10.
