For @nostalgiamonth's "Food" prompt. The classic Jell-O recipe book, first published in 1962 by the General Foods Corporation as far as I could find. There's no date inside my copy of it.
Powdered Jell-O gelatin was first introduced in America in 1897, as a way to make gelatin-based dishes quicker and easier to make. It's popularity soared in the 1930s with the advent of electric refrigeration, with sales peaking in 1968, after which they began a slow decline over the next two decades. As more and more women entered the work force, they didn't have time or energy to craft elegantly molded desserts and salads to show off their creativity in the kitchen, at least not on any kind of a regular basis. By the late '80s, with sales having decreased by 50% since their peak, the brand changed to marketing their product as a kid's snack, and selling it pre-made in plastic cups. I can't imagine anything more boring, so let's return to the sixties, when Jell-O briefly offered such flavours as celery, Italian Salad, Mixed Vegetables, and Seasoned Tomato to use as bases for their salad recipes. None of them lasted long, however although personally if I wanted to encase cole slaw or potato salad ingredients in Jell-O, the Italian Salad or Celery flavours sound much more appealing than adding them to a fruit flavour. So get ready to add some veggies to fruit gelatin! Mm, doesn't this Vegetable Trio Loaf look delicious?

You could also try the Barbecue Salad, which doesn't actually feature any barbeque sauce in the basic recipe, but which does offer suggestions for extra flavour!
Ingredients: 1 package Lemon or Orange Jell-O 3 Oz 1 1/4 cups hot water 1 8 oz. can of tomato sauce 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar 1/2 teaspoon salt Dash of pepper Directions Dissolve Jell-O in hot water. Add tomato sauce and other ingredients. Blend. Pour into individual molds. Chill until firm. Place on crisp greens with mayonnaise. For extra spiciness, add any of the following before chilling: onion juice, seasoning or celery salt, cayenne, Worcestershire sauce, tabasco sauce or horseradish.
If you are having Uncertain Thoughts about the edibility of this recipe, don't worry! You can simply watch this brave soul who made and taste-tested a bunch of vintage Jell-O recipes in her New Joy of Jell-O Project. (Fascinating viewing, and while I'm not going to spoiler you, I will say that not all of the recipes got a complete thumbs down, some much to her surprise.)
youtube
Or there's Chicken Mousse, if you need something to serve up at your next Sunday luncheon if you want the guests never to come back.
Last, if you by now are desperate to cleanse your palette with a more fruit-based dessert dish, I offer the Avocado Strawberry Ring, since avocados seems to be a big thing right now. I'm not a fan myself, but if you like them, this recipe got a passing grade, and since the strawberries are only a garnish for the center of the ring, you can substitute any other fresh fruit of your preference. I'd think a smaller berry like blueberries or blackberries would like nice, myself. Or cherries.
And if anyone grew up on any fancy Jell-O recipes, I'd love to hear about them -- both the good and the bad.

For @nostalgiamonth's Monday "music" prompt --
American singer-songwriter Jim Croce wrote Time In A Bottle when he found out his wife of five years, Ingrid, was finally pregnant with a much wanted child. It appeared on his first major label solo album You Don't Mess Around With Jim in 1972, but was not released as a single at the time. Then, on September 12, 1973, an ABC TV movie called She Lives aired and used the song to good effect. The movie is about a young couple who fall in love, only to face a devastating battle when the woman is diagnosed with cancer. The movie ends with the cancer having gone into remission, and Time In A Bottle begins to play as the man rejoices in the fact that he's going to get a second chance at a life with the woman he loves. The television studio was deluged with calls from viewers asking about the song, and by the next morning, Croce's record label had already received 50,000 orders for the album.
Demand for the song to be released as a single increased when on September 20, while on tour to promote his next upcoming album, Jim Croce died in when the airplane he was in crashed shortly after takeoff, killing everyone on board. He was only 30 years old. Five days later, his wife received a letter that he had mailed her while on tour, saying that he wanted to quit the music business in favour of writing endeavours that would allow him to stay at home and spend more time with her and their son, Adrian James. AJ was only 8 days away from his second birthday when his father died, and the lyrics to the song -- to treasure every moment of the time you have with the people that you love, because it will never be enough -- became even more meaningful in the wake of Croce's tragic death.
Time In A Bottle was released as a single in November 1973 and entered the Billboard 100 Top 40 chart for the week ending December 1. It reached the Number One spot on December 29, three months after Croce's death, and stayed there for two weeks, a fitting memorial to a talent whose life was snuffed out way too soon.

