Found this in my files. Old idea I had for a comic about Darth Vader's personal assistant: Sheila, Dark Secretary for the Sith.

Doc, a serious question about calling your reps.
The reps in my state have repeatedly shown that they will outright ignore what their constituents say and bend the knee to whatever whims the current administration has. In fact, some of them have introduced legislation that is completely abhorrent.
What do you suggest I do in this situation, when it seems likely that any message I send to them is just going to be ignored anyway?
You gotta get some nagging Jewish grandmother energy! I do not expect anything from it except a constant, low grade level of irritation from my reps, but it will be constant and low grade for us both. You call and you write and you keep doing it because what they want is for you to shut the fuck up forever.
I am SOOOOOOOOO good at never ever shutting the fuck up.
There is a large protest this weekend, and I encourage you to go. If they won't listen to your calls, maybe they will listen to your body, but even if they do not, we do and say things not so that we will change the world, but to make it known that the world will not change us. I've been arrested before. My ass has been in the fire more times than I can count. And sometimes, this has even been for a good reason.
My grandfather used to tell me, "Whatever you do today, you have to sleep with tonight" and I think that's true, but I also think that "whatever you DON'T do today, you have to sleep with tonight" they want you to believe there is nothing to be done. But...America is so fucking big? There are so many of us, and so much space, and all it takes is courage and willingness to say "My fear is not stronger than my morality." Not everyone is going to do this. But, I like to be the sort of person I can live with.
Nag nag nag nag nag nag. Think of that way. You are NAGGING. and Nagging only works if it is annoying and constant.
I am, obviously, very naturalyl gifted in being an annoying argumentative fuck, as a Jewish American Woman, but I believe the rest of you can get on my level.

There's something about atheism that I've repeatedly tried and failed to put into words on several posts on this blog but I think I finally got it.
Atheists are the only religious minority who, even (or sometimes even *especially*) in ostensibly progressive spaces are not allowed to ever act like they're sure of their beliefs.

Once AGAIN: DEPICTION OF THE PROBLEMATIC THING IS NOT ENDORSEMENT OF THE PROBLEMATIC THING!
i feel like people forget that sometimes characters in fic are written like that because it's a reflection of real life.
people have sex without setting boundaries. people have unprotected sex without talking about their sexual histories or producing recent sti tests. people play with kink without discussing it ahead of time or establishing a safeword. they have anal without 'enough' prep or lube—they may even prefer it like that.
and none of this is really a fantasy. it's all pretty normal. you can feel that it's inappropriately normalised, and you'd probably be right! but it is normalised: one study found that 58% of female undergraduate students on the campus studied had been choked during sex. 20% of those students said that they'd never been asked if it was ok; another 30% said they'd only sometimes been asked if they consented. fully half! (non-paywalled journal article on choking during sex here, including these numbers.) despite a rise in stis of all sorts, condom use is declining. (pdf link to the full text of this study about declining condom use in the us; aidsmap article about an australian study with similar results.)
even when people do talk about things—sex or anything else—they communicate imperfectly. 'yeah, but don't go too far' is consenting and setting a boundary, and also relying that the person you're talking to has the same metric for 'too far' that you do. for some people, 'the trash needs to go out' is a neutral, factual observation; for others, it's a request that the person they're speaking to take out the trash.
even when people understand each other perfectly, people react unpredictably to things sometimes! we behave irrationally! people laugh uncontrollably at funerals, or get angry at the straw that broke their back rather than the enormous load they were already carrying. they get scared and lash out at people trying to help them. when hurt, most people do not instinctively reach for therapy-approved grounding exercises and 'i feel' statements.
pretty much any bad choice that characters could conceivably make is a choice that people make in real life, on purpose, all the time. people do things that can have catastrophic, life-changing effects because it felt like a good idea at the time, or they're leaning into the vibe, or they just didn't think about it all that much, or an infinite number of other reasons.
fiction isn't intended as a guide on the best, safest, and most responsible ways to live your life, and fanfic isn't any different. it's not a narrative flaw to let characters do things that are messy or harmful or downright stupid—it's a reflection of what people are actually like, and not something that authors should feel they have to apologise for.

“Oh young people are cheating with AI because they’re afraid to be wrong and the system is so bad!” No they’re just lazy. Not every decision anyone ever makes is because they’re a fucking victim in life. They’re asking AI to summarize something for them or for rando internet users to spoon feed them information because they don’t feel like doing it themselves and it doesn’t go deeper than that.
"Oh but they're not excited by every single class they ever take so they have no choice but to cheat!" Shut the fuck up. You're not going to be personally entertained by everything you do in life. That doesn't mean the class is bad or not worth it. Educators are not entertainers. Enough with the excuses for this learned helplessness, and tbh enough with the tone deafness of acting like the educational system in America is the worst in the world when it’s not, especially at the college level where people literally come from all over the world to attend our universities. Grow up! But oops I forgot, 90% of the discourse on this site boils down to using progressive language to justify acting like a bratty teenager and being vehemently incurious about the world

ok, the whole "eating the fruit of the treet of good and evil" section is a fucking riot.
so first of all, the snake didnt "decieve" eve at all, they just said flat out what is going to happen when she eats the fruit and that she is not going to die like god said they would. and eve is all like "well, that fruit does look pretty tasty". god in fact agrees with this later on, which is why specifically he expells adam and eve from the garden.
but like, the whole process by which god discovers it is also absolute slapstick. so adam and eve can tell right from wrong now, because they ate the fruit. so they can tell that being naked around each other is wrong and they put on clothes.
this is weird because this implies that it was always wrong for them to be naked, is just that they didnt realize this. but why did god allow it if it was wrong?
so then god is just walking around eden. which again, also hilarious, right. god is not this almighty omniscient allseeing prescence in the sky, he is just a guy hanging out at the garden with adam and eve. and he cant find adam and eve so he has to actually ask "where are you guys"
so adam and eve show up, all sheepish an god is like "why were you hiding" and adam is like "because we were ashamed of being naked in front of you" and god is like "how can you tell that you are naked? unless... you ate from the fruit that tells you what is right and what is wrong???"
which is an uprarious conversation right? "how can you tell that you are naked" what an incredible question for god to ask.
i dunno, it is genuenly adorable. it is silly and wacky like all other ancient myths from other ancient religions are.
