I can't decide if Beverly's therapy sessions with Deanna are super deep or delightful chaos. Probably both, tbh.
Like, some days she goes in all "So, I've been reflecting on my own mortality and the fleeting nature of life. I'm preoccupied with regret and thinking about all the paths I didn't take, the choices I could have made—or shouldn't have made..."
But then other times, she practically kicks the door down, her lab coat pockets stuffed with chocolate, and she just goes, "So, I've been fucking my Nana's ghost boyfriend. I'm literally basking in the glory of my kink for non-human energy forms and shapeshifters!"

I love this episode so much it makes me cry every time

Star Trek: The Next Generation 5x17 - "The Outcast" (16 March 1992)
for context: the enterprise encountered a race of non-gendered aliens which finds gender specificity unacceptable. if someone was discovered, they would be "reeducated" with the use of "psychotectic therapy". (ring any bells?) the character, Soren, states that she has a female gender identity. in the end of the episode, she was discovered and before being sent to "therapy" she gives this speech:
"I am female. I was born that way. I have had those feelings, those longings, all of my life. It is not unnatural. I am not sick because I feel this way. I do not need to be helped. I do not need to be cured. What I need, and what all of those who are like me need, is your understanding. And your compassion. We have not injured you in any way. And yet we are scorned and attacked. And all because we are different. What we do is no different from what you do. We talk and laugh. We complain about work. And we wonder about growing old. We talk about our families and we worry about the future. And we cry with each other when things seem hopeless. All of the loving things that you do with each other – that is what we do. And for that we are called misfits, and deviants and criminals. What right do you have to punish us? What right do you have to change us? What makes you think you can dictate how people love each other?"

One of my favorite things from Patrick Stewart’s memoir is that when he was a teenager, he was a really fast runner and kept moving up the ranks in track and field but these races started interfering with his theater practices so he started purposefully losing and his coach found out and was furious with him and I don’t think he realizes he was basically living a 1950’s North Yorkshire version of High School Musical.

Whenever I need to do something challenging, my best friend @systematicnonsense always encourages me by saying "Do it for Space Daddy," and once I've done it, they say "you've made Space Daddy proud" (which, I can confirm, is an EXCELLENT motivator).
For my birthday, they made me this shirt aka THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT OF ALL TIME. Did I cry when they gave it to me? Yes. Will I ever take this shirt off? No I will not.
They're not even a Star Trek person, they just know me so well 😭

You know?
But actually do you ever think about how Beverly Crusher's greatest fear is losing people, because she's already experienced so much loss, and then she gets beamed into a universe where everyone alive that she cares about disappears one by one. She is living in her nightmare, but she STILL FIGURES OUT HOW TO GET HERSELF OUT. Alone.

The joke is that Picard hates kids but I don’t think that’s true. He hates Wesley for like 5 episodes before he finally cools off, but other kids just make him uncomfortable bc he hasn’t figured out how to talk to them. The guy’s kind of socially awkward when not talking to people in a professional capacity. I think it’s kind of telling that, in the episode where he gets trapped in an elevator with a group of kids, the way he works around his issues around them is by going “ok so let’s all pretend that you’re starfleet officers, and i as your captain can just sort of. direct you to follow proper safety procedures while acting as close to usual as i possibly can.” and the kids love it because they love being treated like adults’ peers. It’s a good way of working with the social skills he has.
