I wish I could remember exactly the interview or context (so if someone does remember specifically please lmk!), but years ago, I believe between C2 and C3, Matt and had expressed that one of their goals for the future was to make CR into something that could be handed off to other and future storytellers. Over the years since then, they've been working very deliberately at this goal to expand the types and styles of stories they tell and the people involved in creating them. Bringing big changes for C4 is such a huge and important step for this goal to ensure the longevity of CR itself, and personally I am *very* excited to see what this next installment will be.
I think it's also important to say that I *highly* doubt that the founding cast are going very far, even though it's likely several of them will not be regular players for the main part of the next campaign. I'm entirely certain we'll still see plenty of them, but I also hope it will give them the chance to balance the frankly wild number of other projects they have going on, as well as whatever else is going on in their lives.
And if it's not your bag, that's chill - there's still the previous thousands of hours to enjoy over and over again as much as you like, plus probably plenty more things coming up!

Now… you know I HATE…to be negative on this app. Alas some of the Critical Role fandom of really triggering me right now.
Do people not feel miserable hating on things before they’ve seen it? After all of the Critical Role you watched does the lesson of giving change a chance not stick.
Like of course you can be disappointed that Matt isn’t DMing but straight up hating already must be really tiring for you.
This will bring new critters in because some people can’t start critical role because of all of the lore from the 3 previous campaigns so this will be a good jumping off people. People complained that c3 had too many references, well now you get none.
Just try it out, if you don’t like it fair. People have different tastes and not everything can be catered to what you exactly like no matter how hard you wish it. Stop watching. Stop hate watching to complain. Literally no one is forcing you to watch.
‘I guess I’m skipping this campaign’, ‘I’m not watching this’, like you have to know you’re annoying. You can leave silently, and if you’re the type of person who can’t respectfully exit then probably won’t be missed.
And not to generalise but the most of this type of behaviour I’m seeing is from grown men. FULL GROWN MEN. Can we please show a level of maturity that supposedly comes with age?
Last thing is I’m believe that Liam said a while ago he’d picked out Sam’s character for C4 so there will probably be some old cast in it. Don’t lose your head.
That’s it. Anyways I can’t WAIT.

Okay, so I was hesitant at first—like I think a lot of us probably were—to hear that Matt isn’t dm’ing C4 and we likely won’t have the full main cast.
But the longer I consider the FULL implications of the announcement outside of just C4, I’m really, really excited what Critical Role is doing for the ttrpg and non-traditional storytelling community! We got Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford on stage repping Darrington Press, which has struck gold with Daggerheart and been investing a ton in other table top games! We got announcements that CR will collab with Legends of Avantris and Dungeons and Daddies, two of the big names out there in ttrpg actual plays! Even outside of Brennan joining CR, Dropout collabs don’t show any sign of slowing down soon (see Taliesin in the Dirty Laundry season 4 trailer), and we even had a Game Changer joke in the script!
And let’s be honest, is it all that insane that some of the main cast will be stepping back to let in new players? Travis is CEO of the whole gosh darn company. Marisha has her hands in every project they make. Ashley and Taliesin make a regular podcast now, on top of Ashley being the president of CRF, and the rest of the cast are simultaneously parents, writers on CR’s animated shows, and still HUGE names in the VO industry! They are busy folks doing a ton of cool stuff!
Long story short, CR is changing, and that’s gonna take a bit to get used to. But the world of actual plays and internet storytelling is thriving and more connected than ever before. I can’t wait to see what comes next :)

So to clarify, Brennan is going to be:
GM-ing the next core campaign for Critical Role
Launching new shows with Dropout
GM-ing more Dimension 20 campaigns
Working on Worlds Beyond Number even if not as a GM
Taking care of his young child
Making American Girl Doll shoes
I need to know where the fuck he finds his energy because like... can I borrow a tiny bit of it?

As much as I love Exandria, the Age of Umbra miniseries renewed my desires for exploring new worlds (regardless of the game system). I'm very happy with C4 direction so far and super excited to see what Brennan will cook.
Also, yay, Matt finally gets to have a break and just have fun.
#this is a win for forever dms everywhere#guys we’re getting a long-term matt pc!!!#brennan dming something for more than 20 episodes!!!!#i’m so excited#critical role

oh my god i was updating my calendar today, and i keep track of when new episodes of shows i watch come out, as one does, and i was updating cloudward ho to reflect that it’ll have 20 episodes (or so i heard at least) and as long as that’s true literally the last adventuring party will drop the same day the first episode of 9-1-1 s9 drops
i’m going to be so fed, transitioning from watching one show straight into another

I've been thinking this since Olethra's first scene but we're finally starting to see the inklings; I'm so excited to see Comfrey fall from the pedestal she has in Olethra's memory. Like it's such a good cathartic part of the heros journey and it's gonna hit so hard and I'm so pumped for it

Wondering why Comfrey never did anything about the mind-swapping mushrooms at Ramansu.
Wondering why she couldn't wait for her granddaughter to come there and join her.
Wondering about whether the narrative purpose of the magnamensa could really have just been to give the rat a chance to be a velociraptor, or if there's more narratively at stake.
Wondering about the theme of age catching up with adventurers who feel they have more to do.
