Michael Bogin: Galàpagos Gallery Michael Bogin's exhibit of paintings titled the Galàpagos shows the colors and shapes that Bogin experienced from spending some months in the area of South America. I personally enjoyed this gallery because of the different colors and shapes that form each one of Bogin's paintings. I feel as if Bogin represents the island of the Galàpagos well because of the surprise that he says he puts in each one. His paintings are unpredictable and exciting at the same time.

Ryan M Pfeiffer and Rebecca Walz: Pantheon
At first looking at the work of Pfeiffer and Walz, I immediately thought about how beautiful and delicate their paintings were. I felt as if there was a story inside each one of their works. Love stories, hate stories, emotional stories and happy stories. I saw so much detail in each piece and loved when there was a spark of color in the mostly black and white exhibit. After reading the description about these art collaborators and how their work “synthesizes concerns about sex, death, myth and transformation”, I started to see those identities in each of their paintings. I also enjoy how they say that collaboration is the bringing together of opposites because I see that in their work.
My favorite piece in this collection is the first two big paintings that you see right as you walk in. They are both so powerful in that the subjects in the photos have intense looks on their faces and are in the act of moving. I think this was a perfect way to introduce this gallery because you jump right into the heart of Pfeiffer and Walz’s work. Overall, I certainly enjoyed Pantheon and how this gallery speaks to its viewers.

Project 2: Photography is Magic
Artist Statement:
My serious of photographs explore different uses of lighting, depth of field, and contrast. I want to show the difference in light when dealing with similar but diverse scenery. Using a film camera amplifies the importance of brightness and darkness in photographs because of the black and white filter. Through each of my photos, I played around with shapes and the darkness or lights that surrounded them. Most of my pictures were taken in New York City, where there are shining lights everywhere you look. The lights contrasted with the darkness of the night sky show the layers of light within the photograph. My last photo was taken during the day of an apple with a contrasted background. This photo is unlike the others because of the brightness of the day. This project is helpful in observing the ways light is played around within film photographs.

Today we did the “On Camera Flash Exercise”, where we played around with the lighting settings on a digital camera. The photos above are the best photos that my group got for each separate section of the project. We took photos in the same places, with and without flash. The one we took outside thought looked better with the flash. The ones inside mostly looked better with the flash, except for the one that we place a piece of toilet paper in front of the flash. My favorite photo that we took was when Colman was running and we got him in action. The camera that was placed on a tripod, taken in P mode, luckily came out great. This exercise taught me about the lighting settings and flash exposure settings on a digital camera. (10/12/16).

Project 2: Photography is Magic This was my first full print for this project. I clearly didn't line up for he sides correctly and I ant to make the photograph look more dimensional, as it looks extremely flat in this photo. Next I will try putting the 3.5 filter over my photo to make it more dimensional! (10/5/16)

Project 2: Photography is Magic We started used film camera, something I have no experience with. Once I figured out how to load my camera and take my photos, I was able to then learn how to develop my film and eventually enlarge them with the enlargers we used for the Photogram assignment. After enlarging our roll of films I picked out one photo that stood out to me. I then proceeded to enlarge that one picture onto multiple tests strips to see which filter, exposure light, and time of light exposure worked well with the photo. I ended up loving the 3.5 filter and 5 seconds until 16 exposure lighting. (10/5/16)

Artist Statement:
My work on photograms explores my fascination with big cities that I have visited around the world. I love the busyness, the people, the structure, and most importantly, the skyscrapers and buildings. Big cities have always intrigued me. The way they change the shape of the skies is magical and addictive to look at. Whether you are physically looking towards or mentally imagining New York, London, Paris, or Pisa you see those dominate towers that represent that city. When you imagine Pisa, Italy it is common to picture the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This would be the same for Paris and the Eiffel Tower and London and Big Ben.
I focused on these beautiful structures not only because of their shapes, but because New York, London, Paris and Pisa are all cities that I have visited and absolutely loved. Putting them together, forming one picture perfect city, is what I intended to do with this project. What if there was a place where you could visit all of the main tourist attractions? Obviously this is unrealistic, but it is interesting to see how this could be set up. Since photograms do not require taking actually pictures of the real world, I was able to play around with different placements of each building, and even shifted them left and right to show how unrealistic this perfect city is. I hope that when viewing my fictional city, people can use their imagination and pretend to see a real city.