From 1969 - 1989, this cast terrazzo hippo sculpture stood outside the entrance of the Hudson's department store in Oakland Mall in Troy, Michigan. The work of Russian-born artist Samuel Cashwan, and cast by Italian immigrant Aldo Bernardi, the sculpture entitled Sleeping Hippo was a replica of another that had been in Northland Mall since 1954. In 1989, the Dayton Hudson Co. donated the sculpture to the Detroit Zoo, where it stands outside the front gates to welcome visitors to this day and charm new generations of children, having benefited from some restoration work in 2012 to fill in cracks that had developed over the years. August is coming... and so is Nostalgia Month!
(candid footage of this blogger dusting this blog)
What is Nostalgia Month?
It is a month-wide event to celebrate nostalgia in any shape and form possible. It will run from August 1st to August 31st.
What counts as nostalgia?
Everything that makes you feel nostalgic; it doesn’t even have to be a time you yourself have lived through (The roaring twenties? Regency era? it counts). It can be about movies, series, music, places, objects, styles of fashion, make up, art, architecture, customs, tech, you name it.
What kind of content is expected?
Any kind. Videos, playlists, stories, text posts, gifsets, audios…
How can I participate?
By creating posts and tagging them with #Nostalgia Month 2023 or ,#August is for Nostalgia (Those are the tags we will be tracking). If you fear your post won’t appear on tags, you can mention this blog as well. You can also submit posts.
Are there any prompts?
We suggest the following schedule according to the days of the week, as a way to inspire and organize, but you can post any day:
Mondays are for Music; Tuesdays are for TV and Cinema; Wednesdays are for Fashion; Thursdays are for tech and objects; Fridays are for food, traditions and not widely known things of where you are from; Saturdays are for places and architecture; Sundays are for misc and everything.
Do I have to post on every category, or every day?
No, not at all. The idea is to have fun and a good time remembering things and reminding others of good or interesting things they might have forgotten about, or perhaps never heard of!
Here are about some blogs dedicated to nostalgic stuff that you can follow: @nostalgicgifs @nostalgicfun @nostalgicjukeboxgiffed @nostalgicacademia @nostalgicgamemusic-blog @nostalgicore @nostalgicphones @nostalgicpakistani-blog @nostalgicstitchcraft @nostalgiarewind @nostalgiay2k
Know other blogs dedicated to nostalgic stuff? tag them!
Hope to see you soon!

Escape to Witch Mountain | Unofficial Official Trailer | Disney+
For @nostalgiamonth – Two orphans with supernatural powers go on the run when a multimillionaire tries to use them for his own purposes. A widower touring the country in his RV becomes intrigued with their story when they show him the formerly hidden map that they discovered in the girl’s “star case”, the only link they have to their lives before they were taken in by the orphanage. But as they travel and try to stay ahead of their pursuers, fragments of the girl’s buried memories begin to resurface with increasing clarity, leading them to conclude that the shipwreck that she remembers was not from a boat foundering but a spaceship crashing, fleeing from a homeworld that had been destroyed. Their quest gains a new urgency – to discover if any other of their people survived and are waiting for them at the place known as Witch Mountain.

NOSTALGIA MONTH CHALLENGE: a song for every year of my childhood - adolescence
2006 - Bad Day - Daniel Powter
They tell me your blue sky's faded to gray They tell me your passion's gone away And I don't need no carrying on You stand in the line just to hit a new low You're faking a smile with the coffee to go You tell me your life's been way off line You're falling to pieces every time And I don't need no carrying on

2005 - Love Generation - Bob Sinclar
Why must our children play in the streets, Broken hearts and faded dreams, Peace and love to everyone that you meet, Don't you worry, it could be so sweet, Just look to the rainbow, you will see Sun will shine till eternity, I've got so much love in my heart, No-one can tear it apart, Yeah.

The Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away (TV 1964)
For @nostalgiamonth. The original line-up on the Mike Douglas Show – Bill Wyman, Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Charlie Watts. Jones tragically drowned in 1969 and was replaced first by Mick Taylor and then Ron Wood, and Wyman left the band in 1993. For contrast, here’s the Jagger/Richards/Watts/Wood line-up still looking and sounding good thirty years later in 1994:
