I turned auto caps back on today. They’ve been off for years, since I met my old friend. I am struggling with not knowing her. I know it was not just her fault, but mine too, but that doesn’t mean I’m not angry. Why did it end like that. Why did I let it end like that. I’m listening to the Lumineers, and thinking about the way things went. Nothing should’ve went down the way it did. I am still so angry. It’s been six months since we stopped speaking and yet it still hurts, still sometimes feels like a knife is being twisted in my chest when I think for too long. I miss her. I wish we’d never met. I thought I would marry her someday. Sometimes I worry that relationship ending ruined a fundamental part of my brain. I do not want to date or love anyone like that. Ever. I gave my whole soul to her. It was not enough to keep her in my life. Some people just aren’t made for each other, and apparently that was us. I like to imagine that there’s a universe where we moved in together after highschool and fell in love more slowly, more maturely. A universe where we did not ruin each other. I hope I haunt her the same way she haunts me. I’m considering going to church for the first time in my life due to her. Dear, have you seen what happened? Seen what became of me? You have no way to know, but I hope you can feel it in the universe. My main satisfaction is knowing that when I buy a truck, she will never know it, never hear the growl of a diesel engine waiting for her.

I miss you. I’m sorry. I’m trying to move on. I hope life is good to you, old friend.
