Given my subject of the day, I'd be curious to hear what all you have to say about the Bohemian Club, and the Cremation of Care ritual in particular.

It's a leftover from the early 20th century when the hip thing for rich people to do was "Join a knockoff freemason lodge" because it was a hobby that came with a significant degree of exclusivity and conspicuous consumption.

A lot of the pageantry around these sorta groups was LITERALLY pageantry. As in, a popular thing for them do was hold beauty pageants. Looking back on the ritual aspect of these sorta events, they are -and I say this as a bisexual trans person- faggy as all hell, but in a lame rich straight people kinda way. It's like if you took the idea of Camp and then applied it to the sort of people who take etiquette classes.

Thats how the Cremation of Care reads to me. It's just fucking tacky and precious. Real Americans just chug a 40 and do donuts in a parking lot if they want to unwind.
