Ok, quick gripe about Ninjago I've been harboring since childhood.

HOW are the ninja just ok with the Serpentine living in the sewers??? They weren't even really villains they were just fighting back preemptively bc humans literally locked them in inescapable tombs for thousands of years and would probably do it again! Like, imagine if your entire race was fucking Cask of Amontillado-ed for the forseeable future with no food or water? The hypnobrai were encased in an ice cave for fuck sake! Snakes are cold blooded!!!! Its a wonder the Anacondrai were the only ones who all died out with a single survivor! And the anacondrai generals were sent to the fucking Shadow realm!!! For what???? What did they do apart from the fair warfare which you both engaged in? It better fuckin be some pretty atrocious war crimes, and even then i doubt they're topping what the humans did to them.

AND THEN The snake ppl actually managed to set aside their differences with the humans and give up on their vandetta. They lived in the literal sewer to avoid being harassed by the ninja for their (imo justified) acts of violence, and when the ninja find them they actively help them because scales has a stable life and a family and doesn't want to cause trouble. And how do the ninja thank them? BY LEAVING THEM IN THE SEWERS AND FORGETTING ABOUT THEM. SCALES HAS A WIFE AND KID AND YOU LET HIM AND HIS PEOPLE JUST LIVE IN YOUR POOPOO SHIT TUNNELS?? I KNOW THEY'RE AFRAID OF BEING OUTCASTS IN HUMAN SOCIETY BUT ITS GOTTA BE BETTER THAN LIVING IN LITERAL EXCREMENT. INTRODUCING THEM INTO SOCIETY WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE A VERY COMPELLING STORY AND I FEEL LIKE ITS KIND OF THE NINJA'S OBLIGATION AS HEROES TO HELP THEM??

Do you think these are related or coincidental? Because if so that's wild.

(Using the radiohead song as an example bc i can't find anywhere that gives an actual definition so i'm going off the best reference I have to site.) Basically I've heard (but have been unable to confirm) that "banana company", or banana co for short, is used derogatorily to refer to companies that exploits foreign labor to the degree of political corruption, as referenced to in the definition of banana republic. This is how it's used in the song i use as an example. This could be brushed off as a mere coincidence on account of the fact "banana company" is such a generic name. But that's actually part of what makes it so weird, because lego usually has their own made up brands they use for products/services in sets, ie Octan, and don't have any problem with making up one-off companies they're not likely to use again. Sure, some of the names can be generic (a lot of the time they just put the word Lego as part of the brand name, and one company is literally just called "city"), but none of them are so lazy that they're just "the (insert product here) company". As a result, the usage of "Banana Co" feels deliberate, and this is the closest thing I can find to an explanation. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a hidden jab from one of the designers.

Here's some more additons I wanted to add that, frankly, only make this shit worse to be honest.

1) Looking back on the serpentine war flashback from tournament of elements, apparently most serpentine tribes DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A TRAINED MILITARY, and were having their asses handed to them. The Anacondrai were the only ones with trained warriors, which is why THEIR generals got sent to superhell, while everyone else was just put into tombs (because dying of starvation and overpopulation is SOO much better). I mean, the "army" of other snakes before the anacondrai come in are like... 5 unarmed guys and a bunch of generals taking a village hostage BY THEMSELVES. Meanwhile the anacondrai are in the dozens at least and they're all actually armed with swords and even ARMOR. And it's not like it's a matter of animatikn limitations either, because the anacondrai Which makes me wonder what brought them to the point of being so desparate as to fight the war with what appears to be their reserve troops who haven't even passed training? Is this taking place late into the war, after all their soldiers died and they're just fighting to the last man, and only just now got the anacondrai on their side??? Are the fighting being occupied by the humans because they don't want to lose their way of life? No matter what way you spin this it does not look good on the side of the elemental masters' part.

2) SPEAKING of the Anacondrai generals, nothing speaks volumes about the elemental masters being shitty people quite like how they handle their trial after the war. The second the serpentine actually put up a fight you take it personally enough to single out their best and magically send them to hell once they're in your custody. Absolutely petty and insecure assholes. And this "proud tribe who fought with every ounce of venom" (the show's words, not mine) BEGGED FOR MERCY. This isn't even a matter of garmadon abusing his power to punish them personally, WU WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO HIM DURING THAT SENTENCING.

3) The Humans using snake charming flutes to mind control the serpentine should qualify as an actual war crime. Like, the idea of them being locked in tombs forever was already bad enough WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU FORCED THEM TO DO IT TO THEMSELVES BY TAKING AWAY THEIR BODILY AUTONOMY USING A PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTACK.

