Domingo nods but, before Ignacio can turn to return to the games room—walk right back into hell—he reaches out and holds Ignacio’s sleeve like a rejected child. It’s the surprise that stops Ignacio from moving and it’s the look on Domingo’s face that urges him to listen. But Domingo is still silent as he outstretches his arms, eyes trained on the floor. Ignacio’s chest tightens. He expects his body to move away, expects himself to reject the plea for contact and turn away, but he doesn’t. He pulls Domingo in instead and feels the weight of his arms wrapped around him, not intimately or intrusively but just there, and it’s— It’s— It’s nice. He feels the air entering Domingo’s chest and tries to breathe in sync, slow and calm, and then feels moisture building up on his waterline, prickling at the corners of his eyes. Ignacio quickly blinks it away, but his eyes are heavy and he feels something that might be a sob caught in his throat. Not here. Not now.
