It's funny how WISH was criticized for having "bad animation." The claims made by faux critics is that it's copying Spider-verse.
Anyone who's actually known about animation other than being a "fan" knows that Spider-verse does not own the "hybrid 3D-2D" style. Hell, The Last Wish was literally praised for "imitating it."
This is interesting because in the late 2000's, Disney had originally made Tangled, back then as "Rapunzel Unbraided" to look like a moving painting.
youtube
They scrapped this idea because they don't have the technology for a software at the time, but still kept the hand drawn vibes on the character design.
Heck, Disney even made short films to test if they can make a full film in this hybrid style. WISH just happens to be the perfect film for them to make a full feature in this style of animation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They even use the style in some of their movies in brief scenes like in Raya and Strange World.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other criticisms about WISH's animation that it looks like Sofia the First or that it's colorless are just goat crap complaints mostly because "it's different".
The "rumor" that WISH was originally going to be animated in 2D is just false. Disney had numerous made statements that most of their newer original films were intended to be animated in hand drawn, but don't have the time and budget to do so. "Oh, they're a billion dollar company, why can't they just hire hand drawn animators?" Simple reason, either they are retired, working on other projects, teaching at art schools or are still working at Disney, doing character animation for the 3D artists to follow. So, making a film purely for the sake of "bringing back 2D animation" is not worth getting these animators back.
2D animation was DYING during the 2000's. The reason why Princess and the Frog failed to bring 2D animation back was because of its writing, being released alongside Live Action Pocahontas Blue Edition, and that its mostly tied to the Disney staples that were criticized at the time.
Even if WISH was 2D animated, people will still criticize it. Which just shows that the animation alone, regardless of style cannot carry a movie.
Dismissing a work and calling it A.I garbage all because you hate the company behind it is just apathetically insulting the artists and animators who are just doing their job. A job that they are at risk losing to the things you are comparing them to.

i dont think anyone should be allowed to call their work a “deconstruction of a genre” if it is abundantly apparent from that work that they just straight up. hate the genre.

i feel like too many people forget about crona "i hate, hate, hate everyone" gorgon. maybe its not that serious and just a taste thing but i really dont like making crona only ever timid and quiet. crona is angry and judgemental and screams and hurts themself and above all else is terrified of losing whatever sense of safety they can find and chooses their actions based on that

To paraphrase that lady on Tiktok telling people to stop modernizing Victorian houses: “If you want a DISNEY MOVIE WITH ROMANCE, go watch a DISNEY MOVIE WITH ROMANCE, STOP RUINING ALL THE OTHER ONES! I WANNA SEE SOMETHING NEW SOMETIMES!”
Tumblr media
It's funny to me how the comments on this fan animation scream "WE COULD'VE HAD THE NEXT RAPUNZEL AND EUGENE" when it literally opens with a shot of Sabino and a younger Asha fading into an older Asha and an absent Sabino, indicating he passed and ends with revealing that Star was Sabino.

sometimes I wonder if the reaction to wish could be explained by a lot of (american) online audiences being irony-poisoned because it is interesting to see that it did well overseas and when I talk to people in real life, a lot of people genuinely enjoyed it

Any thoughts on Steven Universe
Mixed feelings. Some of it is good, there are some episodes and characters I like and hell the weapon designs and backgrounds and locations look pretty… but the constant lore dumping and plot points (most of which end up going nowhere), ending of the show, and the morals of “violence only begets more violence, let’s all live in peace even if you’re are worst enemies and have hunted many of us down for years.” It’s just…. Bleh. It doesn’t sit right with me, even when I was growing up watching this show I felt something wasn’t right with just letting mass murderers go free!
It honestly feels like a rush job show made by a creator who was scared they wouldn’t get another chance at making a show and decided to throw all of their ideas into a pot. Word of advice: If we’re making stories, of course we’re terrified of them being our last and not getting a chance to write the stuff we want to write about ever again, but that doesn’t mean you should take all those ideas for future stories and shove it all into one big magnum opus.
That’s what creates messes like Steven Universe: the show that wants to talk about war, death, and abuse (all the things that CANNOT BE FORGIVEN OR FORGOTTEN), but at the same time everyone needs to be forgiven and also here’s fifty references to animes I like.

I cannot stress enough how dangerous KOSA is.
killing safe spaces endangers people's lives. many minors and people in marginalized groups losing online friends and spaces can and will kill many people's happiness and in the worst case, the will to live.
I personally keep going because of my online friends. I will lose them if KOSA passes.
this is the same case for many minors (and adults) online.
censoring sexual health will be terrible for many. if there are people out there having sex without knowing the proper safety precautions to take to prevent injury/illness, it will be massively horrific.
all outcry for a ceasefire in Palestine and activism will be censored to oblivion.
if there are people who live in unsafe households, they might never be able to find safety until they become adults, which is far too late.
KOSA is a sick attempt to make the internet a place where there are few ways to be safe.
stop KOSA. it will literally save fucking lives.
sign petitions to stop it. please. spread awareness.

Hey, maybe you don’t use tiktok anymore. Maybe its gone to shit. Maybe you think banning it isn’t a big deal.
Don’t let tiktok get banned. Because its not about tiktok or kids online or any of that. Its about how many rights can be taken away from us, how far these officials and congressman can go, how much power they can accrue without us fighting back.
Do you know why KOSA is back for a fucking third time in a much tamer form? Because they are trying their hardest to pass it. It doesn’t keep anyone safe, and even if the newest version had anything good in it, It still shouldn’t be pushed through because of its horrible history.
We all know that if we give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. I know its exhausting, but they WANT to exhaust us. So don’t let them. Fight.

“KOSA wont pass, it got rejected the last two times!”
It wasn’t passed because people spoke out against it. People called and emailed their senators. So, CALL / EMAIL YOUR SENATORS. MAKE IT KNOWN THAT WE DO NOT WANT THIS BILL TO PASS!
“But its unconstitutional-“ There’ve been multiple bills passed before that are unconstitutional. This will not be any different to them, they do not care.
STOP KOSA!!!

The end of online privacy
Now, this isn't something I usually post about from my silly goofy k1nk account (reminder to minors to not follow or scroll this acount).
But I have more followers on here than main, and this is extremely important. Like, scary shit.
This applies to everyone. If you're reading this? It's going to effect you.
I'm sure perhaps some of you have seen around about a this thing going around... KOSA, is one of the ways it's being referred to.
If this shit passes, lemme tell you...
LGBTQ+ adults and minors seeking help and community,
people looking for abortions,
people organizing protests,
anyone using their free speech to voice concerns about injustices,
even FAN ARTISTS...
Even people reading fan fiction...
And for the purposes of where I'm posting from... people sharing and enjoying their k1nks, wanting to post things with safety and privacy... smut artists and writers, people even LOOKING for smut...
It's all gone. No privacy.
They'll have your face, your name, your age, where you live.
You'll need an ID to use any US-based platform, even if you're NOT in the United States.
Instead of dooming, here's what you can do to stop this shit in it's tracks 👍

Here is a website where you can sign a letter just by filling out a form, (it takes less than 30 seconds) and where you can call reps.
I HIGHLY suggest leaving calls if you're able, and if you have phone shyness, do this after 6pm, since it will leave messages instead.
I'm shy, but I did it!
Here's another letter to sign, takes less than 20 seconds.
Here is a form you can fill out sharing how the social media has POSITIVELY effected you.
Share all of this with as many people as you can. Our safety, freedom, joy, and protection online is at risk more than ever.

Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.
Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.
Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?
So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)
Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.
Please do reblog for awareness.
