Instead, he said, “Go on, Jesper. There’s a line of credit waiting for you at the Crow Club. Play till morning or your luck runs out, whichever comes first.”

Girls when Besides, Jesper would smooth it all over. A few drinks in and a few hands up and the sharpshooter’s good nature would return. He held a grudge about as well as he held his liquor, and he had a gift for making Kaz’s victories sound like they belonged to everyone.

Girls when Jesper hadn’t been able to miss Kaz’s little skirmish with the Kaelish. Kaz was usually unshakeable during a job, but now he was on edge, and Jesper didn’t know why. Part of him wanted to ask, but he knew that was the stupid part, the hopeful farm boy who picked the worst possible person to care about, who searched for signs in things that he knew deep down meant nothing- when Kaz chose him for a job, when Kaz played along with one of his jokes. He could have kicked himself. He’d finally seen the infamous Kaz Brekker without a stitch of clothing, and he’d been too worried about ending up on a pike to pay proper attention.

Girls when “Ask me why, Jesper.” “Why?” “You were the one who sold us out to Pekka Rollins. You’re the reason we were ambushed when we tried to leave Ketterdam. You almost got us all killed.”

Girls when “Saints, Jesper. You really haven’t learned anything in the Dregs, have you? You’re still the same dumb farm boy who stepped off the boat.”

Girls when Kaz stalked away, trying to clear his head. He knew Jesper hadn’t realized what he was setting in motion, but he also knew he could never really trust Jesper again. And maybe he’d kept him in the dark about Wylan because he wanted to punish him a little.

Girls when Then why make him walk into a gambling den? Wylan thought but didn’t say. And why make Jesper give up something that meant so much to him? There had to be another way to keep Smeet playing. But those weren’t even the right questions. The real question was why Jesper did it all without hesitating. Maybe he was still looking for Kaz’s approval, hoping to earn back his favor after Jesper’s slip had led them into the ambush at the docks that had nearly cost Inej her life. Or maybe Jesper wanted something more than forgiveness from Kaz.

Girls when “Has anyone noticed this whole city is looking for us, mad at us, or trying to kill us?” “So?” “Well, usually it’s just half the city.”

Girls when “My revolvers! Oh, hello, you gorgeous things. You got them back!” “The safe at the Cumulus is an easy crack.” “Thank you, Kaz, Thank you.” “What good is a shooter without his guns? You’ve been in the red too long. We all have. This is the night we start paying our debts.”

Girls when Was that actual concern? Jesper tried not to wonder if it was for him or the job.

Girls when Jesper swung first. Kaz dodged right and then they were grappling. They slammed into the wall, knocked heads, drew apart in a flurry of punches and grabs.

Girls when “Jesper hasn’t shot him.” “Kaz isn’t using his cane.”

Girls when “You are not bringing my father into this.” “He’s already in it, Jes. You brought him into it when you had him mortgage his farm for your degree in wasting money.”

Girls when “What is wrong with him?” “Same thing that’s always wrong with him. He’s Kaz Brekker.”

Girls when “Who’s Jordie?” “Someone I trusted. Someone I didn’t want to lose.”

Girls when “Actually, you should put my share in my father’s name. I don’t think... I don’t think I’m ready for that kind of money just yet.” “That’s the right move, Jes.” It was a little like forgiveness.

Girls when “Tell Jesper he’s missed. Around The Slat.” From Kaz that was as good as a bouquet of flowers and a heartfelt hug- and it would mean the world to Jesper.

I made this "body ink" - whatever you wanna call it - exactly one year ago ! I was walking in a parc and I had a pen in my pocket. I just stopped and sat on a bench, legs crossed. I began to draw on my thigh, and here we go xD
