Shoutout to kremy lecroux to being the most character ever. Like genuinely just a fucking genius creation. He loves unicorns. He can’t help but just use all the people around him for his gain. He says whattadoo. He lies and manipulates so much that getting cursed to not lie for a few hours gives him a panic attack. He’s a fucking alligator. He somehow manages to be in the messiest situationship with his bodyguard slash best friend slash goon slash maybe the only person he really trusts in the world while also being Literally Married to him but STILL failing to communicate his feelings to. actually just a teeny tiny bit more that i only just realized i forgot to include in the last part—

other than ivy and jonny (who i have clearly already listed; jonny doesn’t get introduced with music because his instrument is his voice and ivy may or may not be playing in the background), raphaella and marius are the only mechanisms whose instruments do not join the band, despite allegedly being present.

this is because they actually weren’t present for the original event with dr. pilchard— the song literally ends with him being pushed into “the doc’s” lab, whom we can almost certainly assume is dr. carmilla’s lab since raph is the only other mech with a lab, and she has never been referred to as “doc”.

so, pilchard interacted with the mechanisms crew some time before carmilla “fell out the airlock”, which means neither raphaella or marius could have actually been there, because they were the only two mechanisms that weren’t mechanized by carmilla!!

even though the lyrics describe marius and raph being in the brig with all the other mechs, the instrumentals tell the truth that this happened before they joined the crew at all, and they’re just included in the lyrics…. for Funsies and Plot, i guess!!

so, yeah!

yes i know i said a “teeny tiny bit” more analysis and then wrote four more paragraphs shut the fuck up-

me: in “teatime with the kaiser”, the last song in gunpowder tim vs. the moon kaiser, the music is mostly a mix of guitar, bass, and drums behind jonny’s lyrical narration. after the line “tim looked the soldier in the eye / and he gave the order, ‘FIGHT!’” the music is joined by the glockenspiel, which is specifically one of the only instruments played by the toy soldier. in the part of the story where the soldier was brought into the fight, the song itself brings the soldier into the music!

MECHANISMS REF IMAGE MASTERPOST

Okay, so I put together refs for each of the mechs as best I can. I tried to avoid anything in a show lighting, but sometimes it can't be helped. Notes will be underneath each section

Whole cast

Ivy is the only character leaning on the wall in the second image, but is roughly as tall as Ashes

Jonny D'Ville

Jonny in earlier shows like TTBT wears a black shirt underneath instead of the white. He occasionally has red or black painted nails and his goggles are either black or bronze. He has a black 7 of diamonds. He often holds a mic - which is a Shure Super 55

Drumbot Brian

He usually has just the flower in his hat, but sometimes it's replaced with RAM or his drumsticks. His goggle has a very small crack at the base. The rings seem to be a bit of a motherboard and screws? The visible heart is something I can only find in one picture, but it's cool

Gunpowder Tim

Sometimes wears jeans instead of dark brown trousers. His eye scars are more geometric than Jonny's, and he has dark eye shadow around the eyes where Jonny uses just eyeliner

Raphaella la Cognizi

The top is three layers: a white/cream shirt, a brown puffy shirt and a a top layer which has a halter neck. Occasionally one or both of the undershirts won't be worn (see HNOC liveshow). Tights can be blue or black. Light up wings from DTTM

The leggings/tights are sometimes black and sometimes deep blue

Ivy Alexandria

A few different outfits, in liveshows they're also wearing some outfits not shown here - but always black and red with a waistcoat of some kind.

Nastya Rasputina

The necklace is a little cat :3

Marius von Raum

Kneepads in DTTM. The cards are a jack and ace of hearts. Necktie either has a white or gold pattern on it, but they don't always wear it. The green jacket has a tailcoat

The Toy Soldier

Hair varies a lot. Sometimes it's worn down, in a ponytail or hidden under the hat. Sometimes nails are painted red or black

Ashes O'Reilly

In live shows they often wear this eyeliner which has thick bars that go behind the ears - but I couldn't find any clear pictures of this. Though their outfits changes, always mostly black with some red in the hair

i am a Cruel and Unjust mechs fan and i must be banished for One Thousand Years

my mechanisms relationship headcanons!

all the mechs have been together at some point or another, but these are the only relationships that really stuck.

obviously, Nastya and Aurora are in a very happy monogamous, intimate relationship, there’s no doubt about that. most of the other mechs make fun of them for their monogamy but it’s all in good fun.

the prison mechs (Ivy, Raphaella, and Marius) have all been officially together since the Bifrost Incident. Ivy and Raph were dating beforehand, and Marius was dragged in only semi-willingly while they were in prison. in timelines where they save or are reunited with Lyf, they are part if the prison polycule as well.

Marius is generally the hardest to determine if he’s in a relationship with someone or not due to the fact that he’s the most physically affectionate of all the mechs. he will just give cheek or forehead smooches at random and the recipient is just left confused.

Tim and Ashes have a sort of friends-with-benefits, on-and-off fling relationship. it’s not romantic, they’re just arsonists who like to mess around sometimes.

drumbot brian and jonny have the most confusing relationship among the mechanisms. they’re queer-platonic partners, technically, but for some unknown reason, jonny refuses to acknowledge it. brian is unbothered by this, but the other mechs are endlessly frustrated because from their perspective, the two are just pining forever. it’s very entertaining. they keep trying to set brian and jonny up but they already spend most nights cuddling in one of their beds. can you tell i’m a two of hearts truther.