4) The ninja's disaster response has gross favoritism. I can't remember a single time they saved a serpentine during a climactic event, meanwhile they save humans every few episodes. And it gets worse. Let me ask you this: What the fuck happened to the serpentine, who live in the SEWERS, during the events of the wojira flood? Because as much as they probably prepared for potential storm flooding (what with being stuck living in a massive water drainage system and all), there's no way they were ready for that amount of water. Im not sure the sewer system itself was designed to handle that. And before you say it, yes, i know the ninja were a bit overwhelmed and could barely help rescue people. But they still go out of their way to rescue many HUMAN civilians, but not once do they even THINK about the serpentine, let alone CHECK UP ON THEM. They are quite literally THE MOST AT-RISK GROUP FOR THIS NATURAL DISASTER AND YOU JUST FORGOT ABOUT THEM??? I KNOW THEY'RE CONSIDERED SECOND CLASS CITIZENS BY YOUR SHITTY SOCIETY BUT THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS, IDK, YOUR JOB??? If the crystal zombies hit the serpentine first during crystallized, they sure as hell aint secure from a massive FLOOD. And what about when garmadon destroyed the entire city with a giant stone golem?? If that thing can demolish buildings, I have no doubt it's causing structural damage in the sewer tunnels below it while it stomps around.

5) They first find out about the serpentine's living conditions in the 4th season (so in other words they're redeemed the immediate next season after they were the main villains), the ninja unintentionally lead this season's villains to the serpentine village who start terrorizing them, they fix the problem they caused, and then just leave and never come back. The only time they actually helped the serpentine, it was out of convenience, and otherwise they just din't even think about them, or simply don't care. I don't even need to evidence their lack of visits with anything other than the wiki's listing of all the times skales's wife and child appear. Hint: it's once.

Currently obsessed with the idea of batman adopting a new robin (or maybe gets his own title), but like, it's being orchestrated by someone else. I don't mean like the whole "human trafficker 'mother' is fucking up harper row's life to turn her into the best robin batman could ask for because he's pretending to work for her" thing. I mean someone who catches batman's eye and becomes a bat family member without him knowing there's something wrong with them until it's too late. A cuckoo in a robin's nest.

In my mind i picture it this way: Batman takes in an at-risk youth who seemingly relates to him in ways that are almost closer to him than the other robins, someone who wants to atone for failing to stop something traumatic in their past by preventing it from happening to others even at his own detriment. He fears killing because he knows if he starts he wont be able to stop himself from taking the rage out on criminals. when they gets their alter ego, they use it to distance themself from their self loathing by percieving the vigilante as their true self. They're closed off and cold but well meaning and they always do the right thing. It's close enough to what bruce is that he can empathize and see himself in them and they can get closer to him than the previous robins, but different enough to where he doesn't suspect there's something wrong. The man who killed their parents (or whatever happened to them) is still out there, and helping them catch him will both give bruce the chance to give them the closure he never had, in a cathartic way and also keep them from making the wrong decision. Too bad this new bat family member is a sleeper agent. Someone very powerful, who knows bruce all to well (and has the same level of skill, resilience and tech, if not more. The kind of villain to use magic, tech, genetic enineering, and anything else they can get their hands on. The kind that would practice things like singing/playing music and physical comedy, simply because they know there are worlds where music is part of the magic system or everything operates on toon logic, and they adapt to it. Perhaps even an alternate reality version of bruce or a multiversal threat who's been spying on him because it knows he's the backbone of the justice league.) took some poor gotham kid and has been reverse flash level fucking up their life to make them the perfect candidate to become batman's robin, then psychologically conditioned them (or just put something untracable in their brain/mind) so that they would be able to access batman's technology and information without him knowing. Of course the villain doesn't rely on just those tactics, though. It keeps bruce and its puppet in a game of cat and mouse where it tests how much batman cares about his new child, putting them in situations that only further its goals while seemingly targeting the new protege. If it does end up killing them (like hell will it risk not trying its hardest to kill them and let batman figure out it wants alive) it wont get too bent out of shape because it can always replace them since batman takes in strays like a cat lady, not to mention people rarely stay dead when superheroes of any level are involved. If bruce starts getting too close to the truth it can always just pull red herrings out of its ass, and change its face as much as it wants, never showing its true form and instead masquerading as other villains. It can stall as much as it needs while its little pet project keeps unknowingly pushing the batfam apart and wait for the right moment to shut his comms down while it kills the justice league or even starts with him. Maybe the new batfam member is even some sort of vessel that the villain is intrinsically tied to and can control like its own body, and it makes batman's own found family kill him just for the fun of it.

(I think i got carried away describing the villain but we all know the mentally ill and self destructive teen/young adult who sees batman as both a father figure and a superhero aspiration is the main draw. Especially if they want to have a genuine connection with the batfam, despite the fact they've been subconsciously conditioned to actively tear them apart and just generally hurt/push away the people they care about. Not that that's unheard of in this family.)
